I stayed at Jasper Downtown Hostel for four nights at the beginning of August 2019 in an 8 bed mixed dorm on the second floor. The hostel was clean, modern and charming and located right in the heart of Jasper on Patricia Street. The hostel appeared to be fairly new and was in a nice looking two storey building. It was situated on one of the main streets in Jasper with lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The hostel was always clean and modern with nice décor inside. There was a small lounge area next to the lobby with seating and large windows with views of the town and mountain backdrop, a large industrial kitchen in the basement (you have to ask for a plate and cutlery set from the front desk and they will provide one, if you plan on using the kitchen), and lounge chairs and picnic tables outside in front of the hostel. The kitchen had lots of fridge space for storing your food. The lounge area in the lobby was pretty small so it would have been nice if there was a larger lounge with comfy seating and a cozier atmosphere to relax. The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The hostel didn’t have its own parking lot for guests but there were free public lots in the area and street parking available. I stayed in an 8 bed mixed dorm on the second floor. There were a mix of people in my dorm during my stay, but mostly females and only a few males. I ended up meeting some really nice women there. The hostel did offer female-only dorms as well (and dorms of various sizes), which I would have preferred, but they were sold out when I booked my stay. The dorm had wooden bunks which were built into the walls. The mattresses and pillows were super comfortable and the beds came with a thick warm blanket which was great for chilly nights. Each bunk had a privacy curtain, shelf, lamp and charging outlet. My dorm had a washroom and separate shower in the room which was convenient. I thought it was strange that there were locker compartments under only some of the bunks, but not all, and there weren’t enough lockers for everyone in my dorm (I, unfortunately, did not have a locker). There were a collection of metal lockers in the basement which anybody could use as well, though they weren’t as convenient. I felt safe in the hostel as a solo female traveler. The dorms were accessed with key cards and the front doors of the hostel were locked after 11 PM I believe, so you have to use the key card to get back in. The front desk closes during the nighttime but there is a phone number posted that you can call if there are any issues. The hostel didn’t have any organized activities or evening social events and it was generally pretty quiet in the evenings. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the hostel and had a good experience. This was my second time staying here (first time was in 2017). It is a great budget-friendly option in Jasper!

Our room was nice and simple with 8 bunk beds, each having their own curtain, reading lamp, charging point and a small shelf to keep small bedside stuff. We were each given a towel and bedding kit, and a kitchen kit which we kept in the common kitchen locker. The room was very clean and there was a common en-suite separate toilet and bathroom. Only a few lower bunk beds had storage lockers under the bed, so the others had to keep their bags next to their bunks. All common lights were supposed to be switched off by 11 pm. There was a large community kitchen with cook-tops and microwaves. Tea and coffee makers were also available. One could buy food and drinks from the downtown market and store it in the large refrigerators with glass doors, with our name and room number tags. We used the utensils provided by them and had to wash it after use with the liquid soap provided by them and return the kitchen kit before departing. We cooked our own dinner and breakfast next morning. There was a common lounge with TV and a bookshelf, and some sofas near the reception area and a small garden with outside seating. The staff were quite friendly and helpful. Free parking is available on the road next to the hostel.

Great experience at this hostel! It was my first time here and I’ll definitely be coming back. The gentleman that checked me in was courteous. The private room that I had was impressive. It was clean, modern and is generous for the amount of people that the room can accommodate. The kitchen downstairs was spacious. The ambiance is very welcoming. I guess my only observation, not a complain, was that though face masks/coverings were regulated well in the town of Jasper, the hostel seemed to be relaxed about that ruling. There were guests who were walking around maskless in the public areas of the hostel and so as that female staff who was talking to someone on the phone (airpods) while cleaning the kitchen on Sunday morning. It’ll be nice to see some consistency with the mask ruling between the staff and guests alike. Overall, it was a great stay. Definitely worth the price and will be coming back!

