Those 5-star reviews are misleading!
Pros: Location: in the center, plenty of restaurants in steps away. Room: spacious, looks clean.
Cons: TOO NOISY and facilities were shaking! near main street and railway, much noise from cars and trains; the most annoying thing is: when trains come and go, or not sure what reason else, the room/building was shaking, the floor and bedside lamps were vibrating the whole night with noise; we did not sleep at all the whole night. When placing the order, I only attached 1 request: a relatively quiet room, but finally we did not sleep at all.
Power was not stable, so TV, lights, internet were down and on, down and on for several times.
Check-in was slow and strange!! There was no staff at the front desk for a long time. Some guests waited and left. When a staff finally came, it took a long time finding my order. I placed this order via Booking, as I did in the past several years, I never had such experience before: She took at least 10 min checking the system, then not only asked about where I placed the order, which credit card I used to pay, then took another 10 min in silence and asked "did you check in last night"?! and then took another 10 min in silence, finally I got my key. Excuse me? what stupid system you are using?
For sure we will not come again!
Follow up on 29-Dec-2022:
Besides the true complaint above, today I found I was still charged two nights! I have never been asked whether you have checked in on the day before my reservation! What question it is! What system you are using?? Even after I have replied NO firmly (I have valid legal proof that I was at home working on my computer that night), the front desk girl still charged me two nights!!! It is not a simple overlook; it is a deliberate cheating!! If you would not notice it, they succeed!
This hotel is very strange. The reviews are highly positive, but my experience from check-in to stay was very bad! I am a frequent traveler, never met such situation before!
Follow up:
Although now they refunded me soon upon my complaint, they claim it is an ACCIDENTAL case.
I placed this reservation via Booking. Booking clearly shows my reservation was 21-22 Dec 2022 and I arrived the hotel on 21 Dec afternoon.
As I mentioned above, when check in, the girl asked me whether I checked in yesterday (on 20 Dec), I confirmed NOOO!! But they still charged me with two separate transactions: (1) upon my check-in on 21 Dec: charged me the whole amount for 20-21 Dec; (2) upon my check-out on 22 Dec: charged me another whole amount for 21-22 Dec.
Which means, after I replied "I did NOT check in yesterday", IMMEDIATELY the girl still operated in their system with "I checked in yesterday" and helped me pay for the night before, ACCIDENTALLY!! Completely fooling and cheating!
The total experience prevent me staying...
Read moreJasper is a tiny summer seasonal resort town. Most money businesses make relies on summer tourism with minimal winter activities and access. Its resources are limited, and the many restrictions on the town for expansion imposed by Parks Canada to sustain the environmental impact on the area do not allow for glitzy expenditures to modernize the buildings. There are many newer places on the outskirts of the town, but you will need to either drive into downtown or walk the distance to and from.
This was our first of many visits to Jasper. We wanted to stay close to downtown and experience the town on this trip. We will remain outside Jasper for future trips as we have explored the whole town. We will take in the many hiking trails in the surrounding areas. If you want the high-end experience - stay in Banff. But we were in Jasper to hike and explore. We only needed a place to clean up and rest in the evenings between hiking and exploring.
Keeping this in mind, I will tell you about our experience at the Whistlers Inn.
We stayed 3 nights at the Whistlers Inn. It is located in the heart of Downtown Jasper, across from the Jasper Information Center and Train Station. It is within walking distance of the whole town. There are a lot of restaurants, historical buildings, and shopping within 5 minutes. The hotel is dated. But keep in mind what I said above. If you want glamour and glitz - go to Banff.
Parking on-site is limited. We arrived pretty late, so we had to unload the car and then drive it to a public parking spot, which was closer to walk to than to drive to. However, being guests at the hotel, our parking at the lot was covered. The next day, we were able to snag a spot at the hotel from someone who left.
The room we were in was small and dated. However, the bed, linens, and room cleanliness were excellent. The room had a small fridge to keep our water bottles in for daily hikes and outings. The room also had air conditioning. This is a must, especially as the summers in Alberta are beginning to get warmer and sleeping in a hot room is not relaxing. The air conditioning kept the room very comfortable even when the daytime temperature was 30C, and nighttime temperature was hovering in the high teens. The staff was attentive and pleasant to deal with. Only once did we feel that there was a small attitude from one of the front desk people, but we put it off as being young and new to the industry.
We did not eat at the hotel as we ate our meals at the many other restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Overall, we were glad to have chosen the Whistlers Inn. The clean room, location in the town, and the AC made it worth our first...

Many complain if things are not to their liking but few put positives out where they are deserved. This place is a beautiful Gem in the heart of Jasper. An original hotel that has been renovated and kept pristine. Ontop of all that, they are renovating again. They really are valuing this beauty and it's character/quality. Such a find.
The service is amazing as they always want to please. ●Manager Vanessa is Amazing● and such a kind soul that works so hard for us all. Her team under her leadership are all incredible that keeps it a positive beautiful place. They are all real people that laugh with you and appreciate you. Now if you ask for something and they can't provide, it's because they can't but they always rise to the occasion for their great customers. Staffing and supply is tough. No need to be mean, as vinegar doesn't catch flies but honey does.
We are regular patrons/ customers there at the Whistlers Inn and the Whistle Stop Pub. We travel 3.5hrs multiple times a year to be there. This is the only hotel in the heart of Jasper and everything is within walking distance. This town is not over developed as to maintain the authentic mountain town feel.
Parking is an issue as the town has squeezed and surrounded the Inn, but there is plenty of parking across or just down the street that the staff will help you with. Ask them. Just pull up, drop luggage off to check in and park after. All a short walk. The so called parking close to the Hotel, the town charges rental for and stalls are so few, the spots are reserved for higher priced suites that pay $$$. This makes sense as they are not cheap at all..
All in all, it's absolutely amazing, and then, its crowned off with the roof top hottubs that no one else can boast about. We will stay no place else as we have been spoiled by The Whistlers Inn staff, service, amenities, and convenience.
Thank you to Whistlers Inn. We appreciate you...
