This is the hotel we stayed in our recent trip to Beijing and we stayed here for 3 nights. Honestly this is not even a 3-star hotel (not to mention it's rated 4-star). Other than it's location, we find no reason of staying here and totally it's not worth it. First, the hotel is very dated, as if time have traveled back to the 80s~90s (from the decor and furniture you can see from the pictures). We don't even bother to photo the hotel lobby. Although the room is considered reasonably big, they have a lot of problems which we encountered. First, after checking in, the TV in our room had sound but no images and the stopper in the bathtub was not working (could not stop the water from draining). We called the reception but they didn't take to heart about it. Luckily when checking in, we had asked where to get ice cubes but the receptionists told us no ice cubes as they had no cafe. After insisting, they said they would bring some to our room! So an officer or manager came to deliver the ice cubes shortly and we told her about the problem. She tried to resolve the issue but could not fix them and called the technicians. After a while, a few technicians turned up to fix the problem. But we could sense that they were unhappy and kept telling us we didn't switch the TV "correctly" (huh?) and that's why no image? Next, the fridge. As mentioned, it was dated but we didn't expect the fridge too. We thought the fridge was not working as it was not cold after a day, then we called the staff (the following day) and to our surprise, we were told we had to manually turn on the fridge from the switch inside the fridge, thats the old fashioned fridge back to the 80s~90s! (there was no label or instruction stating that). The staff was unhappy and from her face as if we had owed her a living or being stupid who cannot turn on a fridge. Nowadays it's automatic with the room card inserted, power will be on and when removed, the power would be cut off. The breakfast was pathetic, as there was no cafe, it was provided in a ball room with a few tables and very small and limited spread of food, mostly local food. You will need to share tables with others in round tables if you come late as there were only 2 rectangle tables with 4~6 seats each. And also to our surprises, there wasn't even coffee or tea, only soy bean milk and warm milk (also the room did not offer coffee or tea sachets). The darkness wasn't over yet. We had ordered items from Taobao and somehow they rejected to receive some items for "no reason" (these are partying items like makeup and hats) and they had no proper system in registering the items. Anyone and everyone could just walk up to the shelves to "help themselves" searching over the items. I find asked the reception would I need to sign off the items and they just gave me the blank and emotional face and shaked her head. Luckily all our items were collected in order and on time, less the ones they rejected to receive. The only advantage of this hotel was the location (but there are other hotels also within the same area), that's 3~5min to the Wangfujin pedestrian shopping street with many departmental stores, eateries and souvenir shops. And there's a convenience store right at the lobby. Other than that, almost all were negative experiences. It's very rare for me to give a poor rating for a hotel in my walk around the world. I think based on my personal experiences and encounterments, this hotel definitely does not deserve a 3-star (not to mention it's a 4-star) rating, one of the few worse handful hotels I have stayed. Highly not recommended.

Subway line 1 red or line 8 green, Exit E3, you will see mcdonald, and wangfujing bookstore, just walk into the lane inbetween the 2, you will reach the hotel. I take family room with 2 double beds and 1 single bed. Room quite big, have 2 sets of double seat sofas, and even have a closet room where full of hangers for your clothes and luggage storage. Form line 1 you can go to universal studio, about 1 hour. And within 30 seconds walk you can reach wangfujing walking street, it is just outside the E3 exit.

This was an excellent choice for a very short stay in Beijing. The hotel was clean and well staffed with people at reception who spoke English well. There is also a tour agency within the hotel but there is no push to use them. The hotel is very close to the Wangfujing subway station on line 1 so there is no problem dragging your bags to and from station to get to/from the airport. You'll have to carry your bags up from the station but there is an escalator going part of the way down. When exiting Wangfujing station take exit B and exit to the left to come out closest to hotel. There is also a Bank of China between the hotel and the Wangfujing subway station where you can conveniently change dollars for yuan or yuan for dollars. The hotel was clean, the bed and pillows comfortable and the included breakfast buffet (open at 7am) was very good and located in a nice atrium. Chopsticks are at the tables but silverware is available at the bread station. The hotel rooms had air conditioners that worked quickly to cool the room and you control temperature, which isn’t always the case. They had wash cloths in addition to hand towels and bath towels. They had toothbrushes and toothaste, hair dryers, soap and shampoo, room safe, closet with hangers, plenty of 220 outlets (bring a converter or two).

The hotel is next to the police station and I felt very safe day or night. Look up the “Art Scam” and “Tea/Beer scam” before going to Wangfujing market area. I was approached about every 15 minutes by people who spoke excellent English trying one or the other scam. You can chat and get information from these people but do not go anywhere with them. They can seem very genuine. Tiananmen is known for this, also,

Since the Wangfujing shopping area is right around the corner, there are plenty of eating options. The first side street off Wangfujing from the hotel has the local food stands and souvenir shops with scorpions, bugs, etc. to eat. One of the first side streets from the hotel off Wangfujing had very good Chinese food with my favorite a steamed dumpling place with cold beer and photos of what they have above front counter with English descriptions.

Overall, I was very pleased and would stay there again. It was under an hour from me to take my backpack and large roller bag to the Airport terminal on the subway. If you enjoy a morning walk, it might be better to get a hotel closer to a park where you can people watch.

Don’t try to call a taxi/DiDi from the front of the hotel. Cars can’t go down that street. You need to go to either corner to get your cab. I used the corner to the East of the Hotel just past the police station. Be sure to download the DiDi app and connect your credit card to it. I had no trouble using Bank of America Travel Visa and DiDi is awesome with no worries about getting taken by illegal taxis. Since you’ll have multiple charges to the same Chinese company (DiDi) you may have to call your credit card company after using it a couple of times and ask them to note the DiDi company so they don’t block it. I notified my card company I was traveling to China but they still blocked card until I called them again.

While the price for location was great by Wangfujing area for food and shopping, the proximity to Tiananmen and the Forbidden City wasn’t important since they can be accessed easily from any hotel near a subway station.

SInce this review is on Google Maps, I'll tell you Google maps do not work in China. If you are planning to "favorite" locations in China, you may have to use another map app. I used Apple maps without problem. Pretty much anything Google was blocked except my translate app. I could still get my gmail by using the Apple mail app and connecting to my gmail account but couldn't use the Gmail app directly. Many recommend a VPN app on your phone to bypass these issues but I...
