I went to 1609 with my husband, his co-worker and my infant daughter (9 weeks old). We wanted to grab a quick drink - I walked in pushing my stroller and asked if we could sit at the bar. We were shown seats and given drinks. My daughter quietly sat in her stroller for nearly an hour, I fed her in her stroller, but the problem arose when I picked up my daughter to burp her after her feeding. I was told by an employee that we could not have children at the bar as it was against the law. I understand that the law is the law; however, this situation could have been better handled! We should have had ‘the law’ explained to us before being seated at the bar. And I seriously can’t belive someone actually told a new monther that she couldn’t hold her infant daughter - the staff needs more training as anyone who has ever even seen an infant knows that at some point they will need to be picked up! My daughter can hardly hold her on head up yet - what trouble is she getting into at the bar? We were offered a table by the employee who scolded us but instead we decided to leave. We come to Bermuda several times a year and always make a stop at 1609 - sadly this is our last visit to 1609 and we will be telling friends and family to avoid as well. The view is nice, but not unique enough to put up with rudeness and...
Read moreThe location is one of the best in town. The views of the harbor are great The waitstaff was very friendly (which we found in most places on Bermuda), but inconsistent. Our initial impression of the staff was great but they then seem to disappear when we needed them. In the end, they were very friendly but it was hard to get their attention Apparently the restaurant just reopened and they whole operation seemed to be still trying to figure out how to deal with customers! In terms of food, the menu looks very interesting. However, the food was consistently under seasoned and somewhat without flavor. The empanadas were pretty good although on the small side. The skirt steak had absolutely no flavor and was over cooked, so we sent it back. The short rib was pretty good but also under seasoned. We went back a second time but only for cocktails We imagine that the sunset from one of the window tables would be potentially spectacular and maybe even worth the spotty food and service! We hope the restaurant gets better with more days being opened and...
Read moreWe arrived at 1609 Bar on a Sunday evening, only to find every table booked. Luckily, we discovered the Burger Bar tucked just below the main restaurant—and it turned out to be a hidden gem.
We grabbed seats around the fire pit, which set an inviting, laid-back vibe. Service was exceptional from the moment we sat down: attentive, friendly, and prompt without feeling rushed.
Both my colleague and I ordered the double-patty smash burgers, and they were outstanding—juicy, perfectly seared, and surprisingly substantial. Honestly, I was tempted to order a second despite how filling it was. The price is on the higher end, but the quality justifies every bite. The accompanying fries were crisp and well-seasoned, and our cocktails were mixed flawlessly.
If you can’t snag a table upstairs, the Burger Bar is a fantastic alternative—same great waterfront atmosphere, excellent food, and stellar service. We’ll be returning to the main restaurant tomorrow and will update with round two, but for now, the Burger Bar has already set a high bar. Highly...
