My wife and I have visited the Night Cafe twice now in the last month. The first time the guest musician playing caught our attention on their website and we decided to do a "date night!" We booked a hotel for one night, travelled 90 minutes, spent the day in the community and had a supper reservation for 5:00pm at the Cafe with the musician, Pierre Bensusan starting right at 7:00pm. The warm welcome by staff person Jenna and the intimate atmosphere impressed us immediately. We had our choice of tables at that time and chose to sit directly in front of where the musician would play. Our waiter was Corbin. He was kind, helpful and made us both feel welcome and appreciated. Although at this time the restaurant was not busy, there didn't seem to be many staff around and our food order did take a long time to arrive. I ordered the Smoke Beef Dip which was very good but seemed a bit light on the quantity of beef. The Kale Caesar Side Salad was to die for; fresh, tasty and lots of it. Linda had the Veggie-Saurus Pizza which we both enjoyed very much! The staff that were present on this evening were kept hoping busy but remained professional, friendly and helpful. Although the service seemed slow, we patiently settled into the overall experience, appreciating the ambience, feel of community and the intimacy of the place. At the end of the evening I approached Corbin to pay our bill. He saw the tip we were leaving on the machine and turned to me, looked me in the eye and said, "thank you very much. We all appreciate your support." You have to love sincerity like that! All in all, even though we live a distance away, the Night Cafe feels like our go to place!
Last evening was "date night two" for us at the Cafe! The main musician was Ivan Hartle from Vancouver with his three band mates. Again we had reserved a table for 5:00pm with the band starting at 7:00pm. Jenna welcomed us and even greeted us by name (she is just that type of person and the Cafe is just that type of place!) Corbin (golly I hope I have your name correct!) was our waiter and on this visit there were many more staff than our first time around but we were pleased to have Corbin again. We ordered the Veggie Pizza again and tried the Grilled Prawn Ceviche. Our food order came a bit faster this time although it was again a bustling, busy place. Both dishes were delicious and perfect for the two of us to share. If you are looking for fast, unhealthy food, possibly try somewhere else! Ivan and the band were outstanding and a pleasure to support.
Meikle Studios and the Night Cafe are the same place and on this occasion, while supper and the band were playing, we noticed back behind us a man (I think it was Allen) painting. My wife being an aspiring artist went over and as was typical of our experience here, he was kind, accommodating and offered words of encouragement to her.

I have such a spot in my heart for a family run business and this one is truly endearing. I'm used to a friendly, down-to-earth experience, but the care for food is matched by the care for the people here.
The beef dip we ordered had absolutely fantastic flavors and the quality of ingredients was amazing. The beef was tender and the au jus was packed with flavor!
Beyond the food, seating was comfy and the live music was such a lovely addition to the evening. Not only live but talented artists too! Even the noise level was approachable as it felt buzzing but not overwhelming, making it easy to chat or enjoy the ambience.
