PLEASE DON’T leave B.C without stopping here.
Partner and I had dinner at The Peppercorn an hour before they were closing and honestly I couldn’t find a single thing to complain about.
We ordered the coconut rice, butter chicken pasta, coconut chicken, potato naan, and diet Coke. The total for two people, before taxes and tip came up to $54.00.
We’ve been in B.C for a few days now and for some reason we struggled to find a place that was appropriately priced, where the food was great, or at the very least above average, and where we left feeling happy about giving more than the standard tip. The Peppercorn Club exceeded all expectations and it’s too bad we weren’t able to stay another day, because I would have definitely tried their breakfast menu.
The staff were super kind, even offered tips on places we could visit on our way to Banff, food hit the spot and you can tell a lot of effort and love went into the dishes we ordered. Also, they were able to take something simple like garlic bread , which came with the butter chicken pasta, and managed to turn that into one of the highlights of our dinner. Highly recommend dipping the garlic bread into the coconut chicken, if you feel like getting wild.
This restaurant should definitely be on every person’s list of places to visit while in B.C , it’s worth the trip and money! I suggest folks order a variety of dishes from the menu so you get the most out of...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking forward to some good Indian food tonight, but were rather disappointed.
First off, I will say the staff I dealt with were polite and prompt in helping me when I ordered over the phone and arrived to pick it up.
Relating to the food, we ordered butter chicken, rice, and garlic naan. Starting with the rice, it was cooked appropriately, no issue there.
The garlic naan was bland, excessively oily, mostly burnt on one side, and unevenly thick.
Lastly, the butter chicken was just not butter chicken, frankly. The chicken itself didn’t seem to be marinated or spiced before being put in the sauce, was over cooked, and tough (likely not stewed or cooked with the sauce). The sauce was bland and tasted as if it was comprised of canned tomato products (tomato paste, crushed tomatoes) and had a raw canned tomato taste. We ordered medium spice, but it had no heat at all and my wife’s dish had some sort of flower or leaf that looks like it isn’t meant to be eaten (similar idea to a bay leaf) that tasted awful.
Overall, our meal was inedible. I hope this was a one off incident because we previously enjoyed the Bombay Grill. I’m not sure we’ll be back...
Read moreMy fiancé and I went out for dinner and chose Rangoli as we had not been there yet. We were served warm water. The $15.50 vegetarian "platter" that was supposed to come with a "variety" of chutneys consisted of: 3 pieces of paneer pakora, 4 pieces of veggie pakora, 1 samosa and 1 chutney. The naan needed salt and was a little burnt. The chicken korma was decent but the flavour was lacking. The chilli chicken was inedible. It was undercooked vegetables and some chicken swimming in a thin red sauce that had no flavour. It was inedible. We told the server and she just smiled and nodded her head. The next time she came around we advised we would not be eating this dish. She asked if we wanted something else, but we did not have time to wait. When we went to pay, the chilli chicken was on the bill and we asked to have it taken off. The server went to the kitchen for a few moments and when she came back she did take it off. Then she started trying to explain away the dish saying that Indo Chinese is different than Indian....neither my fiancé nor I have ever had such a poorly executed chilli chicken. It is one of our favourite dishes and we were so...
