Unfortunately the parking lot was full, but there was a paid parking area, that was not accessible, it would not let us through, it took our money but did not lift the gate. We needed up parking on the street. The outside of the building is not worth mentioning as it’s not extraordinary, do not let that fool you!! When you walk up the step two large white columns that slightly resemble the white house forefront. You reach out to a large black ornamented door, and the foyer is like walking back in time to a Victorian era, the chandelier is warm and invites the room with the chaise and old style mirror and a tall statue and a burning ( modern gas fireplace) the oak dark brown wood staircase wraps around to the second floor , the hostess greets and attends to you in a professional manner, the room is bright and cozy and a warm lovely white wooden windows lined up across the floor and boughs of holly and silver decorations and Christmas music fills the air. Chandeliers throughout hanging from the ceiling. All different shapes and sizes and glitter and silver and wrought Iron, mirrors placed in all the right corners of the room. You feel as if you have walked back in time to an era of Victorian style fashion.
We went in the evening, but I hear there is a fabulous ocean front view of White Rock Beach.
The menu was designed for a Christmas party and the appetizers and Entree and dessert selections were delicious. I had the Tomato Basil Crab Bisque Then I had the prosciutto and Pesto stuffed cheese Chicken with mashed potatoes, and vegetables, for dessert Peanut Butter slice creamy and deliciously sweet.
The restroom was clean and compact and well maintained. I love the white marble countertop and the table to put your clutch on while washing your hands. My only suggestion would be to cut a hole in the countertop to dispose the paper towels , so that the customer does not need to look for the wastebasket.
Danny was our server and she was professional and friendly and cheerful . I highly, recommend boutique style restaurant.
Will definitely go back. $$$ Paid and not paid parking Reservations recommended Website, easy to...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite BC restaurants but I was highly disappointed when I went for my BDay last week. I feel like their regular staff must not have been in the kitchen because I have never had a bad meal there and we used to go at least once a month. I even ordered my mom her mothers day meal to go from here (during covid) as it has a special place in my heart.
I recently moved to MB so I was super excited to have seafood filled meal while having a beautiful view of the ocean and their solarium is gorgeous! As usual when I made reservations I was told that the solarium is not guaranteed, I explained it was my birthday and I no longer live here so if it was all possible I would be very appreciative. Unfortunately we were seated in the booth furthest from the beach as possible, the manager did offer to re-seat us into the solarium after the table before us left but we were already settled and opted not to move. When reserving I had also requested a booster seat which I had to ask for again as it was not at the table or offered when we were seated. They gladly rushed the kids menu meal out but the Alfredo was very bland and even our boy requested salt as it was basically butter on noodles. My sister had the tofu & Brussels sprouts appy which was amazing, even our 5 yr old enjoyed it. My mom got the seafood hot pot, a staple that never disappoints, but the ahi tuna which used to be my favorite was extremely bland and boring and I felt bad for recommending it to my partner. I ordered the special, a bacon wrapped halibut filet with seasonal veggies rice and prawns. The prawns were done perfectly but the halibut was very dry, fortunately the compote that it was served with added some flavor but over all I was very disappointed. The manager was very welcoming and was happy to have us go into the solarium to take some family photos before we left which I greatly appreciated but it was definitely not what I remembered and I hope they can get back to that...
Read moreOrdered Chicken Stuffed with Goat Cheese in a Tarragon Sauce. Came with mashed potatoes, green beans and corn. Food was very great. Best meal I had on this trip. The portion was large. I ate about half and took the rest home. Tarragon sauce was the subtly perfect addition to the potatoes and goat-cheese stuffed chicken. The goat cheese inside was a perfectly rich and delicious addition to the rest of this dish. We shared a Creme Brule (Vanilla, Lemon - flavour was nice and consistency was perfect). Our server was great. She was especially good at looping back for drinks and checking in. The only reason I gave this review less than 5 stars for everything is because it was VERY warm inside when we arrived(before Sunset)-it was also 28 dsgrees out on the day we went. No AC inside, so if you can't handle warmth, simply plan to go for a later dinner after sunset. Recommend a reservation as this place is popular. They do have the windows open and fans running inside, but the air didn't really move until the sun went down. Lastly, the history of the older building (updated except for AC), was very interesting. Positives: -Food was delicious. Fellow diners agreed (Braised Short Ribs & Butternut Squash Ravioli-they enjoyed theirs. Braised short rib was perfectly tender and soft) -Great Service -Nice ambiance and decor (except heat) -Paid Parking available for $5 for evening directly behind restaurant, making parking here stress free. Beach access on other side of parking lot. -View of Ocean available at most tables towards back windows of restaurant. -Historical value -Close to beachwalk
Considerations: -Heat -Possible Accessibility challenge - From what I saw, stairs were how you access this resturant. I could be wrong, but suggest you call ahead if a any diners in your party are on wheels.
Overall, recommend!...
