I rated my experience today September 01, 2021 as a three star.
Three of us came during lunch rush around 12:15pm. There were a few tables maybe 6-8 at the time. There was only one lady working at the front. She was struggling to multi-task, which is reasonable due to the the volume. My only complain was that she wasn’t very interactive and didn’t really talk to us the whole time other than when she needed to like asking our order or refilling our water.
Food came fairly quick for a busy lunch. I had the black garlic ramen and we also had some California sushi and shrimp tempura which are really good. Ramen was fair, unexpectedly bland because it looked amazing. Needed more body on the broth, more flavour and some more seasoning.
Would I comeback? Maybe, depending on the mood even though I would eat ramen anytime of the day and the week.
Maybe I had set the bar too high because I’ve had amazing ramen somewhere else before and sifting through the photos, they looked amazing.
What would I recommend to improve the experience? We need more interaction with our server. Maybe put more than one front of house during lunch rush. Test their products more frequently, maybe a bowl everyday before service to check seasoning and quality.
What were the positives? Place look very authentic and immersive. From the cement/stone tables, to the very heavy and beautiful sushi plate, actual ramen bowl and great location being downtown and close to a parkade.
Overall good experience just a little underwhelmed by the food and service. Goodluck and hopefully I’ll...
Read moreWent during lunch hour in the week and the restaurant was pretty busy. Parking is very difficult. There is a large empty paid ImPark lot right beside the restaurant but apparently ImPark won't allow anyone to park there no matter how much they pay. Nevertheless this has very little to with the restaurant. There are quite a few metered street spots 1 block west. It was clear almost all customers walked there from their workplaces downtown.
I went with a bento box and I felt that was a pretty well rounded lunch. Only thing I can say is if you are like me and don't know your Japanese dishes off the top of your head you might struggle with what to order. The menu has a fair number of options but I struggled to visualize the dishes and choose what I wanted after reading the menu. Luckily my friend had eaten there before and gave me a recommendation. I feel that the problem I had could be solved one of 3 ways: slightly more detailed descriptions of what the Japanese dishes are. a few pictures of dishes either on the menu or on a table card a daily special introduced by the server (doesn't need to be less $) In my opinion any of those things would have pushed me towards making my mind up on what to order much easier / more...
Read moreArrived in Regina late, seems that many of the restaurans close at 8pm . Luckily this one was open until 9 p.m. I decided to try the tonkotsu Ramen, salmon sashimi, shrimp tempura, Gold Dragon Roll and of course just had to try the Regina roll.
I must say I'm not a huge fan of ramen in general but I wanted to try this one since the rating at this restaurant was 4.7 stars and a lot of the reviews were about the ramen I chose the tonkotsu ramen. I was blown away at how good the broth is and the noodles really good. Overall this dish had a dense hearty flavour profile and I ended up ordering another for takeout. Could've use better pork meat though.
The salmon sashimi are cut very thin and the shrimp tempura was a bit soggy with oil not crispy at all.
The Regina roll I would have again but the gold dragon roll I think trying it the one time is enough. Next time I would switch it out and try their other rolls.
To be honest I think if I were to come back to the restaurant I would just stick to the ramen. The Ramen is the main reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars. The young man who served us was super helpful about giving me answers on all my Regina questions. The place is really clean and the restrooms are well...
