Went here with the office for our annual party and I expected decent food. We went with the party menu which was set with shared apps and a choice of 4 different mains.

From the time we sat down, our server at the bar appeared frazzled and took forever to get drinks set, made and served. I tried the Italian Greyhound for my first drink, not only did it take 30 minutes to get to me, it came with 4 extra fruit flies on it.

I twitted about it and was asked to DM so that they could speak to the management about it.

After about an hour or so of waiting for all of our coworkers to get there, we then headed downstairs into the private room which I have to say have one of the coolest decor/ambiance I have been in.

They started to serve the Palenta fries which was shared between everyone. It was alright, bland and the marinara dip tasted like something you could get from Loblaws.

The second starter they served was the pizza. The crust was good, but if you eat the pizza with the toppings you will be met with the saltiest things ever. So... needless to stay, I just ate the crust.

The third starter was a platter of mini meatballs, tiger shrimps and the risotto balls which was basically an upscale cafeteria food.

For an Italian place, the meatballs tasted like a frozen dinner meatloaf rolled up into little balls.

Next served was the salad and the tomato and cheese appetizer. These 2 I believe was the only ones I was able to eat with no problem although I think the salt that tomato/cheese app needed all was put into the Pizza.

The mixed mushroom appetizer came next and was ok. It seemed fresh and was nice.

For the main, I chose the Fettucine, which came with Shrimps, pesto, mascarpone cheese and a touch of tomato sauce.

I won't hold back on my review because honestly, for an upscale place, I was hoping to be blown away. The pasta was WAY overdone, there was a mixture of frozen package shrimps and the tiger shrimps so the cook on both were totally off. I think that I would have had a better tasting pasta from the cooked food section of a Loblaws. I could not, for the love of God eat more than a bite full of this "italian pasta".

The Chef's selection of deserts however was good. I think aside from the deserts, decor and the people I was with, nothing else was good.

At the end of the night, I had to go grab dinner at Sushi Inn just so that I could have a proper Dinner.

Unfortunately, coming here with expectations and only being underwhelmed was a very big disappointment to me and my friends. I would hope that in the future, they taste their food prior to serving them to their patrons.

Food Score: Palenta Fries: 2/5 Pizza: 0.5/5 Polpettine/Mini Meatballs: 0/5 Arancini/Risotto Balls: 1/5 Shrimp Diavola: 2/5 Salad: 3/5 Caprese/Cheese&mozarella: 2/5 Funghi/Mushrooms:...

I recently visited Cibo Yorkville with high hopes, especially since we received a $25 voucher and were eager to give the restaurant a try. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing, primarily due to the unprofessional service and lackluster food.

From the moment we walked in, the customer service was disheartening. Despite the restaurant having plenty of empty tables, the hostess seemed visibly annoyed that we did not have a reservation. Her dismissive attitude immediately made us feel unwelcome.

Once seated, we asked our server for the happy hour menu. Instead of responding courteously, they abruptly grabbed the regular menus and tossed the happy hour menus onto our table without a word. This dismissive gesture set the tone for the rest of the evening.

When our food arrived, the server simply placed the plates on the table without any acknowledgment, not even a basic "Enjoy" or "Here you go." Throughout the meal, we were not checked on once. No refills, no inquiries about how the food was—just complete indifference.

The final disappointment came when we presented the $25 voucher. Rather than handling it with basic courtesy, the server's only response was to ask how much we planned to tip him. This unprofessional comment left a sour taste, especially considering the subpar service we received.

As for the food—it was average at best. Given the poor service, the underwhelming flavours and floppy pizza made the experience feel even more disappointing.

Overall, Cibo failed to meet even the most basic expectations of hospitality. Rude service, disinterest from the staff, and forgettable food made for an entirely unsatisfactory visit.

UPDATE: I returned in another visit to the restaurant to use the $25 voucher that a friend of mine had and they declined us to use it even though we expressed that we used it before at this exact location. The manager was very dismissive and just said we couldn't use it without an explanation as to why except for "we're not taking it off". This makes it even more disappointing as the food and service was always subpar. Again the staff at this restaurant are so unbelievably rude and that starts from the manager all the way to the servers and hostess. Overall, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this...

I have been coming to CIBO Wine Bar since it opened at 133 Yorkville. This place has hosted other restaurants in the past but I have to say CIBO has captured the essence of Italian dining and food, (CIBO in Italian means food - so it’s a perfect translation). A couple of weeks ago a coworker and myself went to CIBO for polenta fries, pizza and a couple of glasses of wine - Christian transported us to Italy and the service was out of this world!! The food is authentically Italian and when I went by earlier today I saw the chef actually making pasta downstairs - doesn’t get any more fresh than that!!

I have had the pleasure of dealing with their manager, Mirko, and he has been extremely hospitable and accommodating with our business requests. The two private dining rooms downstairs are incredible for meetings and events where you require a little privacy and top notch service is a standard!

They have a patio outside to enjoy the summer weather in Yorkville and it’s conveniently located in the heart of this trendy, fashionable and culinary epicentre. Whether you’re a local or visiting Toronto, if you want to experience really great tasting Italian food in an atmosphere that resembles an eatery in the Mediterranean, CIBO Wine Bar has my highest recommendation.

Update October, 2024. If there is a business meeting or someone we want to feel pampered with customer service … we go to CIBO, both Yorkville and King Street locations. Sean and Steve had their wedding dinner at the King Street location, Chef Amit and his team made their night extra special - huge thank you! ❤️🍽️

This past weekend Tami visited and we celebrated my birthday at CIBO … again, next level and hospitality PLUS. We had the polenta fries OMG - best ever, we both agreed! Split the chicken, mushroom (porcini) fusilli - delicious!! Mmm I’ll order it again. The birthday cake was a decadent treat and worth every wish! Incredible to be treated so friendly by the whole team, always pleasant and authentic. Thank you for making my b-day extra sweet!! ❤️🎂. CIBO offers a charming blend of cozy, casual, and elegant ambiance, making it suitable for a variety of dining occasions. Despite being kid-friendly, our visit remained undisturbed, ensuring a relaxing atmosphere. However, the seating arrangements on the top floor felt cramped, especially during busier hours, which created a somewhat enclosed feel. The service was prompt and professional. We were quickly seated upon arrival, and our server demonstrated a fine balance between attentiveness and respecting our privacy, ensuring an enjoyable dining experience. For drinks, we tried the Peach Sangria with white wine, which was both refreshing and flavorful. Our appetizer, the Grilled Octopus, featured a visually appealing presentation with purple potatoes that enhanced its flavor. However, the octopus was slightly overcooked and overly charred for my preference, though this may suit some diners’ tastes. For the mains, I had the Seafood Linguine, which was beautifully presented and customized to include more shrimp and calamari instead of clams and mussels. As someone familiar with Italian cuisine, I found the pasta exceptionally well-prepared and flavorful. My friend chose the Spaghetti Carbonara, which was flavorful but had a strong egg aroma that caused some discomfort afterward. To conclude the meal, we shared the Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta. While the presentation was elegant, the texture could have been smoother for a more refined finish. Overall, CIBO delivers a satisfying dining experience with its inviting ambiance, attentive service, and flavorful dishes. While there are areas for improvement, such as seating and textural details in certain dishes, it remains a solid choice for Italian dining.
