Review:
My husband and I stayed at the Ocean Promenade from August 10th to the 14th, and it was perfect!
We had a wedding that we needed to attend the day of our arrival, which was an hour away. I called the hotel a week prior to our arrival, to request an early check-in; though they could not guarantee it, they said that they would do their best and make a note on our reservation. The day of, I called them in the morning to see if they were able to facilitate an early check-in, and they were able to get us checked in 3 hours before our scheduled time!!
Additionally, we asked if we could find parking in the garage, prior to checking in, and they said that was no problem. Yes, you have to pay for parking, but compared to every other parking space available, we saved a TON of money just parking at the hotel. We also can't express how convenient it was to have a couple of drinks on the promenade and walk to our hotel.
During our booking, I also informed them that this was a belated honeymoon (as we eloped during covid) and they accommodated us by providing a very private room. Our room faced away from the ocean, and busy promenade, towards the back of the building. Our stay was quiet, relaxing, and very peaceful.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the shower pressure...AMAZING. I will add that the room much smaller than we were used to for a hotel at that price range, but you really are paying for the location, more than anything. Additionally, the entire team there from reception, to the house keepers were so friendly, and very helpful!
Overall a solid 8/10, and we would definitely return. Thank you to everyone that made our stay so wonderful and memorable!!! ❤️
Suggestions (to make it 10/10):
Because of the layout, I wish there was some carpet in "boot room" leading to the individual rooms The door that faces the hallways (that says the room number) opens into small boot room (?), which then led to two doors; which is the actual door for your room Because that little room is hardwood flooring, it get very echoey, and leaving that main door open isn't a great option, as it acts as a secondary noise barrier Carpet would prevent the echo that is inevitable when you have four solid walls/doors, and hardwood floors (my husband and I tried our best to be respectful of our neighbours but you can only do so much to stifle the noise of hotel doors lol 😅)
I wished we received a coupon of some sort to try the attached cafe or had it open later for hotel guests only With so many food options, there really wasn't any great motivation to try the cafe attached to the hotel Even a small discount (maybe 10 - 20% for any room booked for 3 night or more?) would have certainly made us more likely to try it. Or if the cafe was open past 10 PM for hotel guests, we would have certainly tried it, as all the restaurants close to the hotel all closed around 10 PM (except for a bar, and my hubby and I didn't really want to try)
Change the layout of the chairs in the King Deluxe rooms (VERY minor, but I wanted to include it) The chairs face the bed (which is a choice LOL), with a small table between them I think it would make the room feel and look much bigger if the chairs faced each other
Travel Tips (based on some of the past reviews) for anywhere you go:
Need an early check-in? Call the hotel ahead of time to see if they can accommodate that, and double-check the day of arrival to ensure it is still possible
Want to ensure a peaceful night sleep? Call the hotel you have reserved with and ask to be placed in a room with the least amount of noise
Can't decide if paid parking at hotel is worth it? Check local parking costs of where you'll be staying to help determine your choice
REMEMBER: A hotel can't guarantee a lot of these kinds of requests, but giving them enough to make arrangements increases your chance of them making it happen. Travel safe...
Read moreWe live in South Surrey, but wanted a change of scenery for the night, as none of us can travel anywhere far and we wanted to keep our dollar in the hyper local economy. We certainly got a change of scenery…. After checking into a $350 a night ocean view spa room (we could have gotten into the Westin Bayshore downtown with a harbour view for the same price!) at 4pm, we noticed there were no robes. No big deal. Called reception. Housekeeping arrived with robes. As they delivered them, my wife noticed sticky fingerprints all over the microwave. She took a look inside the microwave and there was a plate of old, dried food. The embarrassed housekeepers clean it up and left. Half an hour later, at 5pm, I started looking around the room, as you would. The toilet seat and rim was dirty. I cleaned it. My wife found an old aftershave bottle under the sofa. We brushed it off and didn’t want it to spoil our night away any more. It couldn’t get any worse, right? Again, wanted to keep our tourism dollar local, we called Montgomery’s fish and chips and got there at 630 just before they closed on a rainy Saturday evening. Lovely people. In the middle of eating our dinner in the room, I reached to the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard to get a wine glass. Is that a spoon? Lifted it out. Never seen a drug spoon before, but pretty sure this is what it looks like. Blackened underneath, dry white powder on top (see pictures attached). It matched the hotel spoons in the drawer. We were understandably disgusted. We couldn’t get reception to answer the phone, so I said I would calm down, finish my dinner, then go down to speak to them. Went down about 730pm and told receptionist everything that we found and had happened since checking in. She was horrified and said one of the owners was on site and would come speak to me. This older gentleman appeared and I began to tell him all of the above. He was apologetic, at first, but didn’t seem that surprised. He offered a bottle of sparkling wine and a $50 discount (on a $350 room with drug equipment and dirty microwaves and toilet seats)… As they didn’t have any other equivalent rooms, I said I didn’t really want to stay in his hotel any longer and expected a full refund. He completely dismissed this and branded me a freeloader. Believe me, spending a night away from the house with my wife and finding a disgusting room with drugs was not my idea of a fun weekend. I walked away as the conversation was getting heated. We just wanted to go home now but the $350 was sticking in my throat and our son was looking forward to having the house to himself, so we decided to calm down again and stick it out. AT 930pm, I went back to another top cupboard to get another wine glass. For a laugh, I decided to jump up to make sure there were no other surprises…there was. I small clear bag with white crystals in it (see attached). That was the last straw, we had to leave. But, concerned that the owner would claim the drug spoon and drugs were ours, I called the RCMP non-emergency line. However, the person who answered, after hearing my story, said she needed to send an officer. About 1015pm, a Mountie did appear, but seemed completely unmoved by the situation. She shrugged her shoulders, as if this happens all the time at the hotel, and took the drugs and spoon away to be analysed and disposed of. I have a police file # A taxi came about 1030pm. Receptionist and owner hid in a back room as we left. Don't board...
