This place is fantastic...It was so good and i was so impressed that i extended my stay from 3 nights to 11 nights (and it is pet friendly without any additional charges). I would've stayed longer if my visa wasn't about to expire. Even though it's name suggests it is a hostel, it's more like a budget resort which has private rooms with the inclusion of hostel dorms. I think many people may overlook this property believing it's just a hostel....it so much more. I stayed in one of their private rooms, which for the price, was really good, functional, clean and quite comfortable, and included a private bathroom. My room was air-conditioned (worked well) and contained a comfortable bed (medium firmness) and good enough that I didn't have to use my mattress topper. The room wasn't overly spacious, but appropriate enough for my needs. It was only modestly furnished (2× small bedside tables with 2x small stools and a luggage/clothes rack) but did include a small refrigerator (worked well) and an electronic safe, along with a flatscreen TV (channel selection was poor so I used my laptop to stream) Netflix). My bathroom was very clean and modern, containing a separate shower cubicle (with an excellent supply of hot water via an instant, electric water heater), toilet, basin and standard, free complimentary items. WiFi was also (mostly) pretty good throughout the entire property...but not faultless- though good enough to watch Netflix. Sometimes the signal dropped out or was weak but most of the time it was sufficient. Surprisingly enough, for a property with hostel dorms, it was acceptably quiet. Another excellent positive of the property is their amazing staff. They are all very friendly, polite, attentive and helpful - a true asset to the place. One kind staff member even helped fix my leaking fuel line on the day of my departure and they were all so kind and friendly towards my pet dog (Fat Chicken / Skittles loved it there). The hotel/hostel boasts a large, very clean and well maintained pool with plenty of sun lounges and tables with umbrellas (even providing showering/change cubicles as well as toilets). There's a free use pool table, tennis table and football table for guests enjoyment (among other games) next to their open style bar/restaurant area. The bar is well stocked with counter seating, a TV playing sports, and drinks are reasonably priced. The adjacent restaurant has lots of table settings (with many ceiling fans), a couple of poolside booths and enough choices on their menu to appease most people (Khmer, Western, Pasta, Pizza, Snacks). The food served here is really nice and moderately priced, and arrives quite quickly...I never had one complaint. The only one slight inconvenience is that everything must be paid for when you order (they accept credit cards without a surcharge or cash). At their reception area they sell a few snack items, some drinks, and postcards, and provide several different tour services (from private to group tours) as well as motorbike rental. Paying for your room and any tour services are transacted upfront, but like the bar/restaurant you can pay in cash or with a credit card (no surcharge). The only minor thing to note is that you must pay a USD5 (20,000 riel) deposit for your room's keycard, which is returned upon checkout (of course, providing you haven't lost or damaged it). Lastly, the only minor negative thing I was affected by is that there is very limited covered parking for motorbikes put the front. However there is plenty of non-covered parking available for both motorcycles and cars. Close by is an ABA ATM (next door), Lucky & Fair Price supermarkets, several street food vendors, a Bingxue Icecream shop, and an air-conditioned Cafe. The riverside area is easily within walking distance which is awash with restaurants, bars, convenience shops, massage parlours and cafes. Overall....Very highly recommended accommodation provider which I will definitely return back...
Read moreVery bad hostel - do not recommend. We were at Onederz in Siem Reap, which was great, and decided to also go to Onederz in Kampot. However, there are multiple issues both with the hostel and services arranged by them. For one, most clientele appears to be local families using the pool and lone middle aged men. The staff is unfriendly and accusatory (implying we stole a towel, whereas we had actually received one to few). There are power outages (the hostel does not have a generator) and the WiFi frequently doesn’t work. Our room was not cleaned once in the days.
Then there are the trips. For the day tour to the salt fields and pepper plantation offered by the hostel, we were picked up in a dingy van. The airconditioning leaked water on us, and when it started to rain other parts of the van also started to leak on us. We also booked the trip from Kampot to Koh Rong through the hostel, for $70. It was the strangest transport we have ever experienced. The van was again old (but at least dry), and had - apart from us - just four others who seemed to be relatives of the driver. We kept stopping to buy huge amounts of rice and other supplies (???), and because one of the drivers relatives was apparently sick with stomach flu. We then got to the ferry just in time. Throughout the four hour drive (which should be only 2.5 hours), the relatives continuously talked and called very loudly. We later found that the company the hostel booked through had very bad reviews. If we had known all this, we would not have booked through the hostel - and certainly not at this price.
Do not stay here and - if you must - do not book any activities...
Read moreI went to Onederz because I had heard they had a nice pool and the food was good. Nothing could be further from the truth. Since I already had a place to stay I thought it would be a great idea to go there for a swim and have some breakfast. ||I was told it was $5 to swim, which I thought was a little high considering it was a backpacker venue.||||After arriving I ordered my breakfast, (bacon+eggs) $3:50, which I thought was average, and an ice Cafe, $1:75, which is not average, but acceptable. There were only a few sunbeds, and half of them were missing umbrellas, or broken. ||||There was no shade around the pool so I went in for a swim, and after a lengthy wait my breakfast arrived, but completely cold. ||I had to say something, and made it clear I wasn't going to eat cold eggs and bacon. So I waited another length of time, finally got my breakfast and ate. ||As I was going to leave I went to pay, and was told the price now was $8 for the pool, or $50 per month. Since my bill was much less than $8, (it was $5:25) I explained that I heard it was $5, to which they replied, "yes, but we changed it." No notice, no information posted anywhere. I explained I didn't know and they told if I come back it's $8.||||Not a great experience, the pool is filled with kids and backpackers who stay there. I was told by some backpackers who stay there that a single Aircon room is $20 up, and the dorms are $7 up. All in all a greedy place with...
