Things I did not like about this hostel:||||1. FOUR old-fashioned, heavy keys required to get in and out through various doors||2. Sometimes no hot water at night - unless you ask for it||3. Beds are old and uncomfortable.||3. Noisy - construction work next door, people nearby and downstairs talking loud and laughing early in the morning and late at night, police sirens at night||4. Breakfast hours not clarified||5. No English spoken - if you’re not fluent in Spanish this is NOT the place for you||6. No help if you need assistance like bus and taxi info, laundry, restaurant tips, tour information, directions||7. Absent owner relies on poorly managed, unprofessional staff - ask guests personal questions and laugh at foreigner Spanish||8. There is a smell in the rooms - maybe from polish used on the wooden floors||9. I asked to use a hairdryer and was told it wasn’t their responsibility to provide hairdryers. I accepted that and purchased a hairdryer. However, a hostel owner should understand that traveling abroad for a long time means you have to watch every inch and pound in your luggage and carrying a hairdryer is a luxury. It’s cold at night and not being able to dry your hair can be a problem. I do not think it is unreasonable to make a few hairdryers available to loan guests. The hairdryer cost $10 – NOT a major expense! ||||I planned to rest in Valdivia and booked 7 nights at this hostel. Obviously I didn’t like much about the accommodation and am still scratching my head about how it got such a high rating on some sights??? It’s not expensive compared to other places in Valdivia - BUT it doesn’t offer much either. The only good thing I can say is the Internet worked. I would have moved but I've been traveling a long time and moving from accommodation to accommodation is exhausting so I toughed it out and stayed for a full 7 nights.||||I sent the owner an e-mail outlining my problems and asking for help - he never responded. Two days later (after I inquired with the booking agent) he came to my room after 10:00 p.m. at night to discuss this. Being in my pajamas, I refused to talk with him.||||Later, I talked to the owner face-to-face and what I took away from the conversation was him basically saying “If you don’t like it here, move to another place.” He did not disagree that my issues were valid but didn't...
Read moreHostel Del Muelle is located at 15min walking distance from Valdivia bus-terminal. The B&B offers pre-WW1 old-fashioned rooms. It is an elder building. At ground floor you find a living room where breakfast is served. In the kitchen you can ask for coffee & tea. Friendly kitchen staff but don’t expect any English.||||We had a modest room at the first floor at street-side. The old furnished & decorated room had two single beds and one small twin-bed, with a surprisingly good mattress. TV on the wall, cabinet cupboard and no wardrobe. A separate bathroom with toilet, washbasin and shower over a micro bath. All was clean. ||||We found Del Muelle a practical hostel, and we had an OK stay. Recommended...
Si,...
