This was our third time staying at the Cedar Vista motel, and were surprised but also delighted to meet the new owners of the motel. They were incredibly welcoming and polite to our arrival. Theres a lot I can say about how well they treated us, and as well about the overall advantage this motel has location wise versus some of the other motels in the area.
One of our main reasoning for always staying at the cedar vista is because we don't want to be in the dead centre of the town and where the cedar vista sits is in the best spot as its in walking distance and theres ample parking.
The overall property has been kept very clean over the many months since we last stayed here and the rooms for the most part remain the same with a few nice changes.
The most notable change was the new inclusion of HD 40" TVs which if you ask the front desk they will provide you with an HDMi cable to connect your devices. I might have been the first customer to ask for this, and the owners were more than helpful in finding one of them for me which made our stay even better. The inclusion of new power bars with surge protection and USB cable inputs was also nice too.
I have to say that I'm sure the previous owners of the motel would be proud to see how the Cedar Vista name is being carried by Wendy & Jerry. We most definitely plan to stay next summer and even the summer after. I've been told that they plan to introduce Microwaves into the individual rooms which is also very smart as depending on your comfortability with eating in town or not, you can bring your takeout to your room, heat it up and go enjoy it in the large property that lies behind the motel with many picnic tables. There is also a large fire pit and barbecues to use as well, we did not use it but we saw Wendy & Jerry helping other people that were staying the night with the barbecue.
Overall a very very pleasant stay and I have no negatives to bring up with our experience. So far it's getting better every...
Read moreHow to start ? One complete cluster F . I really try to be fair , so if you doubt the below go look at my other reviews . I don't get compensation from anyone or anyplace and just try to be honest about where we eat , stay and visit Booked thru Booking.com , the hotel was contacted 3 weeks prior to date to confirm. The person(s) spoken too seemed to have no clue how to check and confirm the booking but eventually with a return call the booking was confirmed. Upon arrival we got told we had canceled on July 2nd ( didn't happen) and a long protracted wait and conversation occurred. Having paid by Credit Card we were potentially victims of a Fraud, an offer was made to contact the OPP to attend and help sort out the mess. The claimed cancelation e mail couldn't be produced and even the email address not on offer. After a long and protracted conversation the two booked rooms were provided and we had a place to stay. The rooms , some attempts have been made to modernize the hotel and units. New exterior siding and new A/C units, the room doors all had peeling paint . Inside the carpets were desperately in need of replacement. The bathroom and shower while cleaned needed love. I'm no Howie Mandel germaphobe but we went to The Foodland and got a bleach spray and Febreeze. The bedding was clean and a check of the mattresses found no pets. Fridge worked . Overall a good solid 1 star and through work I've seen some 0's . A place to sleep and not much more . I could provide more info about our cancelation but some would be speculation, I can say though that booking.com was apparently contacted by the hotel July 2nd and informed the property was closing indefinitely and perhaps permanently. Could be a decent little Motel with some more owner investment, the bright point of the hotel was the counter person George/Jerry he was just a character. Took the edge off a situation where we were 3 hours from no where with no...
Read moreI don't want to hurt someone's business, but I need to be honest. If you're considering staying here, especially in the 3-bedroom cabin - based on our experience, I would recommend that you look elsewhere. We had a few serious issues when we stayed here recently.
For one, all the curtains of the cabin are see-through, so there's no privacy. At night, its very easy for someone to see in.
Two, the cabin is connected to the main office only through a door. The owners were very loud in their office until 10-11pm; one of the nights they were yelling until that hour. There was swearing too. We couldn't use the 3rd bedroom in the house because of that; it was just too loud.
We shared our feedback with the owner, and he was kind and receptive - apologized, and said that he would be making the necessary changes. So, I truly hope he does. But I wouldn't feel right not sharing our experience for others who are thinking of staying here in the near future.
Overall, the place seems like it has potential - but the photos you see of it online are very outdated. The place feels a bit unkept, and I don't think the cleaning standard is top-notch. I found some garbage belonging to other people under one of the beds. It would be one thing if this was a super budget place (and even then some of these things wouldn't be ok) but its not - we paid a pretty penny to stay here, and I found out that we could have stayed at nicer cottages for cheaper, and not had the...
