I stayed for 3 days for a much needed break after a string of stressful events. Check in was a bit complicated due to my husband paying with his credit card and not staying with me and me not having my ID (my fault) but the the front desk staff was very helpful. I really appreciated her.
My room was very clean except for 1 hair in the bathroom and another in a drawer. Hair doesn't gross me out like it does some people so not a huge deal for me. But I did wipe these surfaces with a sanitary wipe provided just to be sure they were clean. Some of the paint in the bathroom on the towel shelf was worn down and peeling, could use a paint touch-up. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. There were wine glasses but no corkscrew. Fortunately the front desk had one I was able to use but I had to go get it, take it to my room to open the wine, then take it back downstairs as it was the only one.
The glass sliding door leading out to the balcony was open an inch or so when I arrived. I closed it but due to the seal needing to be replaced and strong winds and very chilly weather while I was there, a howling/whistling sound and cold breeze that came through. I did not wish to have a male enter my room so I declined the handyman offer. I would have preferred that they offer me to switch rooms.
I noticed that the fridge was not cold, only slightly cool. Because I needed to store perishables and didn't want to keep filling my container I bought with ice from down the hall, I had to request the repair person. He was kind and professional and non-intimidating, I just really don't feel comfortable with a man especially entering my hotel room. He was unable to fix it and offered to send yet another guy to fix it, to which I declined and stuck to the ice hack and non-highly-perishable food.
The next part is long so long story short, although I met the cleaning women in the hallway to ask for a facecloth replacement one day, and coffee the next, both cleaning people 2 days in a row pushed past me and entered my room without my permission and proceeded to look around very, very nosily, as though they were looking for something. The one woman pushed by me and unlocked my door quickly with her own key, and looked in the bathroom and main room while I was asking her what she thought she was doing, and the other stuck a wooden block in the door jamb! It was all very bizarre and I had definitely not given them any reason to believe that anything odd was going on in my room! The housekeeping supervisor/manager came to my room to offer an apology. Hotel management was also called today and also offered an apology. I hope it won't happen to anyone else now.
There is no pool, only a hot tub and sauna. Nobody mentioned them to me at all. There were no slippers available and when I asked housekeeping for some she asked me why I needed them then laughed, looked down at my feet, and told me to wear my socks! I only had knee high boots with me and it was more of a hassle than it was worth so I skipped the hot tub altogether. Slippers would be a really nice addition to the offerings available for the room itself and the hot tub.
There is a single cup coffee machine/kettle provided which boils water quickly, Starbucks coffees, and I believe Tazo teas that were all very good. I would have preferred a real mug to the paper cups so I went to the nearby quay shops and bought one.
Something else that was not mentioned to me is that when dining at Angelina's, a 10% discount is given to hotel guests. I ate at Angelina's, Boathouse, and Craft Cafe. I am curious if the other 2 places offer the same discount. It would be great if this was mentioned to guests.
The cost for my stay for 3 days was a bit steep for the rating quality of the hotel - $671.07. This was with a small discount too.
The location is good, with close access to transit, many restaurants, a grocery store, liquor store, pub, shops at the quay and a couple of short blocks away, and a nice waterfront walk. The rooms offer a nice view of the river, which many of the...
Read moreCheck in Nov1, asked for room on 6th floor , in email sent about two weeks prior, given one on 3rd when i showed up, compromised on 5th floor. broken glass found in room, changed rooms, when out for dinner and walking around and came back to find a parking ticket on my car ,given by the hotels lot attendant, about a hour after id checked in/registered, issue taken to desk and fixed.
New room much better then one originally given but still small issues with fridge and in room heating, decided what ever.
Night three, my partner arrives for romantic weekend to celebrate five year anniversary, at about 12:20am takes a shower/bath in Jacuzzi tub, about 10minutes to one in the morning we find water has soaked carpet in closet, "den/desk" area outside of bathroom and spread to the rooms entrance, all while the tiled bathroom floor is dry. Front desk called, told someone will be sent up but that we will need to switch rooms as the water will need to be turned off in the one we're in.
Attendant shows up and tells us that the water has actually spread out into the floors main hallway, going out from the wall by about a foot, as well i look for my self and find that the water has also flowed into the fire escape stairwell.
Room changed to smaller room directly across the hall, after moving about half our stuff, walking on soaked carpeting we found that the bed was not only smaller but also one of those "Murphy" beds, {the kind that is a fold up/down from the wall.}
Front desk called about issue, moved to another room on a different floor, aside from dropping off new key cards and trolley no help from staff, time is now about 1:20 in the morning.
Get into new room, {technically the 4th since check in} unpack, discover that the bed is to hard/uncomfortable, but to tired at this point to move to another room, as well could not leave as we both had been having some drinks so not safe to drive {5th year anniversary}.
Email sent to the hotel manager about the issues.
Worst sleep we've had, woke up stiff/sore and in general just not happy/miserable, email from hotel manager , later call, manager offered to take a night off the bill or give us a free night at a later date or a $100.00 gift certificate for the boathouse restaurant, said i would think about it and if she could call back as she was not in teh hotel at this time.
During the discussion with my partner and what we would like to do my partner noticed bugs in the room, i had , had enough, called down to teh front desk and told then that we where checking out, the manager called back as we where finishing packing.
Didnt really give her much of a chance to talk , said, we found bugs in teh room, we're done, we're leaving, and i hung up.
Four night stay of joy turned into two okay night and one night of hell.
Pics taken of bugs in room, as well as the room flood, the most unimpressed ive ever been with any hotel , room changed 4 times with one including a floor change at 120am, almost hard as a rock bed and a very distinctive apathetic attitude from staff/manager, thanks for the special memories for our...
Read moreWe arrived at the hotel very late at night (1am) and the check-in was nice and easy, no fuss, just facts - checking of the reservation (booked through Expedia), keys to the room and a good night (I prefer that to bothering the customer with thousands of questions, when they clearly just want to go to bed). We stayed for three nights (technically two whole nights, since we arrived in the middle of the first night and left in the middle of the third).
Our room was on the sixth floor (and, as I discovered later, turned away from the "noisy" Paddlewheeler pub and the River Market, that some of the reviewers mention), but still had a balcony with a view of Fraser River. This is the West side of the hotel, but I think the view from the balcony (on any of the higher floors) is more or less the same.
The room is spacious and decently furnished. We had a queen bed, with a sofa chair and a desk with an office chair. If you have some work to do, or just want to use your computer, this is quite useful (there's plenty of sockets to charge all your devices). There's also a TV in the room (had no need to use it) and a fridge underneath it. There's enough lights to keep the room bright and also an AC by the balcony door (turn it off during the night, otherwise you'll freeze even on the lowest setting).
As you walk in, there's a bathroom on your left (in our case) with a huge bathtub and a wall mirror. They offer you a ton of towels, bathrobes, a dryer and some shampoos and creams. There's also a coffee machine, some coffee and tea with cups at the ready for you. No idea how much they charge for it since we didn't use any.
The only problem that we encountered were some really noisy guests on our floor. Obviously there were more of them, but in different rooms and they had the need to yell out loud from one side of the hallway to the other. In the middle of the night. But that was it.
All in all this hotel is nothing special, nothing to rave about, but okay to spend the night if you're out most of the day (city centre is 30min away with Sky Train and you're 30min away from the airport with a taxi ($55) - Sky Train takes about an hour and a half since you have to change trains). The price is a bit steep for the value though, breakfast or any other meals are extra (not included in the price, as you might be...
