We came in as a group of four on July 2nd later in the evening around 10 pm. We were terribly disappointed with the service or lack of, the food and the overall attitude displayed by most of the staff we interacted with. As people who have worked in the service industry which includes one of Canada's 100 top restaurants, we can understand the how a busy night can feel. With that being said, we also understand the prioritization of consistency, quality, and care within a business. I feel as if the managers and staff are disorganized and are failing this business.
We came in and had quite the wait for drinks, in which we could understand that maybe the staff were busy so we waited patiently. Once our cocktails came, we were still waiting for water for our table, especially the person who was just having water to drink . Our server did not come to check back in and we had to go to the bar to request a pitcher of water, which was still okay and we did not mind much.
Our food came, our server asked how our food was before we had tasted it and never revisited our table. One person in our party ordered a steak rare and it came out medium. After waiting about 5 minutes for our server we asked a person who seemed to be a host or manager to get assistance to which he said "wait a sec" and never returned. We eventually flagged our server down and she was on top of fixing the steak, at this point it was about 20 minutes later and our table had finished their meals. Another woman came to the table, someone we believe to be a manager or supervisor, and she did not apologize about the issue. Instead she said "How do you want your steak? As rare as possible?". At this time the restaurant had slowed down significantly when the second try at Steak Frites eventually came after quite the wait. The steak was mediocre at best and 3/4 of the plate were fries with no condiments. The quality of the steak was far below average for the price.
When the bills came, they did not adjust price or offer any complimentary adjustments for the lack of service, mix up on the steak, or poor customer service. I had to go track-down the same manager/supervisor woman we had previously spoken to and request it be taken off our bill. In which she replied with excuses instead of an apology, by saying she had not realized we had asked more than one person for assistance.
I am not one to write reviews like this but I did address our issues with the staff and this feels like it should be noted as the employees at the restaurant did not seem...
Read moreI haven't been to Earls for years because every experience has resulted in bad service especially the location on South Albert. The food has always been excellent but servers have always ignored checking in for if we needed additional drinks or food. I was out with a group this evening at the east location and ordered wine after the server first said it was half price wine and when I pointed out that it was Wednesday not Tuesday she corrected herself to say it was half priced glasses on Wednesday. She bought our drinks fairly quickly and then disappeared for a while finally came back for our orders and then we waited a long time on a very not busy evening for our food. Finally it came. We were not asked how the meals were or if we needed anything else until after we had all finished eating for a while. Finally asked at the end to one end of a very large table if anyone wanted dessert or anything else could barely hear her. When the bills were finally bought I was charged full price for the wine. When she came back after I pointed this out I was still looking at a different price than what I was told. I would probably only have ordered one glass if I has know as the prices are already pretty pricey. My impression this time was that either the servers are very badly trained or they only want to serve tables that order lots of drinks which happened last time I was at Earls south. I again was disappointed. I can only say that compared to the lakeshore which I was at last week where the service was amazingly and the food was also amazing it is hands down a better experience. It wasn't perfect ie (the house wine wasn't so good but it was priced accordingly) and the bathrooms need an upgrade but the service won hands down over Earls disapointing bad service. I was so sad to be...
Read moreI had just drinks and yam fries on the patio at earls a couple of weeks ago. I waited to post a review until I had really thought it over. First of all the sangria was extremely mediocre. But that isn’t my complaint or concern with this restaurant. I told my server I needed gluten free yam fries. They are listed as such on their menu while other fries are not. She didn’t ask if it was for an allergy or not. I didn’t offer the information. I thought specifically asking for gluten free was sufficient. As I got to the bottom of the bowl, which was fairly deep and skinny so you couldn’t see the bottom from the start, I found other regular fries nestled in with my yam fries. I then was suspicious that they were not gluten free at all. It turns out that they were not gluten free. I was sick for 2 days. Since I do all the cooking in my house and the only thing I had that was different was the food at earls i know without a doubt that it was their yam fries that caused the reaction. When I sent an email to earls, they apologized, had the manager call me who also apologized but then also put it back on me that I should have said I had an allergy. I don’t agree. If you say you need gluten free it should then be up to the server to ask if it is because of an allergy. Anyway, the only offer that the manager made was that she could come to my table and introduce herself the next time I came in. Why am I coming in again?! To see if they can actually get it right this time and if they don’t spend the next 2 days being sick?! The manager claimed that all their fries were made in a dedicated gluten free fryer. If that was the case, why are only some of them gluten free on the menu? I can assure you that my fries were not cooked in a gluten free fryer. I will never eat at this...
