The Ramada used to be nice place, and it feels like they want it to be a nice place again, but there's work to do. The hotel is somewhat dated. Some work has been done to to update, but a lot of the place still feels like it's from the early 00's, including the room I was in. The "Superior" Queen room I was booked into was tiny. It certainly didn't look and feel like it was advertised on the website, and definitely isn't close to being on par with similarly priced rooms in Regina. The room was clean for the most part, except for a considerable amount of black hairs in the tub. The carpet is likely old enough to drink in the US now, and I didn't feel comfortable enough with it to attempt any stretching down there. The TV was tiny. And there was an extremely outdated iPod alarm clock beside the bed that didn't have a plug, so it was useless. Not sure why they would leave it there... Aside from that, the room was unremarkable. The underground parking was nice, since downtown Regina doesn't feel at all safe after dark. Having said that, elevators down there would be nice. It's annoying to see a door that says, "Elevators and Staircase," only to find a staircase that leads to elevators. Good thing I'm not mobility impaired. The place probably could have redeemed itself if the service was any good. It was not. Upon checking in at around 4:30pm, the young man sitting on a stool at the counter, with a badge on that said "Supervisor," barely glanced up, or greeted me, or even smiled. He seemed genuinely annoyed to have to deal with someone. There was a mistake with the billing for my room, and rather than help me try and solve it, I got, "You need to give us a physical card or we can't check you in." The issue was solved the next day with a phone call, but probably could have been dealt with then. I saw the same guy later in my stay and he seemed to be in a better mood, but still wasn't going to win any service awards. The other service fail came when I asked for a feather pillow. "Check back at the end of the day," I was told. Okay, I did that, and was told that all the feather pillows were being washed, but that they should be available the next day. Great, I said, please save me a couple. They didn't save me a pillow.
In the end the Ramada was, at best, a place to lay my head. I wouldn't go out of my way to book here unless I don't have any other options. Comparable properties nearby give me considerably better value for my money, with considerably...
Read moreAttended this hotel in early January for a ringette tournament. Tournament was great. Hotel was not. The least you want out of a hotel is cleanliness and safety. This hotel offers neither. Several families on the team had to change rooms multiple times due (but not limited) to toilets leaking, toilets overflowing, sheets appearing to be unwashed, filthy, stained with blood. We witnessed adults passed out on furniture in shared spaces, appearing to be high/intoxicated, needing to be escorted out by police. The lobby was constantly full of the smell of weed, and people openly discussing their drugs deals. Drunk adults stumbled in to our kids. Several families has other guests/strangers/staff access their rooms - technology and staff dysfunction were rampant this weekend. Key cards appeared to be unlocking rooms other than the ones they were assigned to. Staff also barged in to one of the families rooms, unannounced (to fix a toilet), then proceeded to have a very heated, loud argument in front of the family. By day two several of the team members had itchy skin - likely due to the broken filter in the hot tub, which we learned on the last day, after spending hours each day, stewing in a brew of shared filth. No one appeared to know how to redeem the tickets for continental breakfast. Staff were stressed. Families were stressed. I personally was charged for TWO rooms (I used one). Despite attending the front desk several times upon noticing this error, multiple phone calls and emails that went almost consistently unanswered, I was ultimately refused a refund due to not being able to prove I wasn't in both rooms- a wild and unfair expectation to have of a guest. I have emailed my complaint to the general manager. Its been a week. No response. I am a single mom and could barely scrape the funds together to attend the tournament in the first place. Being charged for two rooms is having an ongoing negative impact on my family. So if you're looking to put your families safety at risk, expose your children to communicable skin diseases, and then be ripped off and ignored, this is your place. If not - stay somewhere else. Literally,...
Read moreI booked my room well in advance to be in Regina in order to check in to the General Hospital for 6:30 am. I live in Weyburn. I specifically requested and was promised a handicap room with a walk in shower and lots of grab bars. Upon checking in I found the bathroom had a very deep soaker tub with two grab bars. Feeling exhausted after a hectic day of shopping I decided to live with it. I was sitting at the desk using my iPad when my door that had the security clamp engaged suddenly opened and a woman with a suitcase was standing there. In a brief conversation we found we each had been assigned the same room and that we shared a last name. She left to go back down to reception. Thinking maybe I had been given her reservation instead of the requested handicap room, I phoned the front desk. Then I packed up and went downstairs to get my new room. I started with 502 and moved to 402 which I was told had a walk in shower. It turned out that it was the same as 502 but smaller and fewer grab bars. None near the low toilet. I had to use the towel rod. I just didn’t have the energy to move again. I checked all the menus and decided I like the pub one the best but debated on room service because of my exhaustion. After a short rest I decided to go downstairs for supper. I couldn’t find the pub so chose the dining room which was empty. Being lactose intolerant limited my choices and the beef dip on the lunch menu was not available. The beef riblets I ordered were crunchy little nuggets that couldn’t be pierced by my fork. But tasty. The Caesar salad was a bit limp rather than crunchy. But the liquid Caesar I ordered first went down well. The room temperature was comfortable in my room and the HVac system seemed to provide the right white noise that I slept quite well much to my surprise. The wake up call came a few minutes early and a taxi was waiting for me as requested. I think if the front desk staff had better knowledge of room facilities this could be a...
