What is better than a flavourful, authentic-tasting taco from the side of a street, or a food truck? Not much! Unfortunately Tacomory, a cool little food truck with great branding failed to live up to my expectations. The service was friendly and the food was served in a reasonably timely manner given how busy they were. They had vegetarian options.
While the service and concept are great, the food left much to be desired. I had the pulled pork taco, shredded chicken and then aloha taco. All were BLAND. The flavours lacked any dimension. They did have some hot sauces available but a taco should be able to hold its own without hot sauce. The salsa they serve tastes like the El Paso Taco chips were similar in quality. brand that you can get in any given grocery store. Given their size and lack of flavour, I found they were actually quite pricey. (Admittedly, I don't know the cost of food in this area so perhaps their prices are fair).
Finally and most importantly, the tacos specify that they are in a CORN TORTILLA. It was obvious in taste and appearance that the tacos we were served used FLOUR tortillas. Corn tortillas are my preference however anyone with a legitimate requirement for gluten-free should beware as the tortilla change-up wasn't mentioned to us at the time of ordering.
Do I recommend Tacomory? Kind of - if you do go, set expectations lower and you'll be satisfied. I also think it's important to support these small local businesses - especially those in areas with short tourist seasons. If you're hungry - go, but don't expect high quality or...
Read moreWas very excited to try this truck when visiting locally but ultimately was expensive relative to portions (ESPECIALLY for a food truck) and pretty bland. Had the pork carnita and chicken taco with the “chip” sides as well as a kids quesadilla.
Tacos barely had any spices. Their “taco sauce” was ok but passable as a sour cream addition. Protein was cooked well but pretty much zero seasoning and flavour. Also, any respectable taco joint I would have assumed to at least use a corn tortilla with bonus points for house made. Not the case on both. May as well been Old El Paso tortillas at No Frills.
The kids quesadillas were a joke really. Literally the size of my palm with some cheese in the middle and a few store bought tortilla chips on the side. That’s $9. 🤯
Was expecting much more and dropped $40 for what was basically a snack.
Too bad I really did have high hopes and had this been priced better based on the ingredients used, rating would be higher- but charging this much for something I or anyone else can make at home quite easily is very...
Read moreSo before I go adding my two cents about the food, I will say that the staff seem like really great folks and the wait time to order and get the food was kind of long but not totally unreasonable given it was a bit busy. However, the food was just... Meh. They had the makings of some awesome tacos and nachos but we got the chicken and veggie tacos and chicken nachos and the flavour was just simply not there. And it everything was COLD ❄ as if it was in the fridge. I'm not sure if we just went on super busy day/time and they were just trying push orders quickly and skipped the heating up part. But considering the wait time and how easy/fast it would be to throw pulled chicken/pork or sweet potatoes on grill (on even the microwave if not grill) we were super disappointed. Of course it wasn't bad food it just wasn't great as one would expect from a taco stand. Sorry guys, but I will try again next time we go hiking three hours this way to see if we just went...
