Hampton/Hilton Medellin very disappointed. By a Hilton Honors client. I stayed Hilton all over the world. I’m from South Florida, USA living in Bogotá Colombia. This hotel was a total letdown. Nothing free here for honors guests except one bottle of water, and that was an argument. The snacks displayed on their counter at the reception are not free. Good thing I brought my own when I went to take one the non-English-speaking staff said nope you have to pay. I said no Gracias. The breakfast that was included was substandard garbage. What they called chorizo was hotdogs, cut up and thrown in a pan with onions. I will say the eggs weren’t bad. But everything else was substandard, including the orange juice, which was watered down like piss. The coffee was disgusting and watered down too. Nothing was good. Also, you have to make a reservation to use the hot tub which is empty old and dirty. There was only two lounge chairs on the roof where the hot tub is. I thought there was a pool here, that was my bad. No pool. I would not go in that hot tub. It was old and nasty. They have to fill it up every time someone wants to use it. Being that the heat says 82° in Medellin. It really felt like 95° because you’re close to the equator. Air conditioning was so so none in the elevators none in the lobby, so be prepared to sweat. The linens were substandard thin paper not your typical wonderful Hilton linens. We had to keep calling for extra towels cause they were so thin and horrible and one day we slept a little late the maid never came until 930 at night to make up our room and we were already in bed. It was very uncomfortable. And she didn’t really clean the floor well because I noticed the same dirt in the same spot when I woke up the next day. The only thing we can say is that the blanket and the pillows were decent, the sheets were polyester crap, not like what we used to with the Egyptian cotton linensThey usually provide the beds are hard as a rock. Forget it if you want a wonderful cup of coffee with a Keurig machine, it ain’t happening. here they give you a hot water kettle, and all artificial packets of coffee, sugar, and creamer instant which I find very insulting since Medellin Antioquía is the coffee capital of the world in Colombia and they don’t even serve you decent coffee. Again, good thing I brought my own coffee and condiments and snacks from home. I wouldn’t eat the food at the restaurant either. There’s plenty of great restaurants in the area. And the furniture in the room is substandard. There was hardly anywhere to put your clothes and not enough hangers. as far as the staff they are very nice but a little argumentative. They argued with us on every question we had and when I asked for help, they told me I have to come down they wouldn’t come up to our room on the 11th floor which by the way, the lobby is on the 14th floor so when you arrive you have to stand in the heat waiting for the elevators which take forever they’re very slow and sometimes don’t work at the same time. We waited 20 minutes to go to our room and there’s no air-conditioning down there Like I said the lobby is on the 14th floor. It’s a big inconvenience. Bottom line is don’t stay here. I stay at mostly five star hotels all around the world and this one was really like a Holiday Inn. Oh, and nobody spoke English. How can you have an international hotel with no English speakers is beyond me. Thank God for Google Translate in my son who speaks Spanish. I will be calling Hilton Honors to get some refunds or points. It was a...
Read moreNo air conditioning, no hot water, a broken room phone, and staff who miscommunicate the hotel's guest policy, then keep telling me over and over again that it is the hotel policy before finally admitting that they "forgot" to tell me about the 150k daily fee and misinformed me. Diamond status got me an extra bottle of water, worth about 60 cents. Asking for things like towels will take three follow-up phone calls and a couple of hours; their staff just won't bother showing up.
After eight or nine hours I was moved to a room with somewhat functional air conditioning, no hot water in the sink (and a broken tap), but hot water in the shower. I accepted this for the rest of my stay. Someone who was identified to be the manager but later turned out to have to go ask the real manager for authorization eventually took off one of the guest charges and offered my guest another bottle of water as an apology - this was much appreciated, but it would have been nice if I could have achieved this without having to fight with two other staff for half an hour first, before they would admit they'd made a mistake.
All in all, this was a complete waste of both my points and Hilton Diamond status, and my Hilton credit card (which this hotel is somehow unable to use for room charges). I am unsure how this is a Hilton property at all. If I had not had infinitely better experiences with Hilton prior to this, I would have canceled my credit card and walked out of this hotel even at the cost of losing my points.
This was the only place in the city I could book with Hilton points, and I would not recommend ever paying their cash pricing. Their regular pricing for rooms without working ACs or hot water is absolutely nuts; literally any hotel at a third or half their price will get you the basics.
The one staff member who went above and beyond to try to ensure I had a great stay was Vanessa, who is the concierge downstairs. Her help was much...
Read moreFirst the pros: the staff are so kind and helpful. All of them: door men, front desk, housekeeping. They couldn't have improved any more so thank you to all of them. The room was clean and comfortable. Here are a few cons: the location is not very close to any metro stops. You're 20 minutes walk from either station so plan on using taxis if you desire to get around town. If you plan to use the metro, make sure you look at the map first. I did not and that is my fault. There is only 2 elevators in the building and a few times during our stay only 1 of them was working. The lobby is on the 14th floor so the elevators are very busy during the day. We spent a lot of time waiting for the elevators and staying on the 9th floor - it just isn't feasible to use the stairs every time you want to come in or leave. I wish there were more elevators or faster elevators. Lastly, there's no where to hang towels! There are two hooks in the whole bathroom. Nowhere to hang a hand towel and if you want to hang a toiletries bag or something then you need to cover it with your wet towel. Install 3-4 more bathroom hooks and I'd be happy! All in all - this is a good hotel for a good price with great staff. You won't be disappointment staying here if you take into account the few things I mentioned: look at a map before you come, maybe ask for a low floor if the elevator thing would annoy you and ask them to install some more towel hooks! Thank you to all the...
