The Pointe-à-Callière Museum in Montreal is less a celebration of history and more a shrine to colonial amnesia. It’s like walking into a time machine programmed by 18th-century French aristocrats—where Indigenous Iroquois history is barely a whisper and white settler triumphalism blares like a brass band. The museum practically canonizes colonial figures while treating Indigenous peoples as background scenery, if they’re acknowledged at all. It’s historical theater with a wildly biased script: settlers are brave pioneers, and the Iroquois? Mysteriously absent from the narrative, as if they vanished into thin air. If you’re looking for a balanced account of Montreal’s origins, this isn’t it. It’s historical cosplay for the colonial...

One of the more impressive museums I’ve been to, because of its interactive and diverse approach to information presentation.

From videos to light shows to song and traditional exhibits, I learned a lot about Montreal, and the people who have lived on this land. I also enjoyed the Egyptian exhibit— mummies and cats and facts oh my! It’s a little expensive but not bad if you had a small group.

I gave it four stars because despite its immersive, in-depth history of Montreal, it didn’t mention the French and Indian war, or the British battle to take over Montreal— its vague references of the change between New France and Britain seemed to whitewash an important aspect of Canadian and global...

If you like Nouveau France history, this is a must see. Recommend starting in the lower level, where some of the original 1700s fortifications have been rebuilt in stone, brick and timbers. Interactive displays will keep all ages interested. Our teenage sons who normally hate museums were intrigued. Go through the rest of the museum for the current exhibits and enjoy the history. Great bookstore also!

It is not worth it to buy the tickets online. There were 3 employees at the entrance: 2 were selling tickets to people without tickets, and 1 was with museum members. People with tickets had to wait way longer. Very badly organized for a long weekend. I will not come back, unfortunately.
