As someone who works in the industry I was shocked at the service and management at this property. The property is run in collaboration with Ipanema Beach Hostel and clearly they prioritise getting money out of their guests rather than customer service. They must be held accountable because all attempts to explain theft, booking errors overcharging and lack of service result in threats or being ignored.
Firstly, I had 2 items stolen from the reception area of the hostel, they throw the bags in the corner of the bar and have very limited security measures. The staff shrugged and didnt follow up after I reported my airpods stolen. The facilities are very poor, no kitchen, small lobby area full of backpacks because they have no storage system, rooms small and narrow with Air Con only at night.
The reception staff refer to the management (Mellissa was the individual we had to deal with) who are completely disinterested in any problems that occur once they have your money. There was a mistake during booking where the hostel took my payment beyond what was agreed and I was ensured by Juliana on reception that the management would look into it. Refunds were refused! Even though the hostel took more money than was agreed. I am forced to leave the property early due to lack of security and coordination from .
Upon checking out, I witnessed Melisa threatening one of the other guests who was requesting a refund, she stated she is a lawyer and that the police would be called it further payment was not made. Overall a very unpleasant thing to witness as the guest was distressed and the management just say 'no refunds, make payment or else'
Overall I felt like I was ripped off and given zero support once the money was paid. The customer service is a front and behind it is a business that wants to take as much money as possible without any care. There are no point in keeping the money as they could have easily re-booked the room due to peak season, but they refused.

Read moreEDIT: I'm getting threats from a brazilian Number since my stay in there and the argument with Matheus. After paying the fine and even checking-out earlier, they guy kept threathing me on "finding" using my ID and information provided to the hostel during check-in.
I'llbe taking leagl actions against this company and the way they are allowing their staff to use your private information to bully guests.
A good experience that turned into a nightmare with threats included by one of its employees.
We were fined for breaking the 'rule' that one person from one dorm stepped into another. And the night shift staff (Matheus) did not react well when I told him I would take legal action and contact management, and their PMS providers because i know from firsthand that adding deliberate fines is not legal. Much more so when really illegal things happen at boat parties promoted in the hostel. This enraged the staff member to the point of threatening to use my personal information taken by the hostel to report me to the police for a crime no one committed. He even threatened to 'find me' wherever I was if I stayed in Rio and even to follow me to the airport with the police.
The experience was completely ruined by a staff member with tremendous ego and power tripping, to the point of lying about the security cameras and their alleged ability to record audio, something that is also illegal since I was never notified at check-in that my conversations were being recorded. I feel that the hostel has too much power over guests by storing sensitive personal information that their employees can then use to threaten.
In the end, the fine was paid, but the threats continued, so I had to leave in the middle of the night because this person decided to make it personal and attack my physical integrity by threatening to 'find...

This is one of the worst hostels I’ve ever stayed, probably the worst.
The whole hostel is so dirty, everything, the dorms, the bathrooms, the floor. When you see the way they “clean” it makes the whole sense, it takes less than five minutes to fake they clean the rooms, taking a shower there is just disgusting.
The space is so reduced everywhere. I saw a review about this and I thought it was not going to be a big deal, but believe, is f annoying and uncomfortable, I am not tall, and I did not fit on my bed, getting my stuff from the locker was so…
There is only one restroom at the dorm that’s it!!! If there is somebody else there good luck, you have nothing else, sorry you do, there is ONE toilet at the bar for the bar and the whole building.
If you go for the free caipirinha, that’s a 1 dollar beverage forget about that, go get a comfortable and clean place with a better service and for a lower price.
The dude that “helped” me with the check in was so annoyed by me arriving to the hostel that I could not forget about him, I asked for his name to write about him because I think that kind of people should not be working with people, his attitude was so bad, he just wanted to get rid of me and keep on chilling.
