Really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in the 4 bed dorms for 4 nights. The hostel is located very close to the main area of San Pedro which was great. The room was very big, with a huge amount of space between bunks. There were also lockers for any valuables which was appreciated. The common area was also really lovely, and the kitchen was small but functional. We had no problems with lack of hot water, as long as you give the sun enough time to heat the water there's not a problem. I also loved the hostels eco friendly approach. ||The rooms are cold at night. We really tried to find a place with a heater within our budget but it seems a room heater will result in a significantly more expensive place. The hostel provided 6 blankets which was absolutely more than enough to keep warm, so I really appreciated that. I slept in light clothes and under 2 of the blankets and was perfectly fine during the night. The WiFi only works in the common area, and if there are a lot of people there it can become slow. Again, this is the desert, we were just happy to have WiFi access to message our family. The WiFi was also strong enough for Netflix and YouTube at times if you're interested. There was a lot of cats at the hostel, so if you don't like cats maybe look elsewhere. Personally I love animals, and found the cats mostly entertaining, however when one of the cats ran into the kitchen and jumped onto a pile of vegetables I was chopping for dinner I did find it a bit annoying. Also one of them ran into our room when we were checking out and we had to try lure it out without waking the other people in our dorm. Funny looking back on it, but mildly annoying at the time. My only real negative about the hostel is the door locks. Having separate locking systems for inside/outside the rooms is fine for a private room, but didn't make sense for the dorms. If our dorm mates got up early to do a tour, the door was left unlocked and half open unless we got up to lock it after them. I think the dorms should really just have a simple key system. ||Overall a great stay. Loved the eco friendly mindset and hope other hostels follow...
Read moreIt's a simple hostel, but it offers all that is necessary for a comfortable stay.||||It has a eco friendly vibe which I really liked.||I stayed at a single room. Great pillow and mattress, I slept so well!||The location is awesome, only 1 block away from the main street.||I only had one "problem", 1 time, which was on a day when I got up at around 3:45am (for the Geyser tour) and there was no water in the taps. It was only one morning though, and I ended up using a bit my drinking water to brush my teeth and wash my face, not the end of the world.||||While I was in town, Chile closed its borders due to Coronavirus, so I decided to go home earlier. The owner was very understanding and only charged me for the nights I stayed.|||| I left Atacama already planning on coming back, and when I do, I'm certainly staying at Hostal Sonchek again.||||I do suggest, however, that they do something about the wi fi. Currently it only works on the common areas, not in the bedrooms. They told me it's because they want to guarantee the peace in the sleeping area, but I don't buy it. It is important that there's wi fi in the...
Read moreHostal Sonceck is an oasis of green and tranquillity, a few blocks away from the main square the Church, excellent value for the money. Located in a privileged position of San Pedro de Atacama, is a quiet place, situated out of the dusty streets of the neighbourhood. You are very nearby to restaurants and other touristic interest points of San Pedro, but safe, quiet and happy. The owner is a very nice lady, helpful and warm with all her guests. The parking provided for my rented car was a treasure in this place, because it is impossible to let your car unattended, so this was an extraordinary bonus. The restaurant Delicias del Carmen is split up by a wall and a window from the courtyard of the hostel. Great dishes, very well appreciated by the tourists, highly recommended as well. I would chose Hostal Sonceck again if I'm coming back to San Pedro de Atacama. Muchas...
