Located in the exclusive Poblado this overrated restaurant is just a mirage in the Medellín tourist area. From the first second you arrive, you can enjoy not only from a contagious fiesta ambience but also from the good service from hostess, the waiter to the staff cleaning our table, were amazing and professional friendly. Guests should enjoy not just the local fiesta decoration and bustling ambiance but should also enjoy it as a whole if it weren't for the quality of the plates. In the area, there are a few restaurants that deserve 4 or 5 stars, but Andres Carnes restaurant is at another lower level and just deserves a no more than 3 stars review. Plates were at another lower level of tastelessness never experienced by us, meat lovers; it seemed to us that the Chef tried to cook and mix traditional hispanic plates but failed miserably in achieving it as dishes looked coarsely plain, meat overcooked, and lacked of flavors and/or sauces. I have enjoyed better flavors and better plate presentations in anothers Medellin smaller restaurants. From the distance, it looks like guests will enjoy a magical culinary experience, but once in there, guests realize that it is just a beautiful restaurant with a great fiesta show interior view and fair customer service. This beautiful party show concept restaurant projects an exclusive party feeling that takes your mind away at first sight but the food quali crashes all initia culinary illusions. The menu options which include more drinks options than plates options, is an overwhelmed menu with a lot of alcohol offers but very few meat and chicken options, all are HOAXES, as clients just end full of disillusion, and only with a overpriced bill. Most of the plates were plain and coarse meats (overpriced), which lacked artfully preparation and plate presentation. The expanded kids' menu has very few options, but it is well sorted. What does come up short are the plates? plain, coarse flavors and extremely overpriced plates. During my two visits to Andres Carnes, I was confused, even though I had mixed feelings about the overall experience, as I said the staff was friendly and the ambiance was outstanding but as said, service was professional and attentive , but always looks rushed and overwhelmed. It is also worth mentioning the portion sizes, as they were disappointingly small, especially considering the extremely high prices charged at this restaurant. In terms of flavors, the food was barely average, not exceptional, not to the extravagant prices. It lacked that special unique flavor and presentation that would have made it truly unforgettable. The flavors were under average, and we didn't feel particularly impressed by any of the dishes tried. Considering the high rating and high reputation of this restaurant, we expected more in terms of presentation, flavors, and culinary innovation. Like noticed, the personnel were very polite, professional, and attentive; their friendly and accommodating service added a touch of warmth to the dining experience, and we appreciated their efforts, even when we have to be called them several times to get served. Generally speaking, this restaurant only offers a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff, but also an overpriced plain small portion sizes and lackluster taste of the food that left much to be desired. Considering the high prices, and the beautiful ambiance, clients may expect a more memorable experience than a satisfying culinary time. If you're looking for exceptional food with generous portions, you may want to explore other dining options in the Poblado area. As compared with other local restaurants, Andres Carnes is not extraordinarily different. Basically, the costumer will only pay for the a beautiful fiesta ambience experience, a boring food and just a good customer service. My heart and my stomach wished could've been a better experience and to try it again but my gut says don't be a fool, and don't try again, unless you want to pay for for very good selfies, so this time, it has only three stars, so HIGHLY,...
Read moreAndres is an ever-popular chain in Colombia. The aesthetic & decor here are great, but has so-so food, and the service falls flat.
It has a certain vibe that Colombians like, but for a visitor seeking food & drink, it's only adequate. The downtown Bogota location was similar.
Read on for fun details.
It's a huge restaurant, but the pleasant "terrace" section with street view was closed on a Sunday evening. The main dining room is a bit chaotic and doesn't have enough bar seats and only a few two-tops. They put me at a weird little high table for dinner (not a high-top but like a mini bar-top). It would be an impossible squeeze for 2 for dinner, but fine for a couple just having drinks. If they're not too big.
Service was a mess.
Neither servers nor hostesses offered a menu. But then somebody brought a snack-sized plate of chicharrones which I ravenously devoured. Later, I was told it was brought by mistake and asked could I pay for it? Their mistake AND not like they could re-serve it after leaving it at the table, but fine.
