I’ve stayed here before many times over the last 3 years. This would normally be our hotel chain of choice based on price point and amenities. The room smelt like an airport smoking room on a bad day. I thought about accepting it as I was tired and it was late but the air conditioning in the rooms on floor 2 are also not good. Noisy neighbours, screaming kids and families sharing multiple rooms next to each leaving the doors open made the experience even more unpleasant. I had to wait 30 minutes for a new room in a grotty reception area with broken seats. After asking for a refund, I got upgrade to a decent room on the 6th floor. Clean and no smell. Breakfast is good here and much better than in other Chinese Campanile hotels- European breakfast choices are all available: pain au chocolate (etc), butter, milk, acceptable fruit juice etc. There are hotels in this area of a higher quality that provide the same for around 1/2 the price. It’s worth trying the Chinese brands. This stay was expensive as I bought it last minute- next, I’ll choose a different hotel. Key point: if you do book here in advance, you can get a better deal and better rooms- request a non smoking quiet room. If you do stay here, the location is excellent. The LV ship is 1 metro stop away. There are plenty of museums within 5 minutes walking distance and you can walk along the canal to the Bund...
Read moreThe hotel room is large and the beds are confortable. The only issue I had was that our room smelled of cigarette smoke when we got back and I asked the front desk to let us change rooms. Initially, they wanted us to sleep in the room for the night and change tomorrow. I insisted that we cannot sleep with the smell of cigarette smoke as we are alresdy having headache with the smell. That is when they told us that we can transfer to another room. Just a little disappointed with the service that they were not proactive to let us change rooms or get rid of the smell. The location has a great view of the river, but a little walk from the train station. They have free water bottles that you can request and the robot will come up to your door to deliver. Sometimes, the AI will not understand you and will just be quiet. So hopefully, this will improve and AI will respond that it does not understand instead of just giving the silent treatment. They also have free candies, teas, and amenity kits like comb, toothbrush, toothpaste etc. which you can freely get from the lobby. They also have vendo machines for drinks, instant noodles and some table games at the...
Read moreVery nice room. It is good no-frill hotel just that its location is not great
Pros: Nice and good size room. Being a new hotel, spotless.
Good staff. Staff are comfortable in English if this is important for you.
Cons: Location a) It is not in any main area such as Bund or People's square. May be that is reason for it being about 20% cheaper than Campanile Bund.
b) It is about 800 meter from 'Natural History Museum' metro line so connectivity is not an issue as such.
c) The hotel is not on road but behind another building. Taxi does not come at its reception but drop/pick at the road which is about 15 meters away. Take care of it.
Breakfast: Continental as well as Chinese. As expected from such hotel. Nothing exceptional to mention but no complain either.
They accept MasterCard too.
I am unlikely to pick it again because its location does not suit me. I picked it because 'Campanile Shanghai Bund Hotel' wan't available. However, I am still rating it 5 star because of good room and slightly lower price which compensates disadvantage of...
