Positive: The location was the best aspect of this property, in the pleasant neighbourhood of San Diego but on a quiet street. The rooms were nice but as has been regularly mentioned in reviews have no external windows, although this is common in Cartagena due to the heat. In general the property was clean and well-maintained, although difficult to find as the external door does not display the hotel name - make sure you note down the house number when booking! Roof terrace was okay, very small 'pool' was more like a cold hot tub, gets noisy up there in the evening.||||Negative:The staff were very disappointing for the duration of our stay, from the desk to the breakfast room. Miserable and cynical, generally looked liked they did not enjoy their customer service role. We also had an incident where a substantial amount of cash and a bank card was selectively stolen from a purse in a drawer of our room, after the staff had told us the in-room safe was not functioning. The desk staff were dismissive of this and it was not until management and the police were called that we had any sympathy, most disappointing. Thus, be careful with your belongings and do not trust the safety of your room. On top of that breakfast was pretty poor, cheap coffee and under-cooked eggs, the fresh fruit was nice but the sour customer service was not a great start to the day!||||Summary: Book if the San Diego location is desirable, but be very aware...
Read moreFirst and foremost, this hotel is located smack-dab in the middle of the most beautiful street I've ever seen. It's in a wonderful part of the old city that's close to everything, but not in the middle of too much hubbub. The hotel staff are friendly and accommodating, although the chef doesn't speak English, so ordering breakfast everyday was a bit of a struggle for us foreigners. (Was a cute little breakfast of fruit, toast, and eggs.) The rooms are small, but comfortable. The AC worked very well, in fact we had to pile under a few blankets at night, but it felt incredible after a long day of exploring the city. The hotel also had adorable bikes for us to use, so we definitely took advantage (although don't attempt to bike and not be ready to sweat)! While it's certainly not the swankiest hotel I've ever stayed in, it was wonderful for an inexpensive,...
Read moreAfter booking months in advance the hotel cancelled last minute days before my flight with little to no explanation. They provided no help and I was forced to rebook a different hotel with very little availability left in the city. Now we are in a bad area and are very frustrated with this experience. After travelling to over 15 countries I have never had such a thing occur, BEWARE. They also cancelled on my travel companion a few weeks prior, again with no explanation or contact. I wonder if they are offered more money from other patrons if they cancel existing reservations to make room. Stay far away there are many better options if you want a reliable place to stay in Cartagena without being...
