Had a pleasant stay at the Sandman Hotel in Regina.
Positives:
We booked a small suite and it was roomy and clean.
Staff was helpful and courteous. Special mention of: Crystal at the front desk. She was doing an outstanding job of multi-tasking at their usually busy front desk area. Always friendly, welcoming and helpful. A definite asset to their hotel overall. Her professional demeanor and appearance leaves the kind of impression that all hotels should strive for. Well done Crystal! :-)
Also would like to mention another front desk agent: Anne (sp.?) She was also pleasant, helpful and friendly and assisted me with some printing when their business center printer was not working.
Location is good, close to major malls and restaurants. We did not visit the Denny's or Moxie's onsite but they are very convenient for those that wish to.
Large, King bed was comfortable, with a nice duvet and lots of pillows.
They have a lovely LARGE courtyard with gazebo, chairs and tables. Whoever is taking care of that area of their grounds is doing a great job. It was so pretty, inviting and tidy looking.
Price was very reasonable too, especially for a suite as compared to a regular hotel room. That was also appreciated, especially given how busy the hotel appeared to be.
Negatives:
A few areas with room for improvement. Both the kitchen area drain and the bathroom sink drain were draining very slowly when we arrived. The clock radio was also not functioning properly.
The hallways were stuffy and WARM! No air circulation it seemed.
The room had a very strong chemical type scent when we arrived, which we had to air out. Too bad the windows only open a small amount. I don't really see how this is necessary for security given the overall size of the small window opening and having been on the second floor. A bit more fresh air would have been appreciated. I don't like having to run the fan or AC on a regular basis, especially at night.
Furniture was quite old and dated but clean.
We did find one pillow case that was gross! Obviously not noted when changing the pillow cases, hopefully they are, on a regular basis!!!
I also think that the pet rooms should have slip covers on their textured couches and chair. A real "draw" for cats but we covered them up so that our Mr. Cheddar didn't use them as a scratching post! He is a good boy but that was one big temptation!!!
Overall, would definitely recommend this hotel and would book...
Read moreMy teenage daughter and myself stayed at Sandman Regina July 30 & 31st, 2016. We googled hotels and booked a room with 2 queen beds.. On arrival they had no record of the reservation and the hotel was sold out except for a smoking room and a room with one king bed. Though disappointed, we took the king room and the desk clerk promised to move us to a double room the following day. Check-in took forever and we had to unpack our laptop, log in and find him the confirmation number to prove we had really booked and at what price. He did drop the room price by $10.00. The room was nicely decorated though not very roomy. The worst part was the loud air conditioner. It sounded like a truck running beside the bed all night. The shower had very little water pressure. The television was tiny by today's standards and was impossible to switch channels easily. I never did figure it out. The room was clean and the bed comfy. Lots of pillows which was nice. After waking many times during the night, thanks to the air conditioner, I needed a coffee. I was shocked to find coffee in the coffee pot already. It had never been cleaned! The hotel had no breakfast and the Dennys on site offered no discount for guests. We returned in the evening and the desk clerk gave us the double room. It was clean and fresh, though the hallways smelled strongly of fresh paint or varnish. I wanted to skip the air conditioner and use the window. No screen was on the window so we slept in a hot room. We left Regina and continued on our road trip. The next day I realized I had left pants and a new blouse in the closet of our 2nd room. I called Sandman right away and housekeeping checked. Yes the clothes were there but they would not send them to me. WHAT? I was willing to pay the charges and they had my credit card number to bill. Housekeeping said it was my responsibility to contact a courier of my choice and make arrangements. This was beyond frustrating. Apparently only Sandman refuses to return items left behind. So NO I would never recommend a...
Read moreWas a nice building and all, except the staff kind of ruined our experience here.
My girlfriend insisted we stay here because of past positive stays and was definitely the worst she had at a sandman.
So check in was decent, the room was good and large and even had a den, although the sheets had some stains on them which made us a little uneasy but they were nothing crazy.
What our main problem was from was the cleaning maid and manager or supervisor. First, we received a wake up call at 8am which we never requested. Second, at 10am a maid was banging on the door to see if people were in the room and I'd we wanted it cleaned. This is not protocol and I'm sure they had or should have had an occupied list of rooms. She said sorry reluctantly and with attitude. Thirdly, before it was time for check out even, a maid had not even knocked but just opened the door and tried to come in flat out. I had the safety latch on and saw it catch, then they shut the door very quietly to try and hide it. I immediately went to the hall to see the same lady saying she didnt so it, it was her supervisor. She had played stupid as well saying we thought you were gone, when meanwhile they were cleaning the units around us had not gone anywhere and knew we were in there.
When downstairs checking out, the same supervisor lady tried to flat put lie about the whole situation and then laughed and snickered right in my face, I could not believe the attitude or audacity on trying to lie.
The ONLY thing that made up for this was the extremely understanding front desk lady and in how apologetic, sincere and genuine she was. She helped us out with accommodations and extra and assured she would address it which was the right approach, instead of lieing their way out like some people think is acceptable to do... would try a sandman again but definitely would be hesitant on...
