I recently tried a pizza place that I’d rate a 3 out of 5. While that’s a decent rating, there were aspects of the experience that left me unimpressed.
The slices here are priced at around $14–$15 each, which feels steep, especially considering the pizza isn't made fresh to order. Instead, it's pre-made, displayed, and then reheated when you order. Personally, I don't think reheated pizza justifies such a high price.
I tried two slices: a pepperoni slice to gauge their standard offering and a burrata slice for something different. The pepperoni pizza was very average — nothing stood out about it, and in my opinion, it was worth no more than half the price. On the other hand, the burrata slice was actually quite good. The burrata was fresh and flavorful, making it the highlight of my visit.
On a positive note, the staff were very friendly, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, great service alone isn’t enough to make me want to return. At $15 per slice, I expect a lot more in terms of freshness and quality. That being said, I’m glad I gave it a shot, as it was my first time trying Roman-style pizza, which was an...
Read morePala 148’s been around for a bit now, tucked away in Yorkville just far enough from the noise.
Dropped in last Friday on the way back from the gym — irony noted. Meant to grab one slice. Ordered two. The usual story.
They’re doing proper Roman-style pizza here: rectangular cuts, airy crust, solid ingredients, no nonsense. Feels like something you’d stumble into near the Vatican — where, yes, slices are usually sold by weight. This felt close.
Both slices hit. Crisp base, clean toppings, a bit oil drizzle as a tribute to Rome.
The lady who's running the counter and the oven is warm and friendly, and, yeah, probably the most charming part of the place. Add that to the list of ingredients no one talks about.
Pro Tip: Nothing beats a Roman pizza in Rome. But until you book that flight and snag a table in Piazza del Duomo in Florence, just hop on the...
Read moreSo I was in Yorkville today with my daughter and we passed by Pala 148, We walked past the window full of pizza and walked right back and into the shop. We got a slice of the potato pizza and the zucchini pizza with speck and ricotta… Let me just say to die for honestly. We just got back from Italy and seriously this was better than Italy’s pizza. The owner and staff were absolutely wonderful and gracious. The owner asked us how we enjoyed the pizza. They are all right from Italy so they do it right. I will definitely be back to enjoy this wonderful tasting pizza. The dough was crispy and delicious the toppings amazing! You gotta eat here. We were sitting outside and everyone passing by would look in and we would say you have to go in and have their pizza. It is absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to go back. It truly does. Remind me of Italy....
