2/5 stars I'm disappointed to say that our recent stay at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Center fell short of our expectations, especially considering our Super Elite membership status. As frequent Marriott guests, we've come to expect a certain level of service and quality, but unfortunately, this hotel didn't deliver. The room amenities were subpar, with the phone not working even for city calls, and the front desk being unhelpful and trying to charge us for a local call. We were left hanging without a callback. Additionally, me and my daughter had to wait 30 minutes in the middle of our shower after the long Disneyland trip at 10sh pm because the hair conditioner and shower gel containers were empty, and the wrong bathroom stuff was brought to our room. The lounge experience was also a letdown. Despite being a family with young children, we weren't allowed to access the lounge, food was subpar and our kids felt isolated throughout our 4-night stay. In contrast, our subsequent stay at the Mandarin Oriental was a breath of fresh air. The hotel's family-friendly atmosphere and exceptional service were a stark contrast to our experience at the Marriott. The front desk staff, concierge, and other team members spoke great English and went above and beyond to make our stay special, and comfortable, especially for our little ones. The thoughtful touches, such as providing small indoor slippers and towels for our kids, made them feel like princes and princess. If you're traveling with family and kids, I'd highly recommend considering the Mandarin Oriental over the Marriott (more business) The difference in service and amenities was night and day. *Suggestions for improvement:* - Ensure that room amenities, including phones and toiletries, are functioning and readily available. - Provide better training for front desk staff on handling guest issues and providing excellent customer service. - Consider revising the lounge policy to be more family-friendly and inclusive. *Overall:* While we're loyal Marriott customers, our experience at this hotel was a disappointment. Perhaps with some improvements, future guests with young family will have a more enjoyable stay.

I stayed a few nights at Shanghai Marriott Marquis City Centre, and overall the experience was pleasant. The location is convenient — close to attractions, transport, and shopping areas. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with daily cleaning done very well. However, the breakfast does not stand out for its variety. It is quite standard and limited, and if you happen to stay during a national holiday, the selection becomes even poorer — although you still pay the same room rate. The services are far from exceptional, leaving a rather misleading impression both at reception and at the bar. At check-in, we were offered a so-called upgrade to a higher floor room with a city view, even though we had booked and paid for the more expensive room with a Bund view. Naturally, we refused, being fully aware of the price difference. The receptionist seemed disappointed, and we were eventually allocated a room on the lowest floor available for the room category we had booked. So be cautious about what you book and what kind of “upgrades” you accept. At the lounge bar, even though they advertise a happy hour, the bill arrives at full price. Misleading services, certainly not what you expect from a 5-star hotel. Another point worth mentioning: to use the swimming pool, you need a swim cap. As we were not informed in advance, we obviously didn’t have one, and we declined to use the reused caps offered by the hotel — not what you would expect from a 5-star property with prestige. The rooms are large, though the furniture feels a bit dated. Housekeeping was excellent. However, the Wi-Fi is very weak and unreliable, which is disappointing for an international 5-star hotel. For those seeking comfort, accessibility, and decent standards, this can be a good option in Shanghai — but don’t expect true 5-star perfection in every aspect.

Night view of Shanghai from the Hotel. I was truly impressed by the exceptional level of comfort and attention to detail that the hotel provided. Your rooms were not only immaculately clean and well-maintained but also exuded elegance and sophistication. The thoughtfully designed interiors and luxurious amenities made me feel pampered and at home throughout my stay. The comfortable beds ensured a restful sleep, while the modern facilities added convenience to my experience. The range and quality of the services offered by your hotel were truly remarkable. The dining options provided a delightful culinary journey, with delectable dishes prepared to perfection. The fitness center and spa facilities allowed me to rejuvenate both mind and body, providing a refreshing and invigorating experience. Most importantly, your dedication to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety during these challenging times is commendable. The measures in place to ensure a hygienic environment gave me peace of mind and allowed me to fully enjoy my stay without any concerns. Overall, my experience at Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre surpassed my expectations in every aspect. I am truly grateful for the exceptional quality of your rooms and services, which contributed significantly to making my stay memorable. I will undoubtedly recommend your hotel to friends, family, and colleagues seeking a luxurious and impeccable hospitality experience in Shanghai.