I WILL NEVER BOOK WITH JASPER DOWNTOWN HOSTEL EVER AGAIN!!! I had contacted the property the night before arriving into Jasper letting them know my situation that my train will be an early arrival and due to Covid everything on Jasper was closed. I had no where to go and sit down to grab some breakfast and coffee to kill some time till the 4pm check in time. I waited all night until arriving into Jasper and still never heard back from anyone at the Jasper Downtown Hostel, there was a lack of communication from them. I took a taxi from the Via Rail station to the Hostel only to have them waste my time and screw me over! I was dealing with some girl by the name of Mellisa or Amanda she was the most rudest and unprofessional person I’ve ever dealt with. When I walked in nobody was around at the front desk so I was waiting for a few minutes for someone to come out. This girl comes out from the back and doesn’t say anything but just stares at me, she doesn’t greet me whatsoever until I said Hi I’m here for my booking.

This girl was so damn rude and just sits down staring at the computer screen, I had followed up and asked her about the message I had sent them the night before but never heard back. I asked her about it and she doesn’t even look at me or respond, so I asked her again because she didn’t reply back so i figured maybe she didn’t hear but she heard she just chose to ignore me. When I had asked her the second time she yells at me saying that she’s going to cancel my booking because I’m being very rude????? Sorry, but following up on a message that was sent to the property and not getting a reply back is not considered being rude!

The manager screams at me and says this is to early for her, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. After letting her know that she’s the one that’s being rude and very unprofessional was not acceptable. I only knew that she as the manger because I had enough of her and asked to speak to the manger, and of coarse she says that she’s the manager. Then I asked to speak with the owner and she gives me hardcore attitude and says the owners aren’t around ok and good luck finding a hotel that will let me check in sooner than 4pm. Well Mellisa if that’s your real name or is it Amanda your so wrong about that because I contacted the Whistlers Inn and spoke to the most nicest and friendliest person ever the General Manager Vanessa was very understanding and understood my situation and was able to check me in right away. I recommend people staying at the Whistlers Inn instead of this place for sure!

I hope this will get looked into and have this person retrained or something because she is not manager material whatsoever! I will never recommend this place to anyone, I say pay the extra money and find some other place to stay that will respect there customers and travellers that walk through that door. The Jasper Downtown Hostel needs a new manager that girl should be fired! THEY ONLY GET ONE STAR BECAUSE I’M FORCED TO IN ORDER TO WRITE THIS REVIEW. THEY DON’T DESERVE ANY STARS THIS PLACE GAVE ME THE WORST...

Great hostel! I was in the 7 bed bunk, with the shared bathroom.

It's located - wait for it. Take a wild guess. Yep, downtown. Pretty convenient for walking around. You even have the legion right next to the place! I'll admit I haven't been to the place yet, but I've heard from friends it's awesome. Parking is a little tight - you might have to stick your dually diesel coal roller on the street.

Kitchen was great, it has all the pots and pans you need. Stove, oven, microwave, even a little electric grill! Don't worry about where to store your food - they've got plenty of space.

Beds come with a curtain for privacy, and feature a light, 2 USB chargers, 2 outlets, a little shelf to put stuff, and a couple coat hangers all in your bunk. I noticed that the number of lockers wasn't the same as the number of beds - not sure if that's because of COVID or not.

Beds are comfy - comfy enough for me to accidently sleep 16 hours straight! Whoops. Pillows are on the low side, something to consider if you prefer high pillows. Sheets felt pretty good.

The shared bathrooms and showers are top notch - better than a lot of hotels I've been to.

The place is fairly quiet - if you're looking for a party hostel, this probably isn't it. There's a small common area if you want to relax, use a laptop, read a book, yada yada yada. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Not sure about all the staff, but the two I met were both bilingual in English and French. I'm just a monolingual Anglo, but if you're a French tourist who accidently booked a flight to Jasper, Canada instead of Jasney, France - Have no fear. These guys can help you out.

I highly recommend this place, and will definitely be back next time I come to Jasper - hopefully I won't forget my Ski...
