Sol Ipanema Hotel — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

This was our first trip to Rio and we could not have been more pleased with this hotel. I work in the travel industry and have pretty high standards when it comes to properties around the globe. I could not have been more impressed with the Sol Ipanema.

From early check in (no addtl cost due to a room was available if we wished to take it, which we did), to the staff, restaurant, pool, location, you name it. I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. The location in Ipanema IS where you want to be. Just steps from amazing restaurants and shopping in the Ipanema area. We walked every day all over Ipanema and to Leblon.

Forget Copacabana, stay in Ipanema. The hotel itself is bright and clean. Our room was extremely spacious and comfortable for two adults. Mini bar prices were reasonable and appreciated. The shower had hot water, which is always a plus for wayward North Americans, even if the temp outside is 90 degrees. I say this because our hotel in Copacabana did not have hot water. The AC in the room worked perfectly. Some days we even had to turn it down or off as we got too cold!

We had an ocean view room (#203) and could not have been more pleased. Noise from outside was very minimal. The bed was extremely comfortable. We could have watched the sunsets from our room every night if we liked but we often choose the roof top pool area for those. I guess we arrived the day after the pool had just reopened. We were so fortunate. That pool area is top notch, from the views, to the lounge chairs , to the service. The pool itself is smaller and waist deep but certainly does the job for cooling off and just enjoying the views of Ipanema and Leblon. We spent a lot of time at the rooftop pool area.

We dined at the hotel restaurant for dinner once and would have done so other nights if there had not been such an abundant selection of eateries within blocks of the hotel. The ocean front view from the restaurant cannot be beat. Our meals were fantastic and we highly recommend you do at least one night at the hotel restaurant for dinner. Included breakfast was AMAZING and one of the best I have had at any hotel. Large selection of pastries, yogurt, eggs, meats, cheeses, juices, fruits, cereal, I could go on and on. Due to the restaurant being on the first floor and our room on the 2nd, it made it very easy to take the stairs, which we did quite often. Another benefit of booking on the 2nd floor; no waiting for elevators plus you are getting some exercise.

We did not want to leave this hotel. If they had had availability while we were there for our entire stay(we checked out 29DEC and went to Copacabana for our last 5 nights), we would have certainly continued our stay. We were in Rio for New Years Eve so you must book early (like 8-9 months early) and in a block of 4-5 nights if you wish to stay during this time frame.

We cannot wait to return to Ipanema and this will be the only place we will stay. And I cannot stress this enough; pay a little extra and book the ocean front rooms. You will not be disappointed. And the cost is minimal compared to other properties around the world with ocean...

100% satisfied with everything about this hotel. If we go back to Rio, this is where we will stay. Easy check in and front desk was always helpful if we had questions. We landed at 9am, and were lucky that our room was available. Room was really nice and bed was very comfortable. Great shower with a rain shower head and lots of water pressure. We had a room facing the ocean and our view was amazing. The food at the breakfast buffet was delicious and had so many options. Loved all the fruit! The beach was right across the street and it was easy to grab chairs and towels to take with us. It was a little annoying how often people tried to sell us stuff, but we loved that someone brought us beers and offered other drinks right to our chairs. Beers were only $2 each (if you were paying in USD) pretty much everywhere on the beach and they were always ice cold. Amazing view from the roof top and loved that there was a bar up there. Make sure to peek around the back to see Christ the Redeemer. Location is perfect. Very close to the metro although Uber is incredibly cheap (in USD), quick and reliable. Ipanema is a little quieter than Copacabana and we are really glad we stayed there. Great running/bike path right out front and on Sundays they close half the street. In full disclosure, I did see a few tiny ants/bugs on the walls in the room but it's a hot/humid climate near the beach and a forest and I've lived in similar climates enough to know that it's tough to keep all of them out. It didn't bother us. The other thing is that the elevators are slow. We were on the 2nd floor and found the stairs and used those a lot. But overall we were so happy with our stay and I hope we have the chance to come...

We had a great stay here. We stayed 5 nights during our stay in Rio. We chose Sol Ipanema because we wanted to be in Ipanema, and the closest to the beach as possible, and this was it! The location is perfect. The hotel is across the street from the beach, right in front of Posto 9, which is a great part of Ipanema. The hotel provides umbrellas, towels, and beach chairs for guest use every day, you just check them out and walk them over and bring them back. The hotel was nice, clean, inviting. The staff was welcoming and attentive. The front desk staff spoke Portuguese and English, I also believe they spoke Spanish. The breakfast was nice. We are both vegan and we were able to eat toast and fruit every morning which was fine for us. Our room was actually large and really comfortable. The bed was nice, the bathroom was a bit small and tight, but you are in the middle of one of the largest cities in the world in Rio!, so I didn't expect spacious rooms here :) The air conditioning worked really well (we went in the middle of the summer). The roof deck is tiny, and we didn't use the pool (it was super small), but we did sit up there one evening for a little bit. We felt safe, they had staff 24/hours a day, and it is so walkable. There were several restaurants (many, many vegan ones if that matters to you!) within walking distance, stores (Leblon is about a 15 minute walk away with nice shops), and a supermarket about 3 blocks away.
