First off, rooms are quite small. Second, the restrooms have a sound system loud enough to wake neighbouring rooms up. First smart guy up, everybody's up. Nice touch, you nailed it with this option. First morning started like a normal work day in our short vacation. Thank God they killed the system from reception, after we complained. But the sounds from that room, continued to annoy us with a chorus and a flanger effect, made with the help of a metallic rezonator inside the walls. Pure analog blast. I swear to God it was fascinating and annoying at the same time. We wanted to try the spa as we arrived, being tired from the road, but we were told that it was opened only until 8 PM, or something. But the next day, we asked again for the spa, this time, they let us in. What a disappointment! That thing was made only for pictures. None of the saunas were working. The dry one had a bust heater, the wet one had a musty ceiling, with an awful mold smell. Apparently, they have not thought that a wet sauna would need ceramic tiles on the ceiling. Even the thermometer was broken, stuck on high, operating temperatures :). Moving on, the shower flooded the whole spa when used due to clogged drain pipes. The round weird bed seemed old and dirty. The water in the jacuzzi made some weird soap bubbles when turned on and the water in the big pool was green, even though the tiles were blue. I'm not judging, I'm just laying things down, exactly how they were found. Front desk didn't seem to manage English well, I wasn't able to get basic information, like until what hour do they serve breakfast. Another guest had to intervene to clarify things and was visibly disappointed herself about this. Breakfast was ok, meaning I had nothing to be upset with, I ate boiled eggs, some mediocre cheese and slices of tomato. The fried eggs looked overdone and oily so I stuck to boiled ones. The ham, salami and sausages were of lower quality then the cheese, definitely not recommended. And when things ran out, the super slow lady took her time to fill things in "piece by piece", while we stood in line with the plates, behind her. Thank God the olives didn't run out. It was a funny sitcom like experience, while standing up :)). The good news, rooms were clean, the soap was of good quality, hot water and air conditioning ran as they should. Location was also great, mostly quite area, with some exceptions. To conclude, if you're looking for a clean place to crash and nothing else, maybe room size and noises don't bother you much and the price seems ok, then it's a thumbs up. Otherwise, if you're looking for more,...
Read moreThe first impression was positive, but not for a long. The hotel is in a good location, the most important attraction of the VT, fortress Carevec, and can be reached on foot in just two minutes. The interior of the hotel is very beautiful and it is immediately obvious that the hotel has been relatively recently renovated. There are not many rooms and there is a SPA on each floor. At the reception, the employees know English, so you can easily communicate if you are a foreigner. However, you will soon realize what to all the disadvantages in this hotel. You do not have a reserved parking space, so if you come by car, you should be lucky to find a parking space or to circle the surrounding very narrow streets until you find one. The hotel does not have room service (you only have breakfast), but they have nicely compensated for that with good cooperation with the surrounding restaurants that deliver food to the hotel. You do not have utensils but the friendly staff will give you cutlery from the restaurant so you can normally eat the food ordered from the restaurant. Hygiene, as in most facilities in Bulgaria, is not at an due level. Huge dust in the carpets, limescale on the floors of the shower, flies in the ceiling lighting. What's worse, the fridge in the mini bar hasn't been cleaned since God knows when, and when we opened it, it was full of stale water and unpleasant odors. SPA seems decent, but there is also a basic problem in maintenance because there is a lot of corrosion on metal elements and mold on furniture. It is quite suffocating and it feels like too much chlorine is being put into the water. There is air conditioning in the room which, of course, does not work. That is, it is set to heating all the time and you cannot cool down. The roof window, although it has the option of remote opening, does not work. All in all, I wouldn’t go back to this...
Read moreWe stayed two nights. We found our room with crumpled bed sheets as soon as we got in after checking-in and of doubtful cleanliness. Initially thought it was just the policy of the hotel not to iron the bed sheets. Next day returning at the hotel in the afternoon we found our room uncleaned, with no towels, no toilet paper etc, despite the fact that the receptionist in the morning promised us to ask the housekeeping to change all bed sheets. After seeing this we were even more sure that the previous night we slept in bed sheets that hadn’t been changed from previous guests and that is why they were crumpled. We reported it to the same receptionist again and was totally apathetic that our room was not cleaned and with no towels. When I asked the cleaning policy of the establishment she told us that they clean every 2-3 days!!! (This is a boutique hotel, not apartments!) She said to offer a discount for our stay and that she didn’t have any housekeeping in the afternoon to clean the room. I insisted that we didn’t want the discount, we wanted a clean room. Afterwards, she called two ladies who came to change the bed sheets and make the room. No supervision, nobody responsible from the hotel came to check afterwards or even to follow up the situation. We were outside our room waiting for the change of the bed sheets and guess what! The new sheets were placed on the floor carpet while the pillows were being changed by placing them also on the floor. Judge for yourself if this is a boutique hotel. Only next day before checking out we had been asked if our room was finally cleaned and told us that the staff of housekeeping were new at the hotel with not much experience.Even so, these poor ladies of the housekeeping should be trained and supervised by the management. It’s not their fault. This is a hotel...
