I tried to book a reservation at the Prestige in Golden BC. I called the Prestige to inquire on prices and/or cancellation policies, as this being a long trip, I might not be able to make it. The fellow told me that there was one room left and it was $160 plus taxes, and that I could not cancel if I reserved a room. So I agreed that it would be fine. I gave my credit information so he could start the process, then he told me that the total cost would be $240. I asked how $160 became $240. He told me that the extra cost were total additional taxes (and that did not include a deposit). I asked why the taxes were 50% and that I have never heard of this before. He named 4 or 5 different taxes ; not fees; TAXES. So I told him that it was too much money; I said "I don't want to reserve a room there". He asked me why. I said "to much tax"; "I've never heard of so much tax on a hotel or motel". Then he said he would find me another hotel. I said "no thank you, please disregard, I will look after finding a room myself". He began to accuse me of getting angry. I told him that I wasn't angry, I just want to cancel and find a different place to stay. Then he told me that I can't cancel, so I ended up having to cancel my credit card so that he couldn't charge me for something that seemed suspiciously weird and more expensive than I agreed to pay. This person became very obnoxious just because I did not want to stay at their hotel due to the taxes. I didn't book the room yet; I only gave my credit card number based on the original quote, plus tax. I had no idea that the Prestige was going to charge me 50% tax, so I said "forget it". He refused to let that happen. Be very careful with the prestige in Golden; I sense that there might be something illegal going on. I really don't think it is legal to charge taxes beyond what the governments allow. IT WAS NOT FEES; IT WAS ABOUT 5 DIFFERENT TAXES.
The reply below is a complete fabrication and convenient way to ignore ownership of criminal activity. I was not booking with a 3rd party agent; I was booking with the the personel at the Prestige Hotel in Golden who are under direction of the management in Golden BC. The number that I was told to contact for a remedy, is the same number that I called to try booking a room in the first place; and it is a Golden BC prefix number. I took the time to read through the reviews after my experience. The Prestige in Golden has some terrible accounts of problems; including monetary problems. I will be reporting this transaction to the CRA for their review. I will not consider staying at a Prestige Hotel again until this has been assessed and rectified, and I am in receipt of such...
Read moreWe booked 2 nights with Aeroplan points which worked out to 77,500 points for 2 nights. The first night after we woke up and turned on the green light for housekeeping to do up our rooms. As we were leaving our room the housekeepers were right outside our door. We get back to our room at 4pm and our rooms weren’t cleaned. Including the big sticky mess on the linoleum. Not sure what it was but we thought we wouldn’t complain because it would be cleaned the next morning. Called down to the front desk to complain and were told they were very sorry but if you are staying 2 nights then your rooms aren’t cleaned. What did we pay $279/night for??? A bed???? We were told that when checking in they told us that our rooms aren’t cleaned if staying for multiple nights because they are short staffed. We were NOT told that at all!!! No mention of being short staffed. Not our fault. We weren’t given a discount when we checked in because they were short staffed. We were charged full price. Just my thoughts…but if you don’t have the staff to clean the rooms perhaps you should only book the amount of rooms you can clean. We were told that someone was coming up to clean our room but instead the manager came up with towels and shampoo and 1 coffee packet ( there were 2 people staying in the room) and apologized but also told us she could rent out the rooms for $350/night. In our eyes this place is worth a max. $150/night. Manager did finally offer to reimburse 500 points back to our Aeroplan travel points which works out to approximately $12.50/night. Pool needs to be cleaned and the only extras are being attached to a liquor store and Rickys restaurant. They both were great. Would NOT recommend The...
Read moreWe did not have a good stay with Prestige. Our frustration began on our arrival when we were told we did not have a booking. Upon detailed searching by customer service at the front desk, it was discovered the hotel had our reservation for the same date in July and not June.
Our travel voucher prepared by our travel consultant proved we had been booked on the date requested in June, and definitely not July as disclosed by prestige.
To her credit, Joanne who assisted us was able to find a room for us, even though they had indicated the hotel was fully booked. This was particularly frustrating for us as we had limited time available to take advantage of local activities etc
Compared to other accommodation we have had over the duration of our overseas trip, we found the response to our room service requests very uncommitted.
We found there were no wine glasses in the room. We made a simple request to have two delivered to our room but this didn’t happen. We had to make a follow up visit to the front counter to get hold of a couple of glasses.
Bathroom facilities in our room was very poor. Water pressure in our shower was terrible, making it frustrating to have a decent shower.
Would not recommend staying at this accommodation outlet
