5th time visiting and my rating stands at 4.85/5... Amal never fails. Its by far one of Toronto's most consistent restaurant and well deserving of the michellin stars they have earned. I like to consider myself a pretty big foodie and i have to say the food at Amal is fantastic. We started with the sampler for our app along with tabbouleh salad. Sampler consist of three dips and the baked bread + pita. The baked bread is out of this world. For the sampler we chose the hummus, the muhammara and the labneh. All 3 were the best ive ever had from any middle eastern restaurant. The salad was so fresh and i highly recommend it if you like salads. For the main course we ordered chicken tawook skewer along with lamb chops. The chicken was perfectly cooked. Beautifully chared on the outside, cooked to perfection on the inside. Nice juicy chicken breast that could not be cooked any better in my opinion. The lamb chops could use some more salt for flavoring and they should come cut into 4 pieces as opposed to 2 big pieces so its easier. They dont cut it into 4 pieces but they do give you a knife if you would like to cut it into 4. However our waiter was amazing and cut it table side for us. I recommend a medium well cook on the lamb as they do cook their lamb a bit under what you ask for. We had sides with our meal and they were pretty good as well, the fries could use a little work but were still good, the rice was really good. Now that ive raved about the food let me tell you about the service at Amal. 10/10 service. From the reservation desk to walking out the restaurant post meal. They do not miss. The table is attended to by everyone, different servers, managers, gms, bar crew and anyone else thats there. Geniune care and service. Fantastic job for everyone that works there, you really know how to provide great service. Now for the atmoshphere and decor of the place, words truly can not do the interior decorating justice. This place is gorgeous and it is a must visit. From the little things like the fingerling potatos that come with the lamb to the service and the food, nothing here misses. They even went out of their way to bring us chillies to the table because we asked for spicy and they told us they cannot do it but still brought out sonething they thought would help make our experience better. If you have not tried Amal you are missing out. This place is a gem in Toronto. 4.85 and not a 5 because the lamb could be cooked better and seasoned better, the fries could be better, and a little spice accomadation wpuld have this place at a 5. Update: Visited Feb 5, 2024 for dinner and had a great time. Again the food was excellent. Had the same three dips as in my previous visit, and for mains we shared the red snapper, octopus, kefta kebab. For dessert we had the rice pudding and kanafeh. Service was excellent this time. I would go back again. Original: Overall I enjoyed my experience and left feeling well fed. I went with a friend here for lunch. The Good: The food was done really well. We ordered the three dip sampler as a starter and the Kefta Kebab for my main. For the three dips we had the hummus, labneh, bana ghanoush, and muhammara (yes four dips are listed more on this later!). The best was the muhammara followed by the labneh. The hummus was not special to me and the baba ghanoush irritated my tongue (not always true when I have this dish). The Kefta Kebab was next level. So tender, so favourable. I normally dislike lamb but this dish had none of the gaminess that I dislike. I wish I had more than the two pieces. I would definitely order this again. If I didn't have the dips, this dish would stand perfectly on its own -- with the dips I was too full to finish the fries. I also wonder if instead of hummus this dish would be better paired with labneh or toum. Service was friendly and attentive. Ambience was beautiful. Clientele is classically Yorkville which can be enjoyable or insufferable depending on your mood / disposition. The Not as Good: Little errors appeared throughout the meal. For example we received the incorrect dip sampler which is why we ended up with four dips. In the baba ghanoush I found a piece of plastic--we flagged to the attention of the server and told him that we did not need a fresh dish, just wanted to bring it to his attention. In the milk for my Americano there was floating little flecks of what appeared to be red fabric. I was also a bit disappointed that there wasn't more corrective action for our bill such as comping one of the coffees ($4) or offering a couple bites of dessert for free or even having the manager come by for a discussion. Conclusion: I enjoyed my experience and would go back to try it again. However, my expectations would be higher and I would expect an outstanding experience the second time.