Step through the wooden gates of this small hotel just a couple of blocks off the central square of Jardín and you will feel like you have left the town behind. Once inside you are greeted by a canopy of foliage (mangoes, I think?) that draws you further in to the property. It’s a quiet and peaceful spot to be enjoyed for what it is. |Do not expect luxury at this hotel. Our room was fine, with a comfortable bed and pillows. Being on the second floor, our window opened to a gorgeous view of the cathedral nearby. The room’s other furniture was simple and utilitarian. The bathroom functioned alright as well. The shower was one of those with the water heater built in to the shower head. A new experience for me, but the water temp was just fine (and I did not get electrocuted either!). We shared a balcony with the other upstairs room, providing us with a small table and chairs, some upholstered chairs, and a hammock. My only real gripe about the room - the bathroom wall abutting the staircase outside did not go all the way up to the ceiling. Yes, there was a 2-3 foot wide opening from the bathroom to the outside - allowing anyone outside to hear anything going on in the bathroom. Surely that could be walled off for not so much money? Some on here have complained about the breakfast. It was perfectly delicious and about what I expected from a hotel in this (very affordable) price range. I’d stay here again without...
Read moreBuyer beware!!! Owners are hostile against guests who complain. We're an older retired couple, grateful to travel when health permits. We had reserved 3 nights here, based on the great reviews. On the first night, we realized we had no hot water and couldn't use the shower. We did our best to wash with the icy water from the sink. The next morning, we naturally complained. Staff were apologetic. When we returned to the hotel that evening, expecting the problem resolved, we were instead greeted by 3 police officers. Shocked, we quickly learned that when staff conveyed our complaint to the owners, the owners ordered them to kick us out. The police were there to make sure we'd pay for the previous night before going. Despite the late hour, no help was offered to find us other accommodations. Luckily, we had already made great connections in Columbia, and they found us a beautiful place, 5 minutes away, with hot water and a far better breakfast. What's more, it was less than...
Read moreKantarrana Urbana is a lovely little hotel in Jardín, a rural paradise 3 hours south of Medellín. The small hotel, almost a bed & breakfast with maybe a dozen rooms, is rustic and homey, but sparkling clean. A basic buffet style breakfast with eggs, fruit and arepas is prepared, and there is coffee throughout the day. The staff is super friendly. The accommodations are basic but the grounds are lovely you are literally surrounded by passion fruit vines, and other fruit trees are inside the premises. It's impeccably groomed and sparkling clean. We didn't participate in any of the activities (we just wanted to have a brief escape from Medellín) but the staff seems knowledgeable and able to suggest activities. We had to cut our trip short because of unrelated issues, but we will definitely be back, and we also want to visit their sister site, a few minutes out of town in a...
