I will disclose that my review has been affected by my initial expectations. All in, I paid $340 for one night at Blackstone for a room with two queen sized beds. That was about $100 more than what I could have paid at other hotels in Canmore, but I was drawn to their advertising of having updated, "boutique" rooms and liked that they had a pool. I liked that they have free underground parking, free WiFi, a pool with hot tubs, and they had free iced tea and lemon water at the front desk. I also found the front desk staff to be very friendly and helpful.
However, this hotel is not as up-to-date or extravagant as I thought it would be. I actually think it would be fair to say that they updated everything sometime in the last 10 years. There were some nice finishes in the lobby and the bathrooms, but everything else was like a standard hotel. The parking level was hideous and in need of paint and TLC which was also true for the elevator itself. We had a room on the main floor which was a very narrow room with standard, old, cheap furniture and lamps, a cheap 42" LG TV, a fridge, a thermostat, a coffee station, and a walk-in shower with a glass door. This was a room with the ability of being opened to an adjoining room by way of a locked door. Our window opened to a sort of rock garden mound(?) with some vegetation; it wasn't anything special to look at, but was nicely kept. We had no views.
I really expected more at this price point. I anticipated a room with nice furniture that wasn't damaged or old, a suite that was larger (possibly with a view - they did advertise on that point!), and generally something that had a style that was more refined than the standard Best Western. I will also add that one of the bed covers had a funky stain on it (I don't even want to know what it was!) and they could have at least thrown in a complimentary bottle of water in the fridge. There isn't a restaurant on site, so don't expect any room service; we walked to Macs which was 15 minutes from the hotel when we got hungry and wanted a snack. I will say that the pool area was beautiful and I enjoyed the hot tubs; this area would be improved by offering changing rooms so that you don't have to walk down the halls in your swimming apparel. Overall, I think this place is meant for ski bums who don't look so much at the facilities since their sights are on their day-to-day activities. Unfortunately, I had different criteria for paying that much money to rent a room at the very end of the...
Read moreWe had all of our guests for our wedding staying at the Blackstone Mountain Lodge. The stay was excellent for all of our guests, they enjoyed the pool and all the other amenities.
Melissa is the event coordinator at the lodge. We hosted a welcome party which was catered by the Iron Goat. Melissa did an amazing Job, and if this review was strictly on her it would be 10 stars. Melissa always responded very quickly, catering to our needs and changing dates. She ensured that all of our guest received the welcome bags that we had made for each one of our guests. I can’t say enough good things about her. Her communication, positivity, and her overall work speaks for itself. The Blackstone is lucky to have her.
The reason that we cannot give five stars for this review is because of a couple major factors. When we started planning our wedding we had did not have a puppy. We had several guest staying at the hotel, and the hotel was still unable to accommodate dogs. While our guests we’re staying there, there was a dog clearly staying at the hotel so we were very surprised as we had to scramble to make last-minute accommodations for ourselves. This dog was very poorly behaved so clearly not a service animal.
Blackstone could certainly use more mobility friendly rooms. There are no accommodations from my knowledge that can accommodate those with mobility issues. We had to make alternative arrangements for one of our guests who has heavy mobility issues and required an accessible room.
Lastly, I would say that the Blackstone could benefit by having food and beverage options at the hotel. While they are suites and able to make their own food, having options available in the hotel would be very beneficial.
We chose the Blackstone because we personally have stayed there several times. The location in relation to the Cornerstone theatre was fantastic, everything in Canmore is a very short walk, and there are dining options down the street. The staff was fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, and the amenities...
Read moreWe had a three night stay mid week (Mon -Thurs). My sister joined us and had her own suite on the same floor.
Emma was manning the desk on our arrival and she got us checked in quickly, efficiently and with a most gracious and friendly demeanour.
Blackstone is well situated within Canmore and we were able to walk to every where we needed to go.
Both of our suites (415 & 423) were well equipped for our stay and there were sufficient flatware, glasses and cutlery to do us. 423 faced south and 415 faced North, so we each had pretty nice mountain views.
There was a daily refresh service, where the garbages were emptied, towels and the coffee and filters restocked. On our first morning our coffee and filters weren't done and Emma at the front desk was able to sort this out quickly.
There is controlled access underground parking for every size of of vehicles, less RV's and jacked up pickups. They even had a self serve vehicle wash bay, Which after driving down from Edmonton and then doing a trip into the Banff townsite was highly appreciated.
Their staff was able to lend me a hand when I required some assistance with an issue we had with a tire. Thanks a lot to their maintenance staff.
There is a outdoor heated pool and a couple of hot tubs. Which to access you need a code to open the gate. We found that the timers for the hot tub jets didn't really function all that well. When we went to depart, there is a green button to the right of the gate that needs to be pushed to open the gate.
There is a small fitness centre on the main floor right beside the vending machines and ice area. The fitness is open from 6 am until 10 pm. And if the door is closed at 6:10 am and your swipe card doesn't open it. Just open the door as it is on a timer. 🤔
I one complaint, has to do with the outside lighting that is on the eves. I found that our bedroom drapes didn't cover the entire length of the sliding door. And as such those outside lights illumination would seep in along the ends...