Then somebody came by and tried to give me a tray of 3 mojitos (I must look thirsty!).
Not mine I said. He was confused and insisted on knowing what I had ordered. I said nothing, can I see a menu? All in Spanish of course. THAT made them hunt down a server who speaks English because it must be my confusion lol. Their male waiters were all bad about watching your face when you talk, like servers would in the US, which in the loud restaurant means you need to SHOUT to be heard. Tiresome. I repeated I speak Spanish to the english-speaking guy about 4 times before he paused his rambling "ask for me if you need anything" and responded to that. One female server was better, but she was only one of a half dozen waitstaff I interacted with. Different staff kept coming by, but no offers of water, do you need anything, etc, from most of them.
So later, I order a mojito and a juice, and they bring them in... bowls. Not glasses like I saw earlier. I remember the Bogota store serving juice in bowls, but who serves a mojito (just average btw) in a bowl?? I asked why not in a glass, got a shrug in return.
Dinner: Churrasco is my go-to local cut of meat, but they served a small version much heavier on the gristle than I usually see. You'll get better at any of the nearby food courts. The potatoes were decent (a-la carte).
I had to ask about dessert rather than being offered. It was served with the PLATE dusted with confectionery sugar in a way guaranteed to make mess, never mind everybody coming here is usually dressed for a night out. It was all over the table just from the server setting it down. Hope you didn't wear textured dark clothes on your night out!
I think this place caters to the Colombian group-night-out with a big group, shots, and the sort of interactive entertainment & group activities that are traditionally popular here. It probably makes more sense to Colombians than visitors, the way barcades in the USA are odd to foreign visitors. Similarly, Colombians going out traditionally don't sit at the bar, so there's not as many bar seats at night spots here, although this place could use more single and couple seating (the bar was full).
But most of what they're doing doesn't make sense for a restaurant, and the huge menu says food is not an afterthought.
The entertainment was fine by the way.
I stopped in only because I was staying nearby, and knew they served food late. At least with North American expectations of quality service, it's worth taking a few photos and then going somewhere else for dinner. Poblado is chock full of delicious options these days.
I would not repeat the brand after sampling the...
Read moreOne of the worst service I have ever had in any restaurant. I decided to take mom to celebrate her bday at this restaurant because I knew food and entertainment was going to be good since the one in BOGOTA it was so much fun when I visited.. We didn’t get a good impression since we first got in. Host asked us (outside) if we have reservations which I told her we had, she then told us continue inside for our table, we are standing inside the restaurant and no one comes to take us to our table. I then go back outside to asked who is taking us and they were like ohh we calling some now to take you. Then this guy with zero smile asked for my last name and finally took us to the table. He then asked is anyone bday today?? and I was ehhh I thought it was going to be a surprise but yes I guess it’s my mom’s bday, he then grabbed a wooden item that says birthday something and placed it at the table. We are seating there easy 5-8 mins and no one comes with menu I had to call a lady with a radio and asked her, is someone coming with the menu or ??? She said I will call someone and finally a girl came with it menu, we ordered right away some appetizers and drinks, girl told us she will be back to take the main dish order. 18+ min took them to come back, I had to called not once but twice someone, at this point it was so uncomfortable the whole vibe. Waitress came back and no even an apologize she asked if we were ready to order and I was like WE BEEN ready 10 min ago but anyways we placed the order. I took them another 35 min to bring something so simple, I couldn’t believe how bad this night was going. Then to finish the night, I have call, chat and even in person told them it was my mom bday and even though they sang to everyone else at the restaurant they forgot my mom, if it wasn’t because my husband when to talk to the staff and asked them if the were singing or bringing a cake for my mom they wouldn’t have come. It was a total mess and made my mom bday which it was supposed to be special one of the worst night.. thank you Andres carnes MEDELLIN, you guys literally ruined such a...