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. The place looks amazing. Perfect for any special occasions but that’s it. We got seated at the booth which was pretty comfortable and nice. Also, it’s pretty noisy. Tables a little close and everyone is just talking loudly over the music. We ordered the skewer platter for two which included pistachio kebabs, fries, beef tenderloin, and chicken. We also ordered fattoush for salad and the Lebanese rice. Pistachio kebab - it was dry and a bit tough to cut Beef tenderloin - was not well done. They gave us 2 that was well done then the other two were medium rare. Had to have it cooked again but still came out pretty pink. We didn’t eat it anymore Chicken - was okay Fattoush - was not that bad. The server recommended this because the others are too small for sharing Lebanese rice - too oily Fries - were ok. Good for sharing For drinks, we both have the secret garden. Sweet with a tiny bit hint of alcohol. It was nice. In terms of service, it was one of the worst we’ve experience. We don’t have a problem with the hostess because we had a reservation and we were escorted to our booth 5 minutes after. But the service that night sucked. It took us half an hour to have the beef tenderloin back to the kitchen. Everyone was too busy to mind us but not busy to ask the next table if they need anything. We lost our appetite waiting for our food to be re grilled. Once our server saw and took our food, she came back with it still pink! We already said we want it well done like the rest. We had high expectations of this place because of the reviews we read and the price. But the ambiance doesn’t compensate to how expensive everything is when they’re not even that good and the terrible service as well. Overall experience, it’s a first time and definitely will be the last. We’d rather go to Byblos for a Middle Eastern cuisine. Almost the same price but so much better.

One of the more memorable and enjoyable meals of the year, Amal has many things going right for it. The ambiance and mood are set the moment you walk in and hear the music and see all of the beautiful people. The cocktails are well designed, my personal favorite had mezcal and tajin spice. The flavours on all of the dishes were recognizable, but well seasoned and advanced in how they were heightened from your everyday shop. The little sausages were strong in flavour, exciting to share (about 7-8pcs per order). The tabbouleh was also acidic and fresh, a great addition of brightness to cut many of the bold and spiced dishes you were about to receive. Most of the dips have a thick mouthfeel as expected so the sharp and lovely salad is almost necessary. Moving on to the chicken shawarma dish, the hummus was wonderful (and plenty) with a generous mound of juicy chicken. When ordering the meats platter to share, be aware that depending on how many apps you order and how many people you have with you, getting the platter for 4 can be overkill, and I would recommend in most cases the platter for 2. The dessert cannot be missed. It was recommended we order the sticky date cake, it did not disappoint. I will admit, when it arrived at the table, our excitement was slightly deflated looking at it, thinking it was going to be dry (as it looked). Wow were we wrong. Without being tacky or gummy, it was the most moist sticky date cake we've had (with the exception of the wonderful $6.00 ones you can buy at Farmboy). Kudos to the pastry chef on this one as it was wonderful. We found ourselves moving our shoulders alot at the table (even us two grown men) as the music sets the vibe of fun, exciting and playful. I will definitely be recommending this restaurant to many going forward.

My recent visit to Amal restaurant in Yorkville was a delightful experience. It was my first time dining there, accompanied by my daughter who had been to the restaurant before. As we arrived, we were greeted by two hostesses at the entrance. One of them, Victoria, impressed us with her excellent service and welcoming attitude. However, the other hostess exhibited a level of rudeness that was quite disappointing We opted to sit at the bar, where we had the pleasure of being served by Corey. Let me tell you, Corey is an extraordinary individual who truly knows how to make guests feel special. His larger than life personality and exceptional hospitality skills created a truly remarkable dining experience. Corey's confidence and attentiveness made us feel valued and well taken care of throughout the evening. His dedication to providing top-notch service was so impressive that I initially mistook him for the owner of the restaurant. Assistant General Manager, Mr. Samir, heard about the incident with the other hostess and quickly took care of the situation. He personally addressed the issue and went above and beyond to ensure that we were not only satisfied but also treated to a complimentary dessert. Mr. Samir's swift action and commitment to resolving the matter showcased the restaurant's dedication to excellent customer service. Overall, my visit to Amal was elevated by Corey's exceptional service and Mr. Samir's attentiveness. While the encounter with the other hostess left something to be desired, the prompt response and complimentary dessert demonstrated the restaurant's dedication to customer satisfaction. I wholeheartedly recommend Amal restaurant, thanks to Corey's outstanding service, swift resolution, and the welcoming ambiance of the establishment.
