The best fish and chips restaurant on east beach in White Rock BC., if not the best in the whole of White Rock and South Surrey!Take out is a treat but the seating area inside is dark and in much need of repair and updating. My standard order is halibut and chips with their home made tartar sauce. The more popular in general and costing a little less is cod and chips. But for me the taste of cod is more fishy and the halibut less so, with a far milder taste, which I prefer. Also other sea related foods on the menu as well as hamburgers. Portions are very large and for many one order is more than enough for two people. Price is quite comparable to other fish and chip places on the strip. Each order is cooked fresh and so there is a 10 to 15 minute wait. I just call ahead and order is ready when I arrive so I avoid the line-up and waiting time. Service is always friendly. Another advantage is that line-ups are a lot shorter than those of its better known fish and chips neighbour. I have eaten at that place a couple of times and was not particularly impressed. I far prefer the taste of Coney Island fodder. There are a couple of small tables out front, but not the best location to eat because of the constant noise and exhaust fumes from the never ending stream of cars. So do what White Rock people do, which is cross the road and railway line and sit at one of the many concrete picnic tables and benches and enjoy the sea view. Word of warning though eating there can attract the attention of the locals who can be very assertive and persistent. I mean the seagulls of course. Can be helpful to put some cover over your meal. You will want to put malt vinegar (no white please), salt and tartar source. You will not want to add the occasional droppings from heaven, courtesy of the flying friends. But please, please, do not feed the seagulls. While it might appear to be a fun thing to do, it attracts a tremendous number of seagulls who, when done, hang around and harass those sitting at picnic tables close by. So please be considerate of...

Ordered 2pc f&c for hubby, 1pc f&c for me, and a coke each. Waited well over 20mins for food, but i could forgive that given the place was full and only 1 waitress on staff, who was the owner's daughter on her first shift.
Our drinks never came. Glad we never got the cokes cos it turns out they are in cans (fine) and are $2.75 each (what???)! Finally managed to get the waitress' attention and asked for/got ice water.
Fries were really good. Not salted, which i like as i can salt to my taste. But these didn't need salt - very nicely done.
The fish was purportedly cod (tho the menu didn't actually SAY that) but i swear it was pollock. Asked the owner what kind it was and he said pacific cod...did not taste at all like any cod we had ever eaten, nor was did it have the texture or flake of cod. Hubby ate 1 and a bit pieces and i had about 1/3 of mine. The batter was ok but the fish was completely tasteless and, while not gross, was very unappetizing.
We went to pay our bill and the 2 cokes were still on it. So i said "Um, yeah we never got the coke so that shouldn't be on it." She said "oh..." and took them off.
Owner said he is one of 2 places on the east beach that does Halibut, and the only other one uses frozen 4oz fillets. We checked out other places on the way back to our car. They all serve halibut.
Never in my entire life have i left $0.00 tip.
Until tonight.
Will not be going...

Coney Island Fish and Chips in White Rock delivers what it promises—crispy, satisfying fish and chips in a nostalgic seaside setting. We ordered a classic combo of fish, chips, and calamari. The chips were spot-on—crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and the fish was perfectly fried, though I personally would’ve preferred a slightly thicker cut. The calamari, unfortunately, leaned on the greasier side, and could benefit from a lighter touch in the fryer.
Customer service was efficient but quite dry, lacking the warmth or engagement that could elevate the overall experience. There is a modest outdoor seating area next to the shop, though the food might be best enjoyed at the beach nearby.
At $41 for three pieces of fish, the price felt a little steep, but the quality does help justify the occasional splurge. That said, an interior refresh would go a long way—some vintage elements are charming, but other dated fixtures could use a fresh coat of paint or a more thoughtful update. With just a bit more hospitality and atmosphere, this spot could become a standout destination along the White Rock strip.
All in all, a solid fish and chips experience, and worth a...