e recently returned from a five night stay at the Shanghai Marriott Marquis City Centre hotel. We have stayed at this hotel many times previously, going back to 2013. It is our first choice of hotels when we visit Shanghai. Our last visit was I. October 2019, before the pandemic. In the meantime the hotel has been elevated to Marriott Marquis status in the hotel hierarchy.||||This hotel is very modern and elegant. The rooms are very large. If you have not visited hotels in China, you will be impressed by the number and professionalism of the staff. This hotel has 400+ employees plus college interns studying hospitality management. They work here to get hotel experience and perfect their language skills.||||The favorable pricing is the next surprise. Many things cost less in China. A hotel room here might cost around $200 a night. The same room in a major city like New York or London might cost $500 to $700 a night.||||The hotel rooms are mostly on the higher floors. Ours had great views in all directions. The bathrooms are large. Our bathroom had both a tub and a glass enclosed rainfall shower. There is an incredibly complete amenity kit including a razor, toothbrush, comb and mouthwash.||||Room cleaning takes place very promptly in the morning. There is a nightly turndown that includes your Marriott slippers laid out on a white rectangle of fabric alongside the bed. A card on the nightstand lets you know the next day’s weather.||||Rooms at a certain price level and Marriott Bonvoy membership at certain levels gives you access to the M-Club on the 37th floor. We refer to this benefit as the “Modified Marriott Plan.” They have a breakfast spread that includes about 100 items. In addition to the items you would expect, you might find watermelon juice and cucumber juice. There are eight types of cereal.||||They offer eggs cooked to,order along with traditional Asian breakfast selections like congee and dim sum dumplings. The hot food buffet also includes the components for a full English breakfast.||||The Asian hot food selections also include several selections you would expect to find at lunch or dinner.||||The best aspect of the M-Club benefit is the hot food spread served from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. When you add in the desserts, salads and charcuterie, you have an ideal grazing dinner. Beer, wine and mixed drinks are complimentary. They also have coffee, tea and soft drinks.||||The concierge desk is proactive. They can arrange taxis or a hotel car. This means calling them at that moment or booking them in advance. I wanted to buy a bouquet of flowers. They walked me to the florist and arranged delivery through the Concierge desk.||||We needed train tickets from Shanghai to Beijing and back. The concierge desk did all the arrangements.||||There is an ATM machine for getting cash in the lobby. This is handy if you don’t have a digital wallet, which is how everyday purchases seem to be made in China today.||||Are there drawbacks? We love this hotel, but we need to spend 24 hours travel time getting here from the...

I made a booking for Shanghai Marriott Marquis City Centre Hotel via the Marriott app in Sept 2024. I was surprised that Marriott did not charge my credit card immediately as per the norm with other hotels. I was worried that whether I had booked my room successfully. ||I was pleasantly surprised to receive a welcome email from the hotel 2 days before my arrival. The email asked for my flight details and any special request that I may have. I replied that I have an early morning arrival flight and would appreciate it if they could arrange for an early check-in. The hotel replied almost immediately that they would try their best to accommodate to my request.||On 10th Nov 2024, my husband and I arrived in Shanghai at 6.30am. We arrived at the hotel at 9am after taking the metro. We were promptly served by a friendly , patient and pleasant young man at the front desk. The paperwork was promptly done and he was happy to inform us that our room would be ready in an hours time. He even suggested that we take a 5 minutes stroll to Huanghe Road to see what we would like to eat for breakfast. After our meal, we went back and was promptly handed our room keys as earlier promised. ||We proceeded to our room. The room was clean, spacious and offers a good view of the city. All the electrical items were working perfectly. Housewarming was also very prompt with their service. We informed them that we needed more bottled water as we drink a lot of water. They quickly bring us 6 additional bottles of water. Additionally we need not call them to give us more bottled water. The housekeeping staff automatically provided more bottled water everyday throughout our stay without us even calling them anymore. Kudos to the housekeeping team for being meticulous and the ability to anticipate pur needs.||Excellent was prevalent throughout the whole hotel. Check out was a breeze and the check out staff even print out our hotel bill for us without us requesting for it. After that he advised us on the options to travel to the airport to help us make an informed choice. We ask the concierge to help us book a cab to the airport. The service staff helped us with our luggage and wish us a safe trip home.||The excellent location makes this hotel an ideal place to stay, especially for the proximity to eateries , restaurants, shopping district and tourist attractions. It is easily accessible via the metro People's Square station exit 5, 6 or 7 ( with escallators). Exit 19 is nearest, but you need to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs. ||However, what is most is the excellent customer service prevalent throughout the hotel. Thank you for making our stay wonderful...
