I can honestly say I've never encountered a more accommodating hotel staff in my life. From the bellmen to the front desk to the concierge to housekeeping to the associated restaurants, everyone was incredibly kind and helpful. The rooms were comfortable, the climate control fantastic. I didn't make use of the minibar, but the selections were varied and plentiful. If I had a complaint, it would be that the street noise, particularly of dumping recyclables and trucks beeping while backing up, was a bit disturbing; nothing a set of earplugs couldn't handle. Plenty of outlets are provided for charging your electronics, as is a comfortable desk for work. Wifi is available, and the alarm clock in my room had bluetooth connectivity. Water temperature and pressure were great. A set of shelves in the bathroom were useful extra space for setting out belongings. Special thanks to Jordan for his assistance with the luggage on both arrival and departure. I've already waxed nearly poetic about the staff at Mechant Boeuf. I'll add that while we didn't end up dining at Verses in the evening, the breakfast options were very good (fresh croissants were, in particular, brilliant, and the coffee was good. It should be noted that their yellow sweetener is NOT Splenda, and is MUCH sweeter; I ruined my own coffee through lack of observation. No more than 3/4 of a packet was enough for me, and I usually take 2 Splenda), and the staff just as friendly and accommodating as the rest of the hotel. The area is extremely walkable, with dozens of restaurants and brasseries in easy strolling distance. Many are owned by the same company as the hotel (it should be noted that several of these don't open for service until 4pm or later). We were particularly fond of Seasalt & Ceviche (seafood), around the corner, and Trois Brasseurs (brew pub) in the pedestrian market. There is a nearby pedestrian market featuring eateries, souvenir shops, and galleries. The souvenir shops are what you'd expect, but the galleries and art cooperatives are a treat. The Basilique is only a block or two away. It should be noted that the pedestrian market and many of the nearby streets are cobbled, and some have an incline. My parents, who use canes, found this challenging. We ended up not exploring much beyond the Vieux Port, as a result. This in no way reflects poorly on Hotel Nelligan, and is intended for purely informational purposes. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Hotel Nelligan immensely, and would recommend it to anyone looking for great service in...
Read moreVery cute hotel. Location in the middle of everything old Montreal. We were upgraded to a suite when we came in. Not sure what the “suite” version is. Just a bigger room. I think the superior room would have been good enough. But appreciate the gesture. We travel often so the room wasn’t impressive to us and your in old Montreal so your expecting a small quaint room.
Everything below I think the hotel needs to do better with their staff communication and policies:
The room is not as clean as it should be. I even left the Nespresso water tank out so they could see it had never been washed and was full of dust. The bathtub doesn’t look clean either. There is wear on the wooden doors, vanities and fireplace surrounds.
When I booked the hotel - I found a better price on Expedia that was $100 less a night and I called the hotel. The hotel promotes that they will give 10% less and they didn’t. They just matched the price. So I just kept my booking with Expedia as I got 9 times the points for booking with Expedia.
There is no room service after 10pm. No vending machine or fridge in the room with beverages. This is very annoying. Went to the bar and they just said they were closed. But after I offered $20 for a single can of coke. Suddenly they found one.
Have to use Uber eats to get any kind of drinks after 10pm. The front desk should have a supply of just drinks.
When I called to book the hotel I asked if there was an electric car charger in the hotel. They said no. Which is fine. Didn’t expect it. However when we got to the hotel the valet notified us that the cars get parked at another hotel that does happen to have an electric car charger. It’s a great surprise but if you have an electric car you understand the length you have to go to before you arrive to the hotel to charge the car. We were late to our dinner reservations. Knowing this in advance would have made our evening easier.
The cafe downstairs has a great bagel. It took the waiter half an hour to even just see us after we were seated. Also we were asked if we had a reservation when we arrived for breakfast. Making you feel your lucky to get a table. If your staying at the hotel there should be a separate line or asked to accommodate guests.
Staff is very friendly. I think management just needs to make some adjustments and this would be a great hotel. Especially if they want to charge a $100 a night more than...
Read moreHotel Nelligan and its staff were the highlight of our visit to Montreal. |Prior to our arrival, the Hotel’s Chef de Concierge, Jonathan Hug, welcomed us with an email in French and English asking what the hotel could do to make our stay more pleasant, and informing us of services, restaurants, and attractions both in the hotel and in the local community. |Upon our arrival, desk clerk Freddie welcomed us warmly and when we expressed our appreciation for Monsieur Jonathan’s personal attention, she said he was the star of the hotel, and we agreed. The hotel recently underwent an extensive renovation that beautifully blends a modern esthetic with historical exposed brick walls and vintage hardwood floors. It features a Greek restaurant, a steak house, and a rooftop bar and café all of which were delicious. We were upgraded to a spacious “petite suite” with fireplace, French doors overlooking an interior courtyard, and a large bathroom with a whirlpool tub. Monsieur Jonathan had sent up a bottle of champagne and nibbles to our room. When he learned later that my traveling companion was celebrating a birthday, he sent up complimentary drinks, pastries, and a gift. |Over the next week, we consulted daily with Monsieur Jonathan who recommended things to do and places to visit, procured admission tickets, made dinner reservations, explained bus and Metro routes and armed us with area maps. He was the perfect host, and his guidance enabled us to sample the best of Montreal (with a day trip to Quebec City) including visits to museums showcasing local archeology and fine and decorative arts, a Basilica sound and laser light show, the Oratory cathedral, the Olympic village, the breathtaking botanical garden, and several restaurants.|Montreal is a beautiful city with a lively and welcoming vibe. Monsieur Jonathan and the hotel Nelligan staff including Freddie, Arnaud, Elizabeth, Josh, and Clara made it even more approachable and vibrant with their friendliness and assistance. I will long remember them fondly and I heartily recommend this outstanding hotel and staff to other visitors to Montreal. You will feel like family. ||Brad Adams,...
