We were advised by a friend that this was the go-to place for traditional Hunan food in Shanghai. It was both good and cheap. He was right. There were three of us or we would have ordered at least one more dish. As it was, we did without rice and it was still a struggle to finish everything. The steamed lotus root stuffed with glutinous rice had a lovely texture, was slightly sweet, and very filling. We had requested medium spice level as we had heard that spicy means very hot. We are all big fans of tripe and this dish had the right balance between the richness and chewy texture of the meat and the pickled vegetables. We washed our meal down with some excellent chrysanthemum tea. Service was prompt and efficient.
