I’ve had amazing experiences at the PHI Centre in the past—especially the space and ancient Egypt VR themes. The quality, storytelling, and safety were all top-notch, and I left feeling inspired every time. That’s why I chose to come back to celebrate my sister’s birthday.
Unfortunately, this time was a big letdown. We kept bumping into other people during the session, which was painful and stressful. The usual safety features that help you see where others are just weren’t working. I had to lift my headset often just to avoid collisions, which ruined the experience.
The sound was also really low, even after trying different headsets and maxing the volume. It was hard to hear the story, and the visuals felt rushed and hard to enjoy—especially with so many people crowding the same spots.
We paid almost \$200 for four tickets and all left disappointed. One staff member was kind enough to check in with me afterward, which I appreciated. I still love what PHI is trying to do, but I really hope this visit was just a...
Read moreThe Horizon of Khufu (a.k.a. L'Horizon de Khéops), the sold-out VR attraction in the Old Port, is a solid 'meh' experience unless you're a school kid and/or not blessed with a vivid natural imagination. Otherwise, it's like paying for a fancy special effect when your brain can create something way more epic for free... And if I'd spent my ticket money on some, ahem, 'brain-enhancing' substances, I'm sure the experience would've been more... enlightening.
Here, I couldn't help but feel like I was stuck in a beta test that felt like a minimally viable product (MVP... get it?) that still needs some fine-tuning.
On the bright side, the staff is abundant and friendly, so you feel like you are at least supporting a bunch of people that otherwise would have no job, as well as a team of creatives who are trying to bring something new to the table, which is definitely of more value to society than the ArriveCAN app. And probably less...
Read moreWent with a group on June 30. Not my first experience with this type of event, so I knew something was wrong with my equipment. I tried adjusting it and I tried to get help with it, bottom line. My experience was not fun. Visually I may have actually experienced 25% of it. I kept taking it off because I kept losing the visual. Sound was great but without visual effects it was a waste of $$. I was also with my mom which is wheelchair bond and due to lack of visual, we kept bumping into people because I was trying to make her experience a good one I kept going. Plus they should not put 2 wheelchairs in same group. Just not fun playing bumper cars while trying to catch the show. I did mention it at exit and person told me it happens. Nice. My wife is offering to bring us back but I'm not happy about paying twice for us because I missed most of it. Very unhappy about show. Souvenirs were purchased for over 200$ but worth it. Good...
