This is a huge hostel in the center of Shanghai. The location is definitely perfect, near many metro lines, easily reached directly from Hongqiao, Pudong, and Shanghai South railway station. The rooms are your typical hostel rooms - not much space but that’s what you’re signing up for. It’s nice that there is a locker where you can lock away your things - even though it still feels very safe in the rooms even if you don’t put anything inside :) There is a curtain on all beds so you can have some privacy, and a socket with USB port which is quite convenient. I only felt like the mattresses were very old, some of them had a dent in the middle which was a little bit uncomfortable. It would definitely be nice to replace them. Regarding the public areas, there is quite a lot of space. There is a bar with a lot of room in the lobby where you can hang out and then a more quiet leisure area where you can work or just relax in silence on the third floor. There’s also a “phone room” where you can go if you need to attend a meeting/call someone for some privacy which was very nice. The bathrooms could’ve been cleaner, especially the toilets. It was quite common that there was no toilet paper and you had to go through several stalls to find one with toilet paper. As is common in China, the toilet paper cannot be flushed and you throw it in a bin by the toilet. That in itself is fine but these bins didn’t have a lid and sometimes they wouldn’t be emptied for some time so it smelled pretty bad. The sinks were pretty dirty in the mornings and evenings which I guess is understandable since it’s pretty busy around that time but still, most hostels that I’ve previously stayed in managed to stay much cleaner. There’s a free laundry room (including detergent) and a drying area. Very nice and convenient, especially with the drying area since it would be difficult to hang things in the room. You can get drinking water from a dispenser in the lobby which was a little bit annoying to always have to go down to the bar for water and the water flow was super slow so sometimes there was a line. I guess this was my biggest issue since it was really annoying to keep running down.Otherwise, my stay was nice and comfortable! The staff was very kind and spoke good English and like I said, the location is...
Read moreA Fantastic Stay at Dayin International Youth Hostel in Shanghai!I recently had the pleasure of staying at Dayin International Youth Hostel in Shanghai, and I must say, it was an absolutely amazing experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made me feel right at home.Location:The hostel is perfectly located in the heart of Shanghai, making it incredibly convenient to explore all the city has to offer. It’s just a short walk from major attractions like people’s square and the surrounding area is filled with great restaurants, shops, and local markets. The transportation links are also excellent, with several subway stations nearby.Accommodation:The rooms are clean, cozy, and well-maintained. I stayed in a dormitory, and it was surprisingly spacious and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable, and the hostel provides all the necessary amenities like fresh linens, storage space, and even charging stations. The common areas are also well-designed, with plenty of seating and a nice lounge where you can relax or socialize with other travelers.Facilities: offers a range of fantastic facilities. The hostel has a well-equipped kitchen where you can prepare your own meals, which is a great way to save some money while traveling. There’s also a free Wi-Fi connection throughout the building, which worked perfectly for me. I particularly loved the rooftop terrace, where you can enjoy stunning views of the city skyline and catch some fresh air.Staff:One of the standout aspects of this hostel is the staff. They are incredibly friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with any requests. Whether it was getting directions, recommending places to visit, or helping with travel plans, they went above and beyond to make sure my stay was perfect. They even organized a few social events during my stay, which was a great way to meet other travelers and make some new friends.Overall ExperienceMy stay at Dayin International Youth Hostel was truly memorable. The combination of a great location, comfortable accommodations, excellent facilities, and the most welcoming staff made my experience in Shanghai even more enjoyable. Read moreWhat can I say, if you’re on the fence just pull the trigger. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at DaYin and you should too!My plan to visit Shanghai was a super last minute, game time decision. Right after the recent Chinese holiday, for only a day, and was fully accommodated for with all the convenience I could hope for. Not only was it located in a prime location (really doesn’t get better than this as it’s next to everything touristy, saving you precious time) but everything from the service, amenities, and operation of their hostel was a pleasant surprise as it really exceeded my expectations (compared to all other accommodations I have been to like this one). The staff are very friendly and hard working, the shared areas are all kept exceptionally clean for the amount of traffic that comes through, and they probably have the best vitamin/electrolyte water in the game downstairs. I really loved how they have a extensive list of import beers which you can grab from the fridge or enjoy on tap, and the espressos that they extract were both rich and flavourful (good job). I never tried the food offerings as I knew what I wanted to eat locally, with night markets, food halls, and local eateries right as you step outside. But, from all the orders that I saw made by other guests, it all looked to be quite tasty and definitely a good option for those who want a little taste from home. Damn, this is getting long but there is a lot to say. Well, in the effort to keep things short I really didn’t have any negative experience or feel inconvenienced at all. The cleaners work around your time keeping things tidy and there are staff present 24/7 to assist, especially important if you keep locking your room keys in your room/assigned locker like me, aha. Fei and Zu were the best, but the rest of the staff were just as awesome. I enjoyed Shanghai so much that I wanted to extend my stay, which they helped me with swiftly. The room was also very nicely thought out. That’s probably all you need to know and no this was not a paid review. Thanks...
