I chose this Holiday Inn Express because it was affordable and was close to the airport. Since my flight came in late and the next day's flight left in the morning, I didn't need much except one night's sleep.
Evening staff were great: friendly, helpful, let me know about the free breakfast and free shuttle. Breakfast was very simple but decent, given that it was included in the room price.
However, there was a weird mechanical banging noise coming from the ceiling of my bathroom. I had noticed the mechanical banging noise briefly when I arrived, but assumed it was just someone slamming the door down the hall or another temporary noise; I was too tired to investigate.
At around 4 am, however, the banging happened again and was loud enough to wake me up, despite my ambient sound machine being turned up. It only lasted a minute or so, but I couldn't get back to sleep.
As I was packing up in the morning, I heard the noise again. This time, I was close enough to the bathroom door to take out my iPhone and record it. I played it for the morning staff when I checked out, after I paid. I didn't expect compensation, but said I wanted them to know that it was loud enough to wake me up, and that I wasn't able to get back to sleep.
What I found disappointing: there was NO apology or expression of sympathy, just a nod (after listening to my recording) and saying they would make a note of it. I have no idea if the problem would be fixed or not. If there were customers waiting behind me in line, I would have assumed staff were just super-busy or distracted. But there were two on staff, and I was the only person checking out.
Since this hotel has received many excellent reviews, however, I'm assuming the noise issue may have been just my room. Tech/building issues happen. If the morning staff had been at all sympathetic (I honestly wasn't expecting any compensation), I may have still come back to this hotel, and would just avoid that particular room. My experience with Holiday Inn hotels before the pandemic have always been relatively good.
My checkout experience, however, was enough that I will seek out a different hotel next time since there are so many others to...
Read moreWe stayed here prior to a cruise. We got into the airport in the early evening after a long day of traveling. We called via cell phone for the shuttle and found out that it runs about every half hour. Note there is a phone at the shuttle pick up location for calling the hotels in the area. The front desk was very friendly and checking was a breeze. Btw our shuttle driver was great and very informative. He gave us great advice on the area. The room was very clean with decent linens. It did have a huge balcony that was a little difficult to open the door to. The hotel is next to Costco so we went there and enjoyed a quick inexpensive evening meal of delicious poutine and chicken strips which we don’t have in the Costco in the USA. We slept well and had a good complementary breakfast there at the hotel. The coffee was good. After an easy check out we walked with our luggage to the train station on good sidewalks all the way. It was about a 1/3 of a mile. With the train to the cruise port we would probably stayed closer to the train station, but we didn’t know this when we booked hotels. It was still a doable walk with good luggage. We had not planned on walking until we found out how close the train station was to the hotel. Bottom line- we would...
Read moreI have stayed at this hotel several times and have been happy with the value and service. I normally have one or two travelers with me on my trips. The hotel is convenient to the airport and normally has a shuttle. On previous stays my rate has been in the $300.00 to $350.00 range.
I made my last reservation 3 days before my stay and the rate on the website was just over $400.00 with taxes.
When I checked out, I was charged $605.00. When I questioned the rate thinking it was in error the desk attendant just told me that is the rate. not very helpful.
I had not look at my email confirmation since i know the hotel and location and when I did it was at the exorbitant $605.00 rate. not looking at my confirmation is on me. what is not on me is charging $605.00 for one night at a Holiday Inn Express. It is not a Crown Plaza it is a Holiday Inn Express. you should be ashamed of this service. I stayed at this location for convenience. there other brands in the area at$270.00 to $350.00. I was by myself on this stay but I normally a couple other people travel with me when I go through Vancouver.
You can be assured I will not be staying at this location in the future. This is the worst value I have ever experienced with a...
