When I arrived in Cambodia Airport yesterday, a taxi driver was persistent in helping me get to my destination. Battambang was like 5 hours from the airport via taxi and 8-9 hours via bus or so the taxi driver said. Anyway, I was with two French women I believe coz they were not speaking English inside the taxi and I'm just guessing to be honest as I've heard Cambodia was colonized by France but you may correct me on that. To cut the story short, I never got to my destination and the taxi driver brought to this hotel. At first, I though it's fine as I just needed a place to go before I travel to Battambang (sp) on the next day. I had the room for myself as I went to Cambodia all by myself, paid 25 dollars for an overnight stay. The room was spacious, with a cable TV, an AC, and a free wifi. It was clean and has the things you need, I'd say it is the best place for couples but for a solo visitors like me, it's kinda big. Luckily, I never experienced the stealing thing that most of you guys put here but I don't wanna gamble. I transferred today to a different hotel or inn and I am happy with it. It is also true, the front desk could not speak English that well. I already spoke slowly, changed my accent and pronounce them word for word and even did sign language and scenario based English and I was still having a hard time explaining or asking for things. However, it's cool with me as Cambodian people are really good people. They're well mannered and polite. The place is clean and...
Read moreThey basically stole USD $300 from me. I paid $300 to one of the receptionists. When I checked out, the same receptionist denied that I had paid her. I don't think she could have forgotten, so basically she and possibly additional staff took the money for themselves and didn't record it.||||As the disagreement spanned out for the next two or three hours, I was speaking on the phone to the owner of the hotel, basically they were straight up denying that there was even a possibility that their staff could ever do anything wrong, so very bad customer service.||||Also it's a bad location. A much better location is closer to the river where there are restaurants and minimarts to buy everyday items - like food and drink.||||They don't speak enough English to properly communicate with foreigners. You'll want to show them pictures of what you need.||||They leave the hallway windows open at night without screens, so there are tons of bugs. The bugs get into the room, crawl around on the walls and ground. Got weird bugs. Most hotels might have some ants, but this one has the flying bugs that are attracted to the light.||||It should be the hotel's responsibility to hire staff that don't steal from their guests. This hotel has failed to do that.||||Basically, they stole 300 dollars from me. They are liars and thieves and they don't deserve...
Read moreThey stole USD $300 from me. I paid one of the receptionists $300, she didn't properly write down the receipt. When I checked out, she and the 10 other people working in the hotel all grouped around and acted like I had never paid. I don't know how she could have forgotten, so basically she and possibly other hotel staff are lying.
Ultimately, it's the responsibility of the hotel to hire people who can record each transaction properly and who won't steal from guests. And this hotel hasn't done that.
They also don't speak English, except for maybe numbers.
The water pressure goes up and down.
There are bugs everywhere because they leave the hallway windows open without screens at night. Bugs all over the room.
Their toilets don't always flush properly.
The location is very bad. Somewhere in the old market area and/or by the river is a much better area. Closer to the river they have more minimarts and restaurants, etc. It's nearly impossible to see from the street. There are always cars and tuk tuks parked in front so it's hard to actually get access to the door, especially if you have a big bag or something.
But the bottom line is: for such a touristy place like Phnom Penh, with lots of better choices, this hotel is a horrible choice mainly because of the potential that the staff will steal...
