Crowne Plaza Kunming City Centre — Hotel in Kunming

Please allow me to give a ZERO STAR! Poor Management!

Poorly trained staffs and attitude from bell boy to room service to concierge service!

We were greeted by one bell boy standing at the bus looking at us while 12 of us struggled with luggages and golf bags. Isn’t it common sense to get a trolley to help with the luggages???

Sent to my room 1123 and the air con was not working. Was informed that a technician will drop by to check it out.

Ordered room service a kids meal burger and taiwan beef noodle.

After half an hour, neither came! Called the room service and was told the burger is ready but the beef noodle wasnt ready yet. As we were hungry, we get them to send the burger first and we shared the food while waiting. The service staff informed that she will come back with the noodle within 8 min! After another half an hour, the food didn’t come. Called the room service again and she was giggling when she said the food is on the way. Waited again for another 10 min nothing came. Called again and she mentioned it’s already on its way and still giggling her way which I don’t understand what’s so funny??? i asked her what is so funny and she replied saying cos i keep calling and the food is already on its way. I dont understand the attitude of this staff and how she is trained to behave like that.

The food came in another 5 min time but it’s a chicken noodle!!!!!!

The staff who sent the food mentioned that it is CHICKEN noodle, so i called the room service staff again and she replied saying they are out of beef so just put in some PORK. So i ask is it pork or chicken as her colleague mentioned that it is chicken and she said it is pork.

She told me to eat first since i am HUNGRY!! What kind of attitude is that? I told her my friend has dietary restriction and i need to know if it is pork or chicken! So is it pork or chicken??? She can’t answer!!!! Told her to take away and replace with fish and chips and she said ok.

While waiting I realized about the air con and called the operator again! She said most likely the air con is spoiled and has to change room. The technician not even here. WHAT IF I DIDNT CALL BACK??? Are they gonna just leave it like that?

The male service staff came and walked straight into the room and intended to carry the luggage away without even asking!

Changed to the next door which is not too bad.

I called the room service to inform them about the change of room so they can deliver the food to the right room.

While waited for another 20min, which is 1130pm already, they came to my room informing that that’s no fish n chips option as it’s passed the 11pm!!! WHY DIDNT THEY INFORM WHEN I MADE THE ORDER OR WHEN I CALL TO CHANGE THE ROOM???

They came with a plate of uncooked potato which they call fries and a plate of fruits! What is this??? The potato is uncooked!!!!

What kind of attitude is this again!!! I am totally annoyed and is still feeling angry with the service rendered and attitude received by this hotel!!

I will come back kunming but I WILL NEVER COME TO THIS HOTEL OR RECOMMEND THIS TO...

Booked a night with reward points for our stay in Kunming following changed of our travel plan.

The check in was ok as normal but the front desk never greet nor mentioned anything about IHG elite member till the end I asked about any chance of room upgrade etc. The staff checked the booking then told I was not able to enjoy elite club member benefits because the room was booked using reward points!! This is the first time I was ever heard about this rule from IHG staff over the last couple of years being with the hotel group.

Following a discussion with her supervisor, we managed to have only a kingsize bedroom instead but no room upgrade. At the end the supervisor somehow noticed my club member was spire elite then further offered us a free breakfast.

The room was reasonable size, however the mattress and pillows were considered being old with sagging and dips, which were not really comfortable to sleep.

The breakfast was good with a good variety of selection. However it was noted that the waiting staff was inadequate as many people were waiting tables to be cleared and be seated. We had few used plates aside our table but no staff really care to take them away at all until we requested to do so.

In addition of above, we didn't get much useful help/advice from the concierge when we were asking about train tickets. This comment was based on our experience received from Indigo, Intercontinental at Lijiang and Holiday Inn at Kunming as well as other IHG hotels I stayed.

Nevertheless the bartender (sorry forgotten her name) at the first floor bar lounge was rather friendly and easy approach with good manner to all customer.

Overall, apart from the location this hotel didn't meet the Crown Plaza standard and needed great room of...

I was trying to write a review via below link but failed, maybe because of the technical problems. I am just replying by email instead. 

I stayed with IHG hotels for many times, CROWNE PLAZA was always my choice, till I stayed with Kunming Crowne Plaza. To be very honest I even cant believe that is IHG member, it that true Crowne Plaza? It obviously cant meet the IHG standard, it is very old hotel actually, all furniture, the elevators, the room...it looked like it was built in last century....especially the service, we checked in on desk of executive rooms, when we left (it was early in the morning, around 5am), the front desk was dark, not hotel staff was there, we had to leave the room keys to the staff who came to help with the luggage, so I didn't get chance to provide the feedback to the front desk. 

My family and I we were very disappointed by this hotel, we feel we cant trust the branding of IHG anymore, so we chose Marriot hotels instead in our rest of the journey in this summer vacation. The National Holiday is coming soon in China and we are going to travel again, we are booking hotels in HK but not sure if it will be satisfied, or disappointed us again if we book any IHG hotels in HK...

Anyway, hope the quality of the service, the facilities can be improved in Kunming Crowne...
