The Jasper Information Centre is an absolute treasure and the perfect starting point for any adventure in Jasper National Park. Housed in a beautifully preserved heritage building right in the heart of town, the centre offers not only practical information but a warm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately makes you feel connected to the spirit of the Rockies.

The staff here are phenomenal—knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about the area. Whether you’re planning a multi-day hike, looking for hidden gem viewpoints, or just trying to figure out where to spot wildlife, they go above and beyond to help you tailor your visit. Their insider tips made our trip unforgettable.

Beyond the helpful advice, the building itself is worth a visit. The rustic stone-and-log architecture is iconic, and there's a real sense of history in its walls. There are informative displays about the park’s geology, wildlife, and history, which make it a great little stop even on a rainy day.

We left with detailed maps, new hiking ideas, and a deeper appreciation for Jasper. This place sets the tone for everything that makes the park so special—nature, heritage, and warm Canadian hospitality.

Don’t miss it—your Jasper experience will be so much better if...

We visited the Jasper Information center in February 2020. We had noticed a mining operation near Hinton (only 75 km from Jasper) and a covered conveyor type structure going overtop of Highway 16. We had asked the staff at the info center what was being mined and what the conveyor was for. The staff had no clue. I stated that it likely was coal mining and the covered conveyor was to haul the coal. Surprisingly the staff here thought coal mining was nonexistent in Canada! Wow! I had to tell them that coal is actively mined near Stony Plain. They assumed it was oil and gas. I stated that the top of a mountain is being excavated. Later, when I looked online, there is a large coal bed in the area that has several active coal mines. I am incredibly embarrassed for the Canadian government to have such ignorant people working in the information services center in one of our busiest national parks. Please educate your staff on all resources in the area, not just the...

We were lucky enough to be spending 4 days in Jasper on a two week trip around the Rocky Mountains. As excited as we were about it we hadn't made any specific plans while we were here, so popped in here to get some information on what there was specifically to do. There were plenty of leaflets on local activities which we took full advantage of. We were also interested in some local hikes so asked the staff if they had any recommended ones. They supplied us with a map of all the popular hikes of all lengths and difficulty, which was just what we needed. We were also a little nervous about the dangers of wildlife and they were very helpful and clear on their advise, including areas closed off due to elk giving birth (we are from the UK so don't have to deal with this kind of wildlife often). Finally, the actual building itself is beautiful being the original from when the town was 1st established. The town is still not huge so you have a real sense of it being on...

Overall, my time in Jasper was underwhelming. The general atmosphere of the town felt off. LGBTQ flags were displayed almost everywhere—which I understand is meant to show support—but the sheer saturation made it feel less about inclusivity and more about making a statement. At times, it felt like if you’re not part of that specific community, you’re out of place. It’s safe to say, I won’t be coming back. There are quite literally hundreds of flags and stickers lining the main street. I’m fairly certain those flags aren’t free—nor is the cost of installing them. You’d think that money could be better spent on rebuilding parts of the town that were damaged by fire. Even if everything was donated, those donors could’ve put their support toward something far more meaningful—like helping rebuild the parts of town damaged by the fire. That would’ve made a real difference.
