The location is amazing , close to Lama temple subway, close to convenient stores, restaurants and shops. The room itself was big, 6 beds, comfortable, you put on and off your sheets so it's not that convenient when you arrive and so tired. I paid $15 a night which I thought was high, since I did the sheets, no towel included, no kitchen, not even a cup. Maybe I got spoiled in Japan and Korea getting all the tea coffee water for free. Here just boiling hot water is available so you need to buy water, but buy it at the convenience store much cheaper. The good thing here is 7 eleven and 24 hour stores have good, prepared foods, salads, sandwiches for quick bites. The reception doesn't speak English, not convenient. There is one guy who speaks but in my 6 days there I saw him when I arrived and left. For badaling great wall don't book a tour, It is easy by subway and bus 877 or 919, drop you by entrance, walk to the funicular, not a cable car and you will have the highest views and no tourists. I gave the reception an email address that you can email if Forbidden city is booked. In my 6 days, the bathroom was never fully clean, ALWAYS smelled like urine, they don't use cleaning supplies I guess, the room was just swept up ,not going under the beds, or in the common room the tables were never cleaned. Overall a good place to socialize and meet other travelers. But if you book the 6 bed dorm impossible to sleep if in the common area. The light gets into the room and people chat till 2 am. They should have a quiet...
Read moreI was little scared after reading all comments, but I read them when I was on my way to the hostel. So I payed only 1 night. When I arrived I liked the location, and street was good, as I was thinking maybe it could be located in a weird neighborhood. I stayed in female room 4beds, the room was ok, it was clean also toilet. Of course is not a 5start, but it was not like all previous comments. It depends of the people you are with, if they are clean or not, additionally every day someone clean the room, not a deep cleaning but at least toilet and clean the bins. I think hostel has improved many things I guess. So I stayed there 5 days, and I think is fine, I came there just to sleep, so no other things was required, hw I saw people working with their laptops and the place was good for it also. Hostel is open to foreigners and is friendly, at least this is how I felt. So just don’t be scared and if you don’t like something just check with the girls in the front desk they will...
Read moreIt really depends on what type of traveller you are as to whether or not this is the right hostel for you. At the time I stayed here it was one of my first hostels in China and I thought it was ok. But having stayed in many more now I have to say that this one doesn't really meet the standard of others. The hostel is an old prison, which meant there was no window In my dorm. There was a bathroom inside the dorm too which due to the poor ventilation made the room kind of stuffy. The bed was hard, really hard. And I found it really hard to find from the instructions given on the hostel website. That aside though, the staff are friendly, most speak ok English and can help with booking trains etc. There is a mix of Chinese and foreigners staying there and the location is kind of hidden away in a quiet hutong which makes you feel like you are getting a taste of the...
