The CitiGO Hotel is on a road that I would say is the equivalent of Oxford Street in London and is just inside the walking area but only 200 yards from the subway. It is the most perfect location. |The street is beautifully decorated and the lights at night are magical. It feels totally safe. It’s clean and vibrant with great food! |We walked all the way to the forbidden city from the hotel and there is so much to see on the way. The people were lovely. Very friendly and welcoming. They loved seeing our children and we felt like rockstars as everyone wanted a picture. |Prices for food and transportation are still low, even in this up-market location. We explored loads of other areas like the old town, the great wall (obviously), the Olympic park and many other places and if you cant tell, we fell in love with Beijing, its an amazing place. ||I have to say the hotel staff were excellent and help us with our plans. The room was clean and modern. Our children loved the robot that scuttled round the hotel. The beds were comfy and the breakfast was great with something for everyone and all very high quality. The room wasn’t the biggest but it was big enough and was a good size considering the location and what we paid. |We had a great weather 9th to 13th March, 19c daytime. I’d probably recommend April /May as a good time to visit as by then all the trees will be full of blossom and the flowers out. We will defiantly go back to China and defiantly stay in this hotel. Taxi’s are very cheap but the traffic is heavy so the best way to travel is the subway. China is very well organised from the airport to the attractions and the UK government should visit as they would learn a lot. |I write this review from Phuket having just come from Bangkok where we also spent 4 days. We never planned to go to China but so glad we did. Our flight to Thailand stopped in Beijing and we thought why not. We would take Beijing over Bangkok everyday of the week! Nothing wring with Bangkok but...
Read moreDidn’t take any photos as it was quite traumatising. Booked the duplex room and it was beyond dirty. Walls were covered with stains and there were dust balls collecting at every corner. Apart from that there were small flies everywhere and mosquitoes (most probably due to the bad sewage system). The bathrooms have this musty smell which really shows that the sewage system is quite bad. Once we went into our rooms we told the receptionist that day of the situation he tried to brush it off by saying the design is black so it will look dirty?? Tried to reason with that but I don’t think the black design resulted in dust balls. For the insects he reasoned that it was the peak of summer but we went to the zoo, Great Wall of china none of the places gave us as many mosquito bites as the hotel so do with that information as you will. But thank god when I insisted for a room change the receptionist was really nice about it (it was a downgrade but it was better than staying at that room). The other room(family room) was way smaller (there were still dust balls) but at least it was cleaner than the duplex room. One thing was constant is the smell of cigarettes everywhere in the hotel. If you’re a Singaporean or is more particular about cleanliness and smell of cigarettes give this hotel a miss. Pros: location was really good, it was a stone throw away from the subway station but would really pay more to stay nearer to the shopping district (WangFuJing) if you’re only going there for a short period of time. If you want to shop or eat at more popular shops/restaurants the location is not the best as none of the popular restaurants are of walkable distance (which is quite important imo given the bad traffic...
