We had really nice meals at the Tavern, and in the restaurant the following morning. Staff was also really friendly. What did not enjoy is the urine stains in the tile below the toilet as well as the buildup of dirt around the showers. The fireplace in the room was not in working order, and the furniture was worn down. The hotel could really use an update and some maintenance as well as a deep clean. I don’t think all the fake plants have been cleaned in many years, it’s giving them a very outdated look with dust covered plants. The lounge and bathrooms were clean, and the service was great there as well. We opted out of the pool area as the chlorine burned our eyes as soon as we entered in the pool room, it could use a little more ventilation in my opinion, we stayed in room 251. Oh, and there was also some kind of stain on the table, as well as tile needing repair by the fireplace. I shouldn’t have to bring the cleanliness up to the staff at the time of stay, these items should just be done before guests check in. It seems like common sense to me and good business, I noticed these items after we unpacked everything and it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me. It was just a little bit gross. If we were staying for more than one night, I probably would’ve requested the room to be cleaned again, or moved to another one. I definitely did not have a Jacuzzi bath because I use my imagination with what was potentially inside the jet system based on what was on the floor. Staff were great, hotel needs some maintenance and updating.

My family of 4 and I stayed in the 100 block. I didn't really like the room with the split-bathroom layout (tub/shower and toilette in one room), vanity and sink in the other... I couldn't determine if the bathroom fan ventilation was even working. Everytime we showered the bathroom would fog up, then our room was somewhat humid. The bed mattresses were not very comfortable as were the sheets. The sleep was okay surprisingly! The room was clean and well appointed. The hotel has a very nice atmosphere, super awesome gym, Aaltos Family Restaurant and an amazing waterslide/pool area for the kids. We came here for the waterslide and hot tub and we were not disappointed. Front desk staff were friendly as was the restaurant staff. The Tavern United was open, and Playmakers but this time around with kids I didn't get to use them. This place also has a 5 or 6 lane curling rink in it and hosts curling competitions. One suggestion for the hotel would be to add a games room or something with a play structure, ping pong or table games. It would really make the location even more desirable for families staycationing. Thanks for the nice stay. We will be back in the future.

Am missing the Canad Inn's curling series! These series of events -- the Canad Inn's Women's, Men's and Mixed Doubles Classics, always drew a strong Canadian and international field. Women's teams that competed in this event include Rachel Homan, Jennifer Jones, Cheryl Bernard, Anna Hasselborg, Michelle Englot, Sherry Anderson, Chelsey Carey, Renée Sonnenberg, Heather Nedohin, Kim Eun-jung, Kelly Scott and Briar Hürlimann. Men's events that participated in this event include Kevin Koe, Kevin Martin, Nik Edin, Jeff Stoughton, Kerry Burtnyk, Mike McEwen, Steve Laycock, Brendan Bottcher, Reid Carruthers, and Glenn Howard. Sadly the 2019 men's edition was cancelled due to a power outage in a snow storm, and cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic and was never run again following. In addition to these events giving teams important points and well-earned cash, they were also conveniently close to their accommodation. Time to bring it back?

Honestly was a decent trip! We go away every Christmas break with our young kids to a hotel solely for the purpose of swimming and restaurants. This was our first time at Canad Inns portage. It was easy to get too, the hotel is a bit dated but honestly the lobby and balcony is done in nice stone work and wood and my husband and I really enjoyed the rustic 90s feel haha. The staff was amazing- we had Ashely . I called the day prior to see if we could get an earlier check in and Ashely said it shouldn't be an issue but to call back the day of to double check. So we called back the next day and Ashely was there again, and said not a problem. We were able to check in at 1:30-2pm instead of the usual 4. It gave us more time swimming with the kids. The pool was decent temp and the splash park, mushroom, and waterslide were a hit . Hot tub was clean too! We had breakfast at Aalto's- server was friendly and easy to talk too, they had weekday breakfast specials on and we happen to be checking in on a Sunday- leaving on a Monday- so Monday breakfast was a cheap $4.99 for pancakes or eggs, bacon, toast etc. good for for a good price. Upon checking out, I told Ashely I didn't need a printed receipt- a email would do just fine, and we were on our way home. To my surprise , my email receipt showed our king suite was " coming home for the holidays" at a discounted rate compared to what it was when I originally booked and checked in. After taxes , it was still $55 cheaper than the original quote so that was a very nice Christmas surprise! - we had a king bedroom suite, so the kids could sleep on the pullout couch and air mattress , while husband and I shut the bedroom door and hid out in the room watching tv later into the night without disturbing the kids. The balcony which are room was on was very quiet and no outside noise. We would stay here again! Great...

Me and my family stayed here this past week. A quick overnight stop on our way home to ONT from Alberta. We came in late 3am, the front desk was very polite and helpful. Made check in quick and easy. That is 5 stars for me. The rooms were big and beds were very comfortable, 5 stars again, I thought to myself i will bring my family here for a vacation or quick overnights again in the future. But the morning and checkout came, that experience was opposite, the front desk asked me if I was really sure everyone was out of both rooms and sent another employee to check out the rooms first before I could get my deposits back, that is what I can assume as everything else seemed in working order with the clerk. The line for checkout was held up for the ppl behind me. I waited about 20+ minutes for this to be completed, during that time the clerk gave me a $10 voucher for the restaurant that would open at 4pm that day and set to expire Aug 15/21, to me that voucher was useless, reasons being, first i was checking out, second I'm from out of province and lastly i doubt I would be traveling to portage la prairie in the next 10 days. I assumed the hotel checks everybody's rooms at check out too, I found out this isn't the case, it was only done to me out of the 4 ppl checking out sametime. How I know it didn't happen to the ones in line behind me is I watched how quickly they were checked out before and after. We questioned ourselves why did it happen to us, only to us. I am native, i was the only one, I can only hope that didn't play in the factor of the hotels checkout policies. Driving away from this hotel, i felt sad. At that moment I decided I will not be staying at this "best managed hotel" again, the check out experience deserved 1 star, the clerk was still polite towards myself during the very long wait. It was almost a perfect stay except the long...

I called twice last week to bring up a serious issue that came up during our stay there on November 12, 2022.

The first woman said she would get back to me by the next morning, after my call to the hotel on November 14, 2022. I did not hear back from her. I called the hotel again on Thursday or Friday last week and spoke to a man that said he would personally hand the message to one of the ladies he believed I spoke to. I still have yet to hear back.

My friend and I booked rooms next to each other and had a small birthday party for her daughter. We have four young children between the two of us. After swimming in your pool for a short time they all began coughing. I noticed that we all began coughing and had burning eyes and noses. We left the pool area and asked the front desk attendant, she wrote us a meal voucher (not enough for a wrap) for the restaurant and said all she could do was close the pool.

The pool was not closed and was not closed the next morning either. The chlorine and/or ventilation in the pool area was terrible. We did not get much use of the pool that evening and could not go back in the next morning due to the issues it caused with us and our children.

The children had painful breathing and coughs and we had to seek medical attention due to the issue in your pool. This issue ruined our stay and caused issues with our children for days! I am extremely upset that nobody seems to care to discuss this issue with me.

The hotel has still not reached out to me after I addressed this issue three times with them.

As a secondary concern, our rooms were far smaller and much spacious than advertised.

Edit: I was contacted by the hotel and was offered a suite each for my friend and I. The suites were very nice and out second stay was much better. Will return...
