Best Western Plus in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta.
The room was cold( it was about -16°C, which is not cold for this part of the world, I have stayed in lots of BestWestern ‘s (and other hotels ) that were able to keep the heat up and supply hot tap water ) and the one window heater would work great, but the other one wouldn’t produce any heat at all. So you were cooking in bedroom, but everywhere else in the living room, kitchenette and bathroom was ice cold , a person was freezing. There was no hot water when we checked in, no hot water when we got back to the hotel later on, and in the middle of the night to wash your hands, there was no hot water, no matter how long you let it run. Yes it was warm, but it was not hot enough to have a shower for either of us.(from what I could tell from the parking lot hotel did not have very many customers, the boiler normally would keep up to a full hotel anyways, so they can’t use that as an excuse,) The toilet bowl down below had poop skid marks. The two televisions could never pull up any reception kept saying there was network problems that afternoon, that evening, and the next morning. This is not how BestWestern hotels are normally. I have stayed in them extensively and have achieved a higher reward status with ton reward/points….When I told the young lady at the front desk about the water was she handed me a bag with two waters in it and two cookies. WHAT! I was talking about the hot water problem. She must’ve figured or was taught that it will pacify people.
The coffee in the morning was terrible. We did not stay to eat as my wife was disgusted and just wanted to check out ofthe hotel.
The hotel is poorly maintained you can see grime along the baseboards. I found someone’s medication PILLon the floor behind the doorstop…
What if we had had one of our grandchildren with us and they put that in their mouth? I kept the pill, did not bother, even trying to discuss it with the front desk as you could tell, she was just placed there and had no people dealing skills.
By the way, when I was at shoppers drug Mart later on that morning. I asked the pharmacist what this pill was, he took the blue pill and said it was OxyContin. I asked if he would dispose of it. He said yes.. For the owner of BW the room was booked with under partners name...using my partners points, that is why you don't see a room...

Read moreI've had good experiences with Best Western, but this one was sadly not one of them. The location is convenient - grocery store, gas station, and restaurants nearby. The parking lot is spacious, but not well lit in the evening. The breakfast was okay ... but some of the food was a bit sketchy (color was off) and there was a staff member that kept yelling, very loudly, a countdown clock to when breakfast was over & they wouldn't be restocking things - this started an hour before breakfast was ending, which seemed like over kill. The coffee machine was good - several different choices for morning brew. Some things that particularly sucked: the pool deck was dirty, and the hot tub was colder than the pool water. The sauna seemed to be in working order. You normally would need a key card to access the pool area, but it wasn't working. We let the front desk know, and they responded with, "Oh yeah, it hasn't worked in forever. Just YANK on the door really hard, and you can get in." That seems super safe & secure, lol. Our room smelled like smoke. the front desk didn't seem to care and insisted they didn't have another room for us to change to. As one of us was allergic, this made for an uncomfortable couple of nights. The beds were hard, not comfy. The room had a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc - the standard accommodations. The TV didn't work at first, and the front desk said that no one could come look at it until the morning. The next day, there was still no one to come look at it ... we ended up buying a cord from the grocery store to hook up the TV correctly. The front desk said the TVs were just recently replaced/upgraded, and the installation was not complete. That was a major bummer and annoyance. I consider myself a patient person (go with the flow) and a fair reviewer, so it's not easy to get a 1-star review from me. This hotel put a damper on our weekend, and I wouldn't...
