El Rancho de Salento — Hotel in Quindío

I will summarize my stay in this hotel with one word: Unforgettable.

This hotel/farm has very nice facilities without losing its coffee farm DNA, the view just takes your breath away.

This region of Colombia is well known for the kindness of its people, and the owners and workers of this site are proud representatives of it, just to give you an example, one night when we came from doing several tours and we were tired and hungry, my wife asked to Carlos (the man in the kitchen) if he could give her some piece of regional cheese that we had previously tasted and she had liked it a lot, the nervous guy answered us: "with great pleasure", he withdrew to the kitchen and after a minute Alberto the owner of the establishment crossed fast the dining room, greeted us and continued on his way, it should be noted that it was raining profusely, approximately 10 minutes later Alberto arrived again with his clothes totally wet and told us: Your cheese has arrived, OMG!!!, it was not something that important, he could have told us that there was no that kind of cheese at that time and the next day he would give us some, but his concept of service forced him to do something that satisfy his guests.

And so it was everything, the horseback riding, the good advice to visit important sites, the restaurants recommendations, the transport, the cleanliness, the honesty (there was not a single hidden charge, what we agreed in the reservation was what we paid).

The only recommendation I can make is to bring an umbrella because the tours and especially the walks are sometimes long and it can make intermittent rain, additionally a backpack to store the jacket because when it does not rain it gets a little warm.

This trip is in a good balance between comfort, ecology, good rest and good food.

This has been my favorite Finca Hotel in the area as a matter of fact this was my third and perhaps last stay, previously it was an idyllic place: quiet, nice, clean and you just to hear only the sounds of nature. However it completely changed I was there with my wife for a St. Valentines retreat, and guess what the magic was gone, it is becoming a little old our room was a little disorganized and the worst part since the owners also own the complete hacienda up to the road, now they are renting pretty much everything for Festivals, Bazars and Conventions and even though the actual hotel is farther in, you can still hear all the noises generate by such Festivals furthermore to make things worst, there were a whole bunch of drunk people in some of the hotel rooms, screaming, cursing throwing things and making a lot of noise all night long up to 7:00 AM and unfortunately no one did anything, the administration or owners were no concerned at all with the situation, all they said was that in due time they will talk with the people causing such commotion, but did not even bother to stop all the nonsense, as a result we were forced to cancel a special trip to la Vieja River because we could not sleep at all the night before. So yes we do not recommend at all this...

Other TA reviews giving this Hacienda 4-5 stars must be kids whom are used to youth hostels. I travel 180+ days per year and this is the real assessment.||This Hacienda is located out of town and offers no dinner service so you are stuck unless you order in and have delivery.||The rooms have no windows and wood doors with zero sound privacy. If you happen to get a room like we did near the main area, you get to listen to the staff all night making noise and there is zero (I mean ZERO) sound proofing. Rooms have no heat and no A/C so I hope you like to sweat all night. ||There was no hot water in the showers, and the sink does not even offer the opportunity to get hot water so good luck shaving. ||The bed is tiny (maybe double???) so for a couple like us near impossible to sleep (beyond the loud noise all night.) Bed is also hard like a futon so have fun sleeping on slats.||Breakfast was terrible...I ordered scrambled eggs and sausage and sausage it hot dogs...||Cannot at all...
