Decent go-to Ramen place. They have sushi and other Japanese cuisine too, but we came for the ramen. If you've had a really knockout ramen elsewhere, don't expect miracles here. TL;DR: I saw all the good reviews on Google and got hopeful, only to find that the flavour of everything was a bit lackluster. But! If you're looking for a quick bit of hot comfort food after a long day, it's not bad here.
Service: Staff were prompt, polite and excellent. Absolutely five stars on that point.
Food: I had the Soy Tonkotsu ramen. I agree with another reviewer: the broth was unfortunately quite weak, the noodles felt a bit overcooked and all-in-all the dish was lacking in flavour. Just a bit one-note, sorry! I had the Agedashi tofu as appetizer and once again, found it kind of low on flavour. Tofu was cooked perfectly though. Takoyaki was great though, so no notes on that one.
Atmosphere: Well-lit, clean, family-friendly and as kawaii as a Studio Ghibli animation, but it was disappointing to see the walls and menu adorned with AI slop rather than something made by a human. Our table pounced on the chance to point out all the AI tells on the menu (chopsticks fusing together... one cat looks like it's smoking the chopsticks for some reason? See image). There are plenty of talented designers and artists in Alberta, let alone Canmore, who would have leapt at the chance to contribute art in this style to a new business so it's kind of a shame to see they went in a less authentic direction. Maybe that's an opportunity for Dingsway laying in wait...
Last nitpicky note: the ramen spoons were gigantic! It felt like I was eating with a ladle. Maybe I'm just a creature of habit, but the other ramen places I've been to offered regular sized spoons and those were easier to eat with.
Positive notes worth mentioning: I was full by the end. Nothing tasted outright bad. They were able to cater to my peanut allergy. Everyone...
Read moreThe vibe of the restaurant is great and the servers are attentive. We were pretty disappointed in the taste of the food. Between two of us we got the spicy tantan ramen, chicken katsu with curry and a salmon avocado roll. The ramen came out first and on the first sip, the broth was disappointing. It just tasted like a spicy soup and the noodles were not like regular ramen noodles. The portion was so small, and after almost finishing it through we realized the ground pork was missing. I asked the server and she apologized and brought out a small bowl of it on the side. We ended up eating it with with the sushi which was just okay. The avocado was not ripe and slightly hard and bitter. The chicken katsu was the most disappointing. It’s hard to get curry wrong but this tasted watered down. The chicken quality also had a texture that felt like it was frozen chicken. Overall, was excited to try it due to the high reviews and cute interior. But the food did not hit. Would not...
Read moreThis is an awesome edition to the Canmore options for eating out or takeaway.
I had heard about this place when it opened but took us a few weeks to visit.
Was not disappointed! The place has got a super fun vibe, with Manga comics and Japanese inspired artwork on the walls. Staff were super friendly and apologetic about wait times, even though we didn't think we waited long.
The sushi is OK. I'd you're a die hard sushi fan, it doesn't quite live up to some of the best I've had (Yama Goya in Fernie for example) but is probably the best in Canmore. The noodle dishes are awesome though! Really tasty Ramen! I personally prefer it to Ramen Arashi, and their stir frys and other bowls are awesome too! My only gripes, I hate their plastic cups! Haha! And it'd be nice to have fountain drinks and a beer or two on tap. Drinks were all canned when...
