I have stayed at this hotel more than 15 nights, both Rewards and Paid Nights, on 5 stays in the past 12 months. I had voiced my constructive criticism to the hotel staff directly, as well as in a descriptive, and much read external travel website review.
The hotel owner's daughter Natalia, who appears active in replying to guest reviews, both here and on external review websites as well, is not as 'constructive' as it may appear in her online responses.
Things like the worn out and outdated rooms, and their equipment, have not been addressed seriously..and the hotel is currently not meeting IHG/Holiday Inn Express standards, in my experience and opinion.
The windows are thin, not sound proof and not energy efficient. This essential to be improved for an aging hotel, such as the Holiday Inn Express Medellin. In conjunction with this, all 'non renovated' rooms have extremely loud and energy inefficient air condition units. In some rooms so loud that it is nearly impossible to sleep with running A/C.
The top floors of the hotel, that I have stayed on, are prone and plagued by tiny ants that seem to be able to 'invade' the rooms via their above mentioned unsealed windows.
On my last stay I detected trails of ants migrating up and down the walls by the mini kitchen sink and fridge, as well as in the bathroom, which also has a very loud air circulation vent.
Interestingly enough, this was one of the recently renovated rooms, where one would expect that ant trails should be the least likely. However, the windows of these redone rooms are still the flimsy old ones, mentioned above.
I was moved to a non-renovated room across the hallway, where the 'age' sure is showing, both in the room, as well as in its bathroom. loose fixtures, ever changing water temperature and worn furniture with holes in its upholstery.
I attempted to speak with the above mentioned Natalia, via a request at the friendly and nice reception staff. However, she seemed not to find the repeated and constructive criticism of a Spire Elite important enough to try to get back to me, saying to her staff that i should send her an email and that she is not working on Saturdays.
I am not alone in my criticisms, as can be read in other guest reviews here and on external travel review websites.
The only reason for me to have returned to this hotel is their excellent, very warm and welcoming Breakfast Restaurant Kitchen Staff. They took care of my needs when I had a travel cold a few months ago, and they do their best to provide a changing variety and good quality breakfast buffet.
Some of the recent Reception Staff has also been friendly and welcome, while others had some lack of customer service in the past.
I am sad to say that I can no longer recommend this hotel, due to the fact that the management seems to not take constructive criticisms seriously. Changes, such as the recent renovation of some of the rooms, have been slow in coming and only...
Read moreI am IHG member and I stayed at the 'Holiday Inn Express Medellin' only because this location is the only Holiday Inn available in the whole city.
I have booked the suite room and I was assigned Room#2001 when I checked in at 11:30 PM after a long day of work in Medellin.
As soon as I checked in, I found out that there was no water supply and I called imediately to the Front Desk that there is no water in the bathroom and I need to take a shower. (Hoping to change my room)
The night-shift manager told me that they are having problems with water supply and all hotel rooms are having this problem.
He told me to wait 15 minutes and it will be fixed soon.
So, I thought that it's not a big deal to wait 15 minutes to have shower and sleep.
40 minutes had passed and it was already passed midnight. I decided to call the front desk to see what is happening.
The manager told me to wait half an hour more and they should fix the water problem.
I've been calling the front desk multiple times until 4:00 AM. I couldn't sleep all night!!! And the only thing I kept hearing is to wait and wait because they are working on it.
I've asked to cancelled my reservation because I could go to the other hotel where i can take shower and sleep.
If they knew that they were having problems, they should have let me know upon check-in.
If only he had told me that I would have water for shower the next day morning.... I could have maybe slept and took shower in the morning when I wake up.
I have paid a lot of money for this night, but couldn't get any sleep!!! I have complained to the manager next morning when I checked out, but he didn't apologize but not even bothered to charge me. I told them that I will write a official complaint letter to IHG group and then he offered me 250 IHG points for the inconveniences caused.
250 IHG points???? To keep my mouth shut and pay for the night which I coudn't sleep the whole night??? I refused to get this IHG points!
I was given wi-fi password which I couldn't log-in. I have local phone with data so I didn't bother, but they should check on that too.
The hotel was under construction!!
Renovation was going on, and I was not informed about this upon making reservation.
I will never return to this hotel.
Since I didn't get any sleep, my important business meeting the next day went really bad... I got sick and everything...

Overall, this hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful.| |Room, Shower, Bed|We stayed in a two-bed suite located on the 20th floor with stunning views of the mountains and city. The room had every amenity we needed such as a Kitchen with a large refrigerator, dishes, and microwave. We obtained glassware from the breakfast area. The room had a small table with 2 chairs for meals. It had a comfortable sofa to sit and look out the full-length windows of the room with spectacular views of the mountains.| |The bathroom was large and the sink had plenty of counterspace for toiletries. The water pressure was perfect and I like the shampoo/soap pump distancer in the shower and next to the sink. The sink had plenty of counterspace for toiletries.| |The beds were very comfortable as well as the pillows. I was very comfortable sleeping after walking during the day.| |Breakfast|This hotel included breakfast for our reservation. OMG. Best breakfast buffet and coffee I’ve experienced at any hotel so far. The breakfast area was very large on the 21rst floor with 360 views of Medellin. It was open all the way around for amazing dining views!!! They served everything you would need such as coffee, hot milk, juices, cereal, milk, eggs, empanada’s, chorizo, ham, salchichas, bacon, arepas, oatmeal, meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, yogurt, and smoothies. We also were used the area in the evening to watch the sunset with a bottle of bubbly from the local supermarket.| |Overall|This hotel is in a good location with supermarkets nearby and in walking distance. Also, Ubers were easy and inexpensive to get around. We also took Uber’s to and from the airport. Located in a shopping mall, it had restaurants but the best was the Peruvian by the entrance. Very convenient after a long day of site seeing and tired. Perfect and...
