Hostal Pura Vida La 70 — Hotel in Medellín

They charged $24 USD for a shared room with 16 people, which is a huge joke. I only booked it because I was desperate, as it's a busy weekend in Medellín and almost every other hostel was full. It's incredibly noisy in the lobby and the staff have no regard for sleep. First thing in the morning, the housekeepers are coming into the room, slamming the door, talking on their phone, and leaving the door open so all the noise from the lobby comes in. The beds are firm and uncomfortable, and the bunks are so short you can't even sit up straight in bed.

Someone literally drove a motorcycle through the lobby?! Worst night's sleep out of my 2 months in Colombia so far.

When I arrived, the staff couldn't find my booking because I used Hostelworld and they said "we don't really use Hostelworld"... okay, then take your property off the website if you don't use it? I had to wait like half an hour for them to...

I had an incredibe experience and I have to say, that it's mostly due to Genesis, Angelica & Mary. The most welcoming staff. Sure the kitchen is outdated, but the owner is aware of it and is planning for future upgrade. Sure the wifi cuts in and out, and there isn't much ventilation in the room so it does get stuffy inside. However the spacious, clean rooms, affordable rate, close proximity to everything you need...and mostly the experience of the beautiful, patient, accommodating staff and guests who stayed there, who went above and beyond, adding to the overall experience of my stay. The genuine attention and care. This.... This is priceless magic - I'll be back for...

Good location, 5 minutes walk to a metro station so it made getting around the city very easy. There was lots of restaurants and shops near by so getting dinner, breakfast and groceries was very easy. The area felt safe, we walked about at night to get dinner and didn't feel threatened at all. Rooms were an ok size, bathroom was pretty good. Beds were comfortable and a good night sleep was had. There is a little shop in the hostel where you could buy bits and bobs. We had our washing done here, they seemed to have done a good job, everything folded etc. the washing cost 20000 cop for all of it no matter how much we had. I would recommend this hostel as a place...
